Katanagatari Review (No Spoilers)
Nishio Ishin Light Novels are considered impossible to adapt, since his light novels run a mockery of the readers with his cheeky wordplay and the level of depth he gives to the world and to the people is unfathomable, but the anime adaptation of Katanagatari is one of the few proper adaptations of Nisio's works, being on the coveted list of top tier anime adaptations like the Monogatari series.
Plot
The show takes place during Ancient Japan, where the Shogunate's self proclaimed 'Strategist' Togame searches for the Kyoutouryuu, the No Sword style's present head, Shichika Yasuri, who has been exiled to a remote island
...
because of his father committing treason. Togame's goal was to collect the master swordsmith, Kiki Shikizaki's 12 legendary swords, called the 'Deviant Blades' which were scattered all around Japan. Togame and Shichika proceeds on a journey which would change their lives forever.
The plot of this anime is Nisio Ishin level, which means beyond top tier. Simple premise, but with plenty of plot twists, heart touching moments and plenty of moments to laugh, plenty of moments to feel bad, and a plenty of moments to cry, Katanagatari's plot was truly a roller coaster ride at its finest. Fast paced and long conversation, monologues, and dialogues, which are a staple of Nisio's works, are very prominent here as well.
Characters
This show introduces a new character every episode, and all the characters are unique in their own way. Each one have their perks, their motives and their goals. But the most noticable character had to be the protagonist himself, Shichika, a man who went from being a sword who lacked a resolve and fought whenever his 'owner' said so to a human who felt remorse, happiness, and love.
Togame's character also has to be one of the best in the anime. Her charming and cunning personality making this duo very co-dependant. Shichika being the brawns and Togame being the brains. Sasuga strategist chan. Katanagatari's most biggest feature is the level of depth every character is given and how lovable every character is. The owners of the Deviant Blades aren't truly evil, but very human. They want to fulfill their wishes, their goals and their dreams and the blades becomes the catalyst for them to achieve it. But everytime one of them is killed/defeated, you feel hurt, you feel pain (if you have a soul that is), and there are no characters that'll make you hate.
Animation
There isn't much to talk about the animation. Simple use of animation at fast pace, making the fights quite short as it should be, mocking overexaggerated long, over the top fights. The fluid and fast paces movement of the characters during the fight goes well with the dynamic non existent camera angles, helping the fights being thrilling and exciting.
Art Work
The art work in Katanagatari is unique and pretty to look at. A blend of Ancient Japanese Sculpture art and modern anime character designs, Katanagatari's minimalistic yet complex artwork, which stays true to the premise/time period of the show, complements the fast paced yet short fights of the anime. The character designs, with the minor details, showing the biggest characterists of that certain character, for example, Kiguchi, one of the owners of the Deviant Blade, who has a shogi shaped like figure in her eyes and a blade like hair, showing us what she devotes her life on, both shogi and a life with swords. Many characters follow this example, making each of them colourful, unique and attaractive.
Soundtrack
The anime blends in plenty of modern music during the fights and blends in traditional Japanese music in between to stay true to its premise. The music really complements what happens on screen, completing a perfect audio-visual pairing. The ops, however, the first one being a bop, the second one aint a favourite. The ed's of the anime changes every ep, complementing the tone of how every ep ends. But the OST might be one of the best I've heard in anime.
Verdict
Katanagatari is an underrated masterpiece. A diamond in the rough road of Light Novel adaptations. I must say, this show truly does deliver. Each episode is based on a certain topic and each episodes delivers to its fullest potential, keeping you on edge and the last 2 eps being the best of the anime. If you have nothing to watch, watch Katanagatari, it is truly a ride you shouldn't miss.

(Note: This is my first time writing a review, so go easy on me please.)
To be frank, I went into this anime with very low expectations, seeing some of the reviews are 10/10 and some of them are 1/10, I decided to watch this 8 episode anime and see what it was about, and to my surprise, it wasn't as bad as I thought.
Plot
The premise of the anime is pretty unique. The main cast of girls goes through shit irl, while their other selves in another world, the embodiment of their thoughts, fight and when their other version dies, their main cause of that anxiety
...
vanishes. Interesting premise and unique concept, but when you only have 8 eps to work with, you can't but rush a bit, and that was the biggest issue of this anime. They rushed it hard and in turn messed the whole thing up. Plenty of plot holes and rushed character development killed the anime.
Animation
Even though the rushed they fuck out of this anime, the other world fights were made using CGI, and this might be one of the best. CGI action anime I have watched. Using the smoothness CGI provides to the fullest advantage, it delivered some fast-paced, epic fights. I really do wish they fights were a bit longer, some of the fights felt a bit short. But, considering the fact that most anime tend to kill themselves with their awful use of CGI, this anime showed me a ray of light that if CGI is used properly, it can deliver more and more amazing fights like what this anime had.
Characters
The characters, well, uhhh.... were meh. For real though, they had to potential to be a really good cast of characters, but rushed development made me confused as fuck. The way they shove scenarios into every character, made it seem like a joke to be seen seriously. They undergo too much too fast. And that is the major issue with the characters.
OST
OST wise its got a solid one. Its OP and ED were actually pretty good, seeing vocaloid being used in an anime op for the first time, I was really happy. The soundtracks during the fights weren't very memorable but it was very good nonetheless.
Art Work
The character designs for the other world characters were so fucking cool, it really looked badass and rad. Their irl versions reminded me of characters from Madoka Magica. Also, the other world for each character looked really unique and amazing as well. I wish they'd have taken the time and explore the other world more, but sadly that didn't happen.
Verdict
This anime had potential to be at least Madoka Magica level stuff, the interesting premise and the unique concept was killed by rushed development and plot holes. But the amazing and proper use of CGI, banging OST and really good character designs makes me not to put it in the trash can. Its fine, neither a masterpiece nor trash.

So I finally finished Bungou Stray Dogs Season 1, 2, and 3, and the one thing I still think about is how this series became so underrated.
Plot-wise Bungou Stray Dogs is still on point. It puts you on the edge of your seat, making you anticipate and be excited about what's gonna happen in the next episode. This level of excitement has been kept up throughout this whole season, which is a big deal when it comes to short animes.
Art wise too Bungou Stray Dogs was consistent. Even though this anime is not fight-focused, the fights in the anime are very well done and the
...
amount of hype is surreal.
Soundtrack wise it didn't stand out too much for me, cuz I was focused on the dialogues by the characters. But the opening by Granrodeo this season hasn't let down. But my favourite had to be the ending song 'Lily' by Luck Life, showing the phases that all the characters have traversed through and showing us the growth in not only the main characters but also on the side characters, like Akutagawa, who had made a significant growth when compared to the season.
Talking about the characters, Fyodor had to be one of the most troublesome antagonist in the series. His wits and his powers really became troublesome to deal for both Port Mafia and the Armed Detective Agency. He really became a stand out antagonist and yes a character truly to be hated. Of course, none of the characters are literally hate able and no one can pick sides, except for Fyodor.
Well this anime, particularly this season, stood out as the best for me and one of my favourite animes ever. It's easily a 10 for me. This anime has the right balance of comedy and seriousness. It's enjoyable and fun to watch.
