Just letting you know I finished our contract. I added the OVAs to the mix since it's only two extra episodes. I'll tag you on my writeup in reddit, so feel free to read it when you're done.
Just passing by to tell you I'll be starting our Sora no Woto contract tonight. I've had some busy couple of weeks but will try to finish it before the next thread.
I get what you mean! I don't think I'll ever be able to do a 3x3 of Gintama characters because I feel guilty on who I left out.
> ranking
It's always rare to see someone other than Gintoki as their #1. Hijikata is really great and his + Gintoki's episodes are some of my favorites in the entire series (like robbery episode in 2015). Having Kagura as your best girl shows that your taste is still great! And I don't think I can do a top 5 haha. My top 3 are Gintoki > Kagura > Shinpachi (I rarely see Shinpachi in anyone's list!)
> comedy arcs
I constantly change my top favorite comedy arcs other than my no.1. I'll give this a try: Popularity arc + Scandal arc > Host Club arc > Love Chrioss arc > Afro arc > Prison arc. I can never choose between Popularity arc and Scandal arc.
> serious arcs
It's rarely to see FS so low o.o . Can I ask why, especially since Hijikata is pretty much a main character in thr arc? My top 5 are: FS > SA > Rakuyou > Courtesan of a Nation > 4 Devas (Beam Sword arc is amazing as well).
> Karamatsu best guy
And it's surprising how unpopular the show is at r/anime since it extremely popular in Japan, tumblr and apparently /a/. I'd love to host a rewatch for it but I don't think episodic comedies do well compared to a seriois, plot-related anime.
> Natsume
So glad you're liking it! Natsume is also my favorite Hiroshi Kamiya role. And take your time with it, I think it's an anime that is best watched going to bed or something. The later seasons are my favorites so I can't wait to hear your thoughts.
It's great that you enjoyed Osomatsu-san! My 3rd favorite comedy and #9 favorite anime ever!
> I had to watch Gintama to catch up for the new season but it was totally worth it!
I just checked your MAL and I'm delighted to see Gintama as your #3 favorite anime (and we both have the same favorite season!) What are your top 5 characters, top 5 comedy arcs & top 5 serious arcs? It'll be interesting to see what we have in common!
> spoiler
I love all those episodes.
It was so funny to see Ichimatsu becoming a Karamatsu girl since from the start he 'disliked' Kara. And episode 24 was extremely heartbreaking especially the scene where Osomatsu hit Jyushimatsu and then Karamatsu (best guy) punched Osomatsu for hurting their younger brother. A lot of people wanted the final episode to continue with the sadness but the absurd comedy was back and I loved it! The sad episodes are fantastic but the comedy episodes are 11/10 imo.
I think a second season will happen once Miyu Irino (Totty's VA) comes back from studying aboard. Not to mention the director + scriptwriter are currently busy with the 2-cour show Classicaloids.
> I love your MAL page btw, it looks so pretty!
Thanks <3 I couldn't decide between blue and purple but in the end I went with purple.
And I see you're watching Natsume Yuujinchou! I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
9/10 though? Great! Get hyped! SA & FS might definitely bump it up! I couldn't help myself and rewatched a few parts yesterday.
My only complaint about SA is ep 306, where they ran into some budget problems. Animation took a hit. BD's are out in a week or so, so perhaps they fixed it? FS wise, it's practically perfect but it could cause some controversy considering the main villain. The villain is not liked by many people. However, i've prepared a small writeup and stuff, you could say, to convince new watchers and old alike why the villain is good, relevant, and stuff.
Story wise though, everything makes perfect sense and there are no problems!
Glad to see someone else watching this series :) It's my favorite SOL ever and Natsume is one of my favorite protagonists. What do you think of it so far?
As previously stated, i'll be holding it at 20:00 / 8PM CET (+1 GMT)((7PM GMT)) the first and second of January, 2017
We'll be binge watching SA & FS, SA on the first and FS on the second. The watch will be held in a discord channel, and here is the invitation! The chatting and things will be done through the live chat.
I'm thinking we could sync our videos, and for this to be as good as possible, i'd rec you download ep 300-316 from horriblesubs or similar. You don't have to, but it would be appreciated. SA & FS, meaning episode 300-316 are ep 35-51 in 2015.
Other than that, arriving 10-ish mins before the actual time would be highly appreciated, becuase we will start at that exact time.
Do notify me if you can't make it! So for conclusion, I wish you all happy holidays in advance and I hope you can make it! If my math is right, we should have 7-10 people, at least three being new watchers! Thusly, please do not spoil if you have seen SA & FS previosuly, or know anything around it. Manga spoilers are also to be kept away.
Fuck yes, that's how I reacted when I first finished Courtesan of a Nation too. Still one of my favorite arcs in anime to this day.
It does such a good job of including so many characters and it's a really good insight into Gin's backstory and his relationship with Oboro (which you'll get some more of in 2015 and 2017).
The Oboro fights are downright incredible though. That gif you linked is probably my favorite scene in anime that's less than 30 seconds, it's just so damn cool.
And if you like Takasugi this much right now... bruh, just wait for 2015.
The last two serious arcs of 2015 are just on an unprecedented level compared to Courtesan of a Nation for me. The feels are so strong but they're so damn good all the way throughout, there's some absolutely incredible scenes in there. Seriously looking forward to your guys' reactions after them!
That's so awesome to hear, I love seeing people greatly enjoying my all-time favorite :D
I already told this to 77 too, but watching you guys among others going through and enjoying the series really makes me feel like a proud parent watching their kids grow up.
Hope you enjoy Enchousen as well! The serious arc from Enchousen I personally enjoyed more than Four Devas, but they're both fantastic. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it :)

Nawh, minor spoiler. The fight is amazing though! It's relatively short, but got some good production value.
This is the OST that plays during the fight!
Dat drop. Note: Beware of youtube spoilers.
