Hi Kevin! Hang on, lemme add u :p :D

Sorry for the late response, I was at Fanime all weekend. It's basically the largest anime convention around here.

Well, I can pass basically everything that's moderately readable on Stepmania. I do have to seriously BS those 375+ BPM streams near the beginning and the end, since I play on x3, and it's completely impossible to read anything scrolling at 1000+ BPM. :P

In any case, DDR at anime conventions is awesome. Crowds just come. :P Though I would have liked Fanime to have a newer version of DDR, not just EXTREME and SUPERNOVA.

Hey there, haven't chatted with you a while. How have you been lately? I just looked through a few of your new videos, and I found a few of them piqued my interest.

Congratz on...almost passing Valkyrie Dimension! That's pretty amazing. Though to be honest, I'm more amazed that you could even read Valkyrie Dimension on 1x speed. Usually, when I play on Stepmania, I use 3x. :P Personally, I actually enjoy playing the expert chart quite a bit, largely because there are almost no crossovers until the very end stream (the challenge chart is just stupid...).

Oh, and POSSESSION too! I find that chart pretty fun. Unfortunately, machines around here don't carry X2 songs. But next week is Fanime; hopefully someone brings an X2 machine so that I can finally play some of those songs I like.

I also found your Afronova play pretty amusing ( You must really like doing crossovers or something; I could never go sideways for so long and not get myself confused. It kinda reminds me of this Healing Vision play here: You should really go check it out; it's pretty amusing. Of course, your movements are so much more elegant than those huge movements in that video. xD

Haha, no. Hardly anybody in our area cares about DDR/ITG in the slightest around. From what I can tell, there are hardly any people who even play (there are around 5-6 people on the leaderboard for scores, and even those scores suck). Occasionally, some kid seems interested, but the ITG2 machine is so far in the corner that hardly anyone can see it anyways. I think at best, the only people who know me are the people who actually come to the machine to play competitively. They know me as "MYNX" (not in person obviously), the annoying person who keeps overwriting their high scores.

I just played singles on my soft mats for the first time in a while, and it just feels so much easier than doubles to score. On most songs, I seem to score in the 920 to 960 region in doubles (CS, SN2), while I can easily get 980+ on most songs in singles.

By the way, where do you get all your simfiles for Stepmania? I can't find any songs like Possession, Valkyrie Dimension, Anti-Matte...etc for Stepmania 5 here:

Hmm, that seems like a pretty good idea. I probably should get some more practice on that. Whenever I do up crossovers, I always either miss (by not rotating far enough, and having my foot step somewhere in the middle) or completely lose my balance and screw myself over. It seems you're pretty good at just using your heel in up-crossovers, which I just don't quite get at the moment. Actually, a pretty important reason why I can't do up crossovers is because I never needed to. Since my mat is absolute shit, I always end up getting a "pad-almost" whenever I bs a down crossover, so I got around to doing down crossovers... xD

I've started playing doubles lately (around a month ago or so), and it's been pretty fun so far. The only problem is that I have two of those shitty soft-pads (like the $10 ones), which move around ridiculously. And the ITG2 machine near my house has its 1P side really screwed up. I can easily pass most songs on doubles rated around 12, but due to the nature of my pads (they slide around like hell even if I put weights on them) I really can't pass much of anything past that (for some reason I can almost pass MAX300 though...). Of course, the fact I suck at crossovers doesn't help much either. xD

From what I can tell from your videos, your pads look pretty good. They don't seem to move around much, and you even have the two pads duct-taped together when playing doubles! That must be nice. (I've sent quite a few requests to my nearby arcade to replace the sensors on the 1P side, but so far no success...) Whee, some day I'll be able to do this o.O

By the way, this may be a bit random, but are you popular at your nearby arcade? xD

Hey there! Haven't chatted you in forever. Anyways, I just took a look through some of your videos, and I realized, you have over 300 videos! I've noticed a couple of things throughout your videos that I found rather interesting...

First off, do you know how the difficulty of Stepmania and ITG2 are relative to say, a Supernova 2 AC (or a X2 for that matter, since I recall there being a X2 machine around)? For most of the time, the only access to an AC is an ITG2 machine. To me, the life bar seems to go down a bit slower on Stepmania and ITG.

Also, your play-style seems to be of rather large movements. Have you ever tried playing with the bar, like the people here: Playing with the bar allows your center of mass to be slightly farther back, which in turn allows you to use your heel to hit the down arrow instead of your toes (which eliminates quite a few pad-misses and uses less stamina in general). Though I have to say, you're really great at doing crossovers. Something I never quite understood how to do properly is to do up crossover (e.g. left, up, right, up, left). Do you have any tips? I usually just BS crossovers oriented over the top (though I'm okay at down crossovers), which sometimes seriously screws me over on harder songs...

Oh yeah and lastly, do you play doubles often?

Keep up all the awesome videos! ;)

Anime compatibility with Thumbsy is:
Very High

CosmynX Oct 1, 2013 10:52 PM
Oh, so that's on the old scale. :O
From what I can tell, it seems to me that the conversion works something like this:
4 to 6
5 to 7, low 8
6 to high 8, 9
7 to 10
8 to 11, low 12
9 to high 12, 13, low 14
10 to high 14+
Though I'm seriously overly concerned with groove radars, ratings, and such xD

Personally, your song probably seems more like an 8 to me. It has an appropriate stream (~320 notes/1:40, albeit at a rather fast speed), but with relatively low voltage. As in, there seem to be too many long 4th note sections, and no real fast streams to constitute a 9. (For example, DROP OUT has a very long 260BPM section at the end)
CosmynX Sep 28, 2013 8:26 AM
Well, I guess they aren't actual crossovers, but they do require using the right foot to step the left panel, left foot for right panel... I would be referring to the section around 1:39-1:45 in this video:

Ahh, I'm being stupid. I just realized emails from MAL have been in my spam for...over a month. o.o Well...

Someday, I'd really love to be able to make my step-charts and re-rate their groove radars. (I constantly complain about how groove radars aren't properly callibrated, particularly for voltage and chaos) Though, I'd say the video on your profile would probably be a 10, not a 9, though it doesn't really matter. xD
CosmynX Sep 23, 2013 10:28 PM
Ehh, I generally fail FAXX miserably, because of that screwy 400 BPM section at the end with the crossovers and the stream jumps. I suck, suck, suck and suck some more at stream jumps. =/ Though sometimes, when I'm really tired after an hour of play, I get too lazy to lift my feet, and somehow get better at fast stream jumps...

The machine near my house is actually an ITG machine...and it's rather hilarious - the 1P side sucks, but the 2P side is actually decent. Though the hard-ish/boss songs (i.e. 13+) on Supernova2, X, X2 don't appeal to me that much.

By the way, are you getting emails from MAL? I literally haven't gotten an email in a month or so. I think they said the email issue too...
CosmynX Sep 20, 2013 10:40 PM
Hmm, interesting, I'd probably say 12-15 or so would be my preferred range of difficulty, like yours. I've passed FAXX on expert once in my life... :O

Are there decent machines in the Netherlands? It must be nice to have DDR X2 machines. Here in the US, there are only crappy machines. Literally the closest decent machine is around 50 miles away from my house. I play on soft pads on the CS release for the most part. =/

But I guess I don't mind that much, since X2 songs don't interest me that much... In general, I just really like older, say 6th mix songs. MAX300, Matsuri Japan, So Deep, Paranoia Rebirth, V (for Extreme). Supernova songs are nice too, like Happy Angel, Curus....
