Alright, i'm gonna describe Blood-C in a nutshell:
I watched The Room, Birdemic, Troll 2, Gymkata, A Serbian Film, The Last Airbender and several MST3k episodes like Prince of Space, Werewolf, Invaders from Neptune, Sandy Frank's Gamera films and Manos.
And none of them are as bad as Blood-C.
Yes, i enjoyed all those bad movies more than Blood-C.
Seriously, i enjoyed A Serbian Film more than Blood-C. Yup, a movie which features Newborn Porn and countless numbers of necrophilia is more fun to watch than Blood-C!
Congratulations Production IG and CLAMP! You made A Serbian Film tolerable! By making the worst iteration of the Blood franchise exist, you
...
guys pretty much made A Serbian Film more tolerable!
Seriously, this is one of the worst anime of 2011. It's up there with Rio! Rainbow Gate and Oniikoto as thee worst anime iof 2011. But atleast Rio! had some decent fanservice to make up for it's shittiness. This? NOTHING!
There is nothing in this series that can make up for how bad it is. Hell, not even Nana Mizuki tries her best to improve this pile of shit. Hell, whenever she talks about cube marshmallows and sing the same fucking song in every episode, you can just hear Nana Mizuki's inner thoughts saying:
"Seriously, i have to do 12 episodes of this shit. What the fuck am i doing here? I was expecting some xxxHolic and Geass, but i got this?!"
And speaking of CLAMP, they did a really shitty job at EVERYTHING in this series. The character designs are really awful, and it doesn't even stack up to their other character designs. And nanase Ohkawa wasn't even trying to make this series better. It's like she just copypasta'd the first half of episode 1 into the other 11 episodes. The writing of this series is so bad that you feel like you're watching a shittier remake of Endless Eight as written by Uwe Boll.
And what sound? What music? There's nothing memorable about any of the music of this series. Nana Mizuki's morning song in each episode sucked, and the OP is just some shitty J-Rock filer music by some band i don't even give a shit about.
In conclusion: IT SUCKED. It made even the worst film in history look good. it made Mars of Destruction and Dragonaut look like Citizen Kane! I dropped this shit after episode 3 because i'd rather read all the other summaries of the other episodes on 4chan than watching this series. That shows how bad it is. Oh, and i want to cockpunch anyone who claims to like this series. If you even say that you like this series, then you're an asshole and you deserve to lose your genitals just like all the other male characters drawn by CLAMP.
Fuck this, i need to go for a drink.

Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman star as two detectives who investigate a series of murders relating to the seven deadly sins, like wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. They discover that these series of murders are conducted by Kevin Spacey who plays a hardcore Christian who's only trying to do God's holy work and.....
...wait? This isn't Se7en? You mean, we aren't watching the David Fincher movie? Oh, you want me to review SACRED Seven, not Se7en. Oh, okay.
Alright, let's talk Sacred Seven. Now, let's say you're a producer at Studio Sunrise and you are asked to produce an anime for the Summer of
...
2011 Schedule. What do you do?
Why, remake Scryed of course! With Code Geass visuals!
Now, Sacred Seven is basically that: An updated version of Scryed with the appeal of Code Geass. It's pretty much one of those dumb things you get while you're at a meeting room brainstorming for an idea. It's like a cupcake. It's sweet and might get you fat, but it looks really good.
The story revolves around Squal...i mean Alma Tandoji (voiced by Takuma Terashima), an outcast high schooler who gains the power of the "Sacred Seven", which is used to defeat Darkstones. Darkstones are pretty much the tamer equivalent of Angels, except they have the bodies of rocks. His power is so strong that she is summoned by a socialite named Ruri Alba(voiced by Megumi Nakajima) to help her defeat these Darkstones once and for all.
And while he's not defeating Darkstones, he spends most of his days looking for rocks on a river with the help of The Rock Club, led by a "rock otaku" named Itou.
As the series progresses, Alma & Ruri met with various individuals using these Darkstones like Kenbi Yuuji(voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi), a multi-millionaire and Knight Kijima(voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto), a former lab patient-turned-fugitive. It also delves deeper into Alma and Ruri's relationship as well.
