I would still argue against the romantic turnaround, because Adagaki Aki is presented as unlikable from the beginning. When it's revealed that she actually liked Makabe in the past, it felt really abrupt, like the story just suddenly changed its mind, and I couldn't get behind that because a romance is only as good as its characters. I wasn't interested in seeing the two get together at any point.
A better example of this is in Shokugeki, where Erina is presented as an unlikable villain in the beginning, but she slowly becomes more vulnerable as the series goes on, to the point where she's now an implied love interest. And all the flaws in her personality have some really deeply-rooted issues. Adagaki Aki didn't have that depth to me, her character seemed more random with a huge abrupt change in the middle.
I'll admit that a lot of it was predicated on false information. When the anime started, I checked the manga page on MAL and it had a supposed finish date listed in the future. I don't know where it came from, but I was operating under the assumption that the manga would end along with the anime (or maybe just take longer--it's not out of the question for an anime to go further than the manga). Either way, I'd still assume the anime would have a clear end with its concept--it didn't need to be longer than twelve episodes.
Also, if it wasn't really about revenge, then it's a misleading and bad title.
