Most awaited anime for the long-time fan of the manga like me. I'd say Horimiya is one of the most realistic romance anime that I've watched/read. It doesn't have any unnecessary drama, like MCs having a shady past that hinders their relationship kind of cliche blah blah, that kind of pattern is getting old and Horimiya was more casual and realistic just like how a real relationship would develop. It actually feels like it's a iyashikei to me considering how fluffy the series is which makes it incomparable to most popular romcom animes out there. Just pure good vibes.
To be honest, there isn't really
...
much a plot to this series. It all just started among two high schoolers who came across each other sharing a secret that they don't really show at school. What enjoyable about it is because its literally rainbows and cupcakes, it won't give you lengthy romance development. Everything came off natural and not-so-extravagant/dramatic way of being a couple. I love most about it is how healthy hori and miyamura's relationship is and how they are as a couple around their family, friends and at school. Unlike a typical romance anime, where the portrayal was so fairytale-like, Horimiya was on a natural tone. There are lots of butterflies in your stomach moments, and I swear I keep pausing every time because I'm squealing inside on how cute they are. Aside from romantic relationship, bromance is prominent, ofc!
The only thing that I was off about the anime is that it come off as a drama. Even though I really liked the OP/ED, it gives you a heavy impression to it, not like how I would when I was reading it. I was expecting a quirky opening considering how goofy the characters are. There are dead are sometimes, wishing some scenes has bgm or something. It kinda ruins the delivery of dialogue I can't help but think that "this is better when I read it than how it is I swear". I was also devastated due to a lot of parts cut off that I really love in the manga which made the anime appear fast-paced. It was understandable considering they had to squeeze everything into 13 episodes, but the audience could've enjoyed more. Despite that, VAs are perfect and the anime is still undeniably enjoyable.
The animation was very fluid, Cloverworks really did a fantastic job here. The color of their eyes pop and character design was really showcased. Overall, I still enjoyed the anime very much. I get giddy every time new episode came out, characters really have huge appeal to them (especially Miyamura) and how they didn't romanticized everything so much. They made it seem soooo natural. If you're someone who's looking for feel good wholesome, healthy relationship here you go read/watch Horimiya!
Again, Miyamura is husbando <3
