Are you familiar with movies such as Home Alone and E.T? Well, this is the anime version of it. In broader terms, this movie looked like it was made for kids, catering for the whole family. Let me explain why.
First, the plot structure is suspiciously similar to western movies targeted for children (This doesn't count as a spoiler, by the way. I'm just explaining how the plot structure works): Parent gets in trouble, kid discovers a treasure-worthy possession, travels the country, beat the bad guys via deus ex machina, saves parent and returns the possession, and they all live happily ever after. Heck, this structure
...
doesn't fit anime at all. It seems more fit for a live-action. But you may argue that it's set in a fantasy world, so it's more appropriate for animation. Yes, it would've been... if it weren't following a predictable structure that almost every kid has seen in every movie.
Next, we have the characters. Same thing. MC's your typical girl who's left in the dark until she discovers a valuable item and plays around with it, dad's secretly an important person, bad guys are klutz and greedy idiots, and side characters only show up for like a minute or so. Literally every character had a flat personality and there wasn't enough time for them to develop.
And don't even get me started with the soundtrack. I cannot emphasize how Hollywood-ish it is. I mean, the ending song sounds like it was written by a guy who recently watched Sharkboy and Lavagirl and was inspired to make music for the sake of mimicking western film melodies.
The only redeeming factor was the art style, which was not as good, but at least it still reminded me that I was watching an anime movie.
I'm sorry if I keep comparing it to western children's movies. There's just so much similarities that I just couldn't turn a blind eye on it. Did I enjoy it? Yes, but only because it reminded me of the good ol' times. Do I recommend it? For newcomers, maybe. But if you're looking for an unforgettable anime, then you might wanna reconsider.

I can describe this movie in 2 words: Almost perfect. Why? Because while it had the potential to be great, it had small mishaps that led to its inability to reach perfection.
Before I begin, let me just say that I watched this in the cinemas 3 weeks after its premiere at United Cinemas. And inside the theater, there were only 3 people. And so I began to wonder, "Is the movie not good after all?". My opinion then changed after the movie ended.
So what made it almost perfect? Was it the plot? As far as I can tell, there was nothing wrong with the sequence
...
of the plot. It's a slice of life romance with a hint of magic. It's a style we're all familiar with, and so it wasn't difficult to follow.
Was it the characters? I don't believe so. The characters were appealing and memorable. Heck, they almost resemble real people. Even the voice acting was so natural that it didn't sound like it was scripted. Perhaps it's because it was based on a live-action drama.
Was it the music? Absolutely not. The BGM and soundtracks were amazing. Without the music, it wouldn't have the dramatic atmosphere during each scene. Also, that ending theme was so good that I ended up listening to it when I got home.
So what was the flaw? The animation. Don't get me wrong. The settings were ridiculously well-made, almost resembling real life locations. The signature Shaft "head turns" were apparent, so you know it didn't come from a panel manga. But what really destroyed my experience was the sudden 2d to 3d transition. I understand that 3d makes everything easier, but they would've at least used it at the appropriate scenes. There was no reason to use 3d for a bike scene or walking scene. Also, the out-of-place exaggerated reactions. I know it's common for anime to add in exaggerated expressions, but the movie didn't need to include it because it was already perfect without it.
So yes, as much as I want to give it a perfect score, these mistakes blew it for me. But in the end, I did enjoy watching the movie. And even if people think the whole movie is flat or round, I'm still glad that I saw a spectacular display: a display of fireworks.

Cockblock! That's the first thing you'll shout when you find out this is too explicit for an anime. Whose idea was it to pitch this series as an anime short instead of a hentai? There's absolutely nothing wrong with pitching it as a hentai. There are quite a few long-running H series that got hentai adaptations and they weren't as bad as this one. And this is coming from a guy who's read dozens of them!
The story was mediocre at best, if rated as a hentai. I've seen better animation from hentai series. The ending theme did not match the entire show. Characters were tropes
...
from your typical hentai series (specifically shoujo-esque). I could go on all day about how bad these elements mixed, but I'll just focus on what made this series a failure:
They made an anime version of it. This was a stupid move from the get-go. Presenting a series that's supposed to be a hentai was toned down for younger audiences. But there's no point in doing that because the story was meant for adult audiences. And the way they toned it down was by adding random skits in between in order to censor the H scenes that were happening at the moment. Thankfully, I watched the uncensored version, but it still wasn't redeemable.
Now, I'm not saying that making a hentai out of an anime is a bad thing. It's been done before. But this series pitched itself as an anime before pitching it as a hentai. That is, by far, the dumbest move anyone from the anime industry has ever done.
Don't waste your time on this. You won't understand the story anyway and it'll just cockblock you the whole time.

