I mean I kinda want to, but it would feel like repeating myself.

Unless you want to do it :P, this might be the last chance before a long break from MAL...

Thanks. Man, this show is great, and I'm glad we can agree as to why.

Here's my review of Re:Creators
animeiscool561 Sep 15, 2:36 PM
There's a part of me that wants to rewatch but I feel like I already know the show from top to bottom in the over two years since I watched it and I otherwise have Abridged to do it for me. It's borderline middle of the road stuff for me. It definitely could've been much better, but I like some things out of what we got. Didn't help that I saw it in between half of Hunter x Hunter 2011 and Gurren Lagann which are still in my favorites list. So I was kind of on a good anime high, with the only things I'd heard about SAO being School Days comparisons it let me in with a mind open enough to like what I saw. The LN probably is better for having internal thoughts and such but I liked seeing things animated.

There's a part of me who thinks that GGO was harder to get through for being more boring, less investing action, and having things that were even harder to swallow (Sinon was cool tho). But ALFheim could've been a lot better as well. However, I will give Kawahara credit for not putting Asuna in damsel mode, as not only did she try to remain defiant and even not scream when Sugou did things to her, but also she managed to play dumb, escape her cell, and even though that failed she got a Keycard for which Kirito could never have saved her without. So she played a part in her own rescue. Suguha I least give credit for not being possesive and clingy, not wanting to love her cousin but being unwittingly forced into such, and even having some character development at the end and a sweet scene where she says "Go to her" to Kirito.

I'd recommend the Progressive novels.
Not only are there only 4 of them but yeah, they fix issues of the original Aincrad arc by not timeskipping around, so you actually get to see Kirito and Asuna together for longer at the start so the bond is put in with all the plot progression, see more followthrough on the whole beta tester aspect, and in general get more of the actual SAO game with more elaboration on game mechanics, weapon changing, builds, the clearing guilds, boss fights at the ends of floors, quest missions, etc. Basically what I expected the show to be from the first two episodes.

Alright then. Looking forward to all that.

Same here. I especially loved seeing what happens when a creator sees his creation die, or the epic moment with Suruga and Blitz in episodes 17 and 18, and knowing that some of them grow like a parent/child relationship. I really need to see Black Lagpon. I'm a bit of an aspiring writer myself.

Rewatching SAO I see. I can't ever rewatch it.

Say, I noticed you were watching SAO on a rewatch. How goes it?
I have a....sort of attachment to the series that prevents me from really hating it, even if I know it's definitely flawed in some areas, the actual presentation as well as the Kirisuna romance kept me engaged. Enough to power through ALFheim in like a day or two, even kinda felt for Suguha. Would hardly call it great but think the whole "worst modern anime ever made" or "Twilight for boys" thing is a massive overexaggeration made by its haters. Along with the yelling and screaming often associated

Part of that is also because I started the SAO Progressive light novels soon after finishing, which while tying into the story I also think were much more of what I expected from the show. Episode 2 is a very abridged version of the first part of Book 1.
Without timeskips, it can show how Kirito and Asuna's relationship builds together more gradually without stopping the plot in the process. It gives more to the exploration of the game world, mechanics, adds more characters like Argo (who gets a minute max in the anime), explaining more on how they're ahead of the game compared to other players when they are and even justifying a few non-context moments in the anime (remember when Kirito punched Kuradeel through the chest? They explain that skill). Kirito being a beta tester also has MUCH more plot relevance. At this point they've covered the first 5 floors, but I like them a lot
CodeBlazeFate Sep 15, 11:02 AM
That's unfortunate. I actually much prefer SAO II for not falling into nearly as many of the worst pitfalls of season 1 and doing a few really great things in its own right.

Re:Creators is genuinely amazing, and the crux of it happens to be the "creations" themselves more than anything else for a variety of reasons that makes this show so much more epic and interesting then it probably could've been given the direction it went in terms of dialogue amount.
