As for my favorite Anime list, I've decided to only include the first season of any shows I deemed my favorite, or else my favorites list would be way too cluttered and filled up :(
--- Thoughts on my favorite anime ---
Monogatari Series:
Ah, where to even begin? The first time I watched Bakemonogatari I found myself asking myself constantly, "What the fuck?"; The Monogatari series is unlike any other anime I've ever watched, and it's easy to see why: With Nisioisin's masterful dialogue and clever puns scattered within his words, as well as simplistic yet intriguing scenery by shaft, I was easily enthralled by the distinct universe that Nisioisin had created upon my rewatch. Initially, I believed the characters were written to simply seem "deep" for no other reason, like how many dark manga kill off characters for the sake of being "edgy." I couldn't be more wrong. Every character has incentive and a colorful background to support who they are. Each character is fully fleshed out, and when they interact with each other, it makes for amazing dialogue and a breathtaking tale. Each scene and conversation is thought-provoking, although some of this meaning can come off as very subtle.* It's not often that I am able to enjoy a series that reaches to me emotionally and intellectually down to the very core.
*While on this topic of meaning, I'm sure you've heard of many people dismissing Monogatari as a show just full of fan service. I completely disagree with this opinion. Fan service, by definition, is material added to a work of fiction specifically designed to please the audience. Now from an outsider's view, Monogatari may seem to have "fan service," but unlike other shows, each of these scenes have meaning to the story. Whether it be signifying a character's motives (Goddammit Sengoku) or highlighting the strength of a relationship, I argue there is no scene in Monogatari that is randomly thrown in just for eye candy.