War reaps benefit to no one. It does not prove who's right, only who's left. And i understood these sayings even more when I watched this film. Barefoot Gen was an eye-opener, especially to the young generation who had never experienced war.
Now, I understand that this is a very old film (as proven by the art on the cover), but if you look past that, you'll see that the story, characters and emotions emitted by each of them are timeless and undying. Not only did it serve as the message that war brings hell on earth, but also showed the reality of history: that
...
these events did happen and that people suffered greatly.
But underneath that darkness and despair laid a small ray of hope: that being Gen himself. He emitted so much hope despite living in a relentless environment. When everyone else gave up on life, he was one of those who didn't.
Also, I liked how it did not delve deep into the enemies of the country during that time. It focused solely on the chaos which war brought to the inhabitants, not exactly hatred against the opposing force.
Now I live in Isahaya, a city not too far from Nagasaki. And every time I visit Nagasaki, I cannot believe that it was once the land where an atomic bomb was dropped. It was amazing to see a land once in devastation turn into a city full of hope.
And so I ask: please do not turn your back on this film simply because of the art style. This is a film rooted in history: something you need to watch. Walking barefoot and standing headstrong despite so much tragedy: that's what makes Barefoot Gen so amazing.

This is the epitome of cheezy anime. I'm not kidding. It's so friggin' cheezy that I considered dropping it. But I still finished it because during its time, this was perhaps a new thing.
before I begin, let me just reveal that the title "Lamune" would not make sense in the earlier episodes nor should it have been considered the title because it hardly had anything to do with Lamune.
For the plot, like I said, it was cheezy. It was your typical slice of life romance set in a rural area. Other than that, it didn't have much to offer. It's pretty much like watching
...
a biography of two lovers. It didn't stand out much.
Speaking of not standing out, let's talk about the characters. While I liked the personality of the main character, his appearance did not match it at all. It would have been fine if he had spiky hair to go along with his trickster personality. But no, they just had to make him look like your typical light novel protagonist.
And the worst out of all of them: the art. You can literally find better animation in a hentai. Now I'm not saying the animation wasn't good, but even during 2005, there were series that had better art style. Maybe they didn't have the budget, but the truth still stands.
Negative criticism aside, I suppose it did well with the BGM. It truly felt like I was in a provincial setting. Even the setting itself was well made. If there's one good thing about this series, it's the accurate representation of rural life.
Did I enjoy it? Not really. But if you're a hardcore slice of life fan, then you might. But I'm just gonna throw this out: nothing is exaggerated in this anime.

It's not everyday I get to review a mature manga, only when it's really good. And, I gotta say, this was a crazy ride.
At first glance, it may seem like another NTR hentai. The thing is: it's not. While it did present the wife sleeping with other guys, it was with the consent of the husband. From that alone, you might think it's another hentai. But what made it unique was the concept of "what happened afterwards?".
I've played a lot of eroge, and it usually leaves the story with the wife getting gangb**ged or ending up with the paramour. This manga followed none
...
of that. While the latter did occur somewhere in the middle of the manga, it didn't stay for long.
And the one thing that really made it unique was its use of drama. The reason I didn't tag this as hentai is because sex was not the only thing it offered. Heck, some chapters don't even have it. The reason why people think it's hentai is because of the concept of NTR. Fun fact: that tag isn't always used in hentai. It's used a lot in TV dramas as well. And this series captured the essence of drama in NTR.
As this is a mature manga, I don't really recommend this to young readers. But I do recommend it to adults just to show how fetishes can break two lover's relationship.

What's your zodiac sign? This is basically what this show tackles. Etotama portrayed Chinese zodiacs as anthropomorphised beings and did it without losing the essence of their origin. If that weren't enough, it even included historical background to make it seem like it actually did happen.
The story was pretty funny the first few episodes, the everything gets serious on the following ones. Despite that, the show still retained its humor of breaking the fourth wall and, yes, slapstick humor. And very few shows can provide dramatic scenes while remaining a comedy.
Characters pretty much the personality of their corresponding signs. If you read the traits of
...
each sign and observed the characters, you'll see it's not that different. Of course, Nya-tan is an exception, but she still personified a cat nonetheless.
One thing I really liked was the mix of 2d and 3d graphics. Truth be told, I would've been fine with it just being 2d, but 3d made it all the more interesting. The mix of both dimensions provided me a chance to watch the show at a different perspective. It's not everyday you get to see one show in 2d and 3d.
The tracks had a cute vibe which fit the show. That's all I can say about it.
Overall, this show was quite different from all the other. Actually, when I first picked it up, I thought it was gonna be another harem. Boy, I was wrong! If you like to watch a show that mixes comedy and drama (albiet cheezy), the I recommend this show to you. And perhaps you'll know why we need zodiacs in our lives...

This series made me realize just how many harem series I've watched, to the point of knowing what the series was gonna end in just a few episodes. But for some reason, I enjoyed it a lot.
This was perhaps because of its concept of "having the ability to see the future" without anything relating to time travel. Also, its idea of becoming a being who can change the fate of a person to create a better world is not something anyone can come up of on the fly. I swear, this series had potential... if only it didn't become a harem series.
The reason why I
...
think harem broke my interest for this series is because it didn't even need to have a harem tag in the first place. It would've been fine as simply "a boy who had the ability to change the fate of humans". But no, they just had to add that tag. Personally, it would've done well even without the harem tag. There was already romance, so bringing in other girls to the story just makes it a nuisance.
I gotta say though, the animation and art style was really smooth. It wasn't so rough or full of highlights or shades. Because of that, the show maintained a light atmosphere.
Overall, it wasn't a bad series. I'm just pissed off that they placed a tag that shouldn't have to be there in the first place. Doesn't matter if you like or hate harems though, because when you watch it, you'll just want to become a shepherd.

An adventure series that's not set in a fantasy world: This is basically Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin in a nutshell. It's pretty common for adventure series to have fight scenes and treasure hunting, but this was perhaps the only series I knew that executed it in a semi-utopian setting.
The story didn't really peek my interest during the first episodes, but the ones that came after surely did. And I swear, this could probably the series that inspired Re:Zero. But it's not just the plot which they resembled. There was also the cast. The Yama literally resembled Subaru in more ways than one. Even the other
...
characters in Re:Zero looked like they were other versions of RyuNana. Dunno if this is really the case, but that's how I see it, at least.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. I'm glad this show presented a new perspective in the adventure genre. And I totally recommend it to those looking for a little mystery and action in their list. Let the treasure hunt begin!

A shoujo series making fun of shoujo series: This is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun in a nutshell. The way it presented satire is hilarious upon realizing it makes fun of itself and its origin.
Truth be told, the story didn't get any impact on me. For one, I'm not into shoujo anime much, so I'm not sure how the plot usually goes. In fact, every scene resembled 4koma style of narration. If you're familiar with seitokai yakuindomo, you'll know when and where the jokes would come in. Still, kudos for the creators for making me laugh out loud.
At first, when I saw the characters, I thought, "it's
...
gonna be another girl loves boy" situation. But as this was a satire, it totally proved me wrong. Each character were representations of your usual shoujo casts, but they also had their own sets of personalities to make them unique among these typical casts.
But the one thing that reeled me in to this show was the soundtrack. It was simple but effective. It used the same melody but used different interpretations according to the mood of the scene.
In short, this anime was so good, I'd love it if it had a second season. If you liked seitokai yakuindomo, you should definitely give this a try. Who knows? You mght even end up making a shoujo manga yourself after you're done.