The story is really stupid, and when it has filler episodes, it goes into boring slice of life tropes. It also has the laziest writing in a Sunrise anime, and the fight scenes are filled with bad pacing and thus you are unable to care about what is happening during those scenes. It's weak, and proves how lazy and rushed this series is.
The characters in this series varied from "Boring" to "boring". Seriously, Alma wants "to turn into a rock" because he is one, and he is such a bore in this series, along with almost everyone else in this series. The closest thing we have to interesting characters are SP and Ruri most of the time. And SP is nothing more than Kenbi's subordinate so when a suppoorting character with less than 5 minutes of screen time is more interesting than most of the main characters, then you'll know something is wrong with this series.
And Miyu Irino plays an asshole battle butler who's pretty useless in the "battle" part of it. And he's only there to ramp up the fujoshi potential between him, Knight and Alma for the next Comiket.
But, the good thing about this series is the visuals. They are beautiful, and it pretty much uses Yuriko Chiba's work to it's full potential. It's great to look at and it has elements of scenery porn here and there. Now, i heard that the budget for Tiger & Bunny got halved for the animation of this series which causes lots of controversy, but i'm kind of neutral in this issue so i don't want to go further into that.
The character design is really cool. Alma resembles a certain Final Fantasy character, but he is well-drawn for a character without an interesting personality. But i love how Ruri is drawn. She's a loli, but she is not drawn like one. Instead, she is drawn in a way that she doesn't resemble a loli at all. I like that kind of design, because it's rare since most lolis nowadays look like stock character designs taken from a JC Staff artbook.
And the music in this is what kept me from dropping this show. I love listening to the music, especiallythe OP which sounds like the classy 90's Techno/Trance tunes i used to listen back during my rave days. And it also has amazing orchestra scores which are pretty fitting for this series. The OP is composed by Yuki Kajiura, and the full score is done by Toshihiko Sahashi, so you know that the budget also goes to it's amazing music.
And to be fair, this series manages to be humble with itself and not make it cringeworthy for the viewer. because atleast it doesn't turn into another shallow vanity project like Star Driver. Even with it's flashy visuals, character design and music it's pretty good that SUnrise manages to not make it another Star Driver or Code Geass in both production and marketing aspects, because if it does then it'd suck. It's already low on the character and story aspects so let's not go lower and turn this into another Brain Powered.
Overall, Sacred Seven is a rushed project that was conceived out of Yajime Hatate's ass. It's filled with a stupid story and uninteresting characters but it does have a great score and amazing visuals. Will i recommend it? Well, it's okay but i'd prefer you guys to watch the fansubbed version of this series instead of an official sub/dub release. Fansubbers have done a fun job with this series, like replacing the OP with Gangsta Rap music for example. the fansubs are trolltastic. And if troll fansubs are your thing, then this series might be for you to accompany the great visuals and musical score that comes with it.

Natsu no Arashi! is what you get when you take an anime like Working!! and fuse it with the science of time travel, WWII and 1970's nostalgia. Adapted from a manga by School Rumble's Jin Kobayashi, this series is directed by Akiyuki Shinbo and Shin Oonuma (both of SHAFT fame of course) and written by Arakawa Under the Bridge's Deko Akao and Takayama Katsuhiko who wrote Ga Rei Zero and Boku no Pico (No, seriously).
It's about a boy named Yasaka Hajime (voiced by Yuuko Sanpei) who's having the summer of his life by working in a cafe during the summer with a ghost named Arashiyama
...
(voiced by Ryoko Shiraishi) who has the ability to time travel to the past. Both Arashiyama and Yasaka worked in the cafe with their boss Sayaka (voiced by Hitomi Nabatame), Yasaka's friend Jun (voiced by Chiaki Omigawa) along with other ghosts including a German girl named Kaja (voiced by Kaori Nazuka), and two of Arashiyama's school mates Kanako (voiced by Yui Horie) and Yayoi (voiced by Nonaka Ai). And frequenting the cafe is a detective named Hideo Murata (voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto) and several characters voiced by Tomokazu Sugita.
The thing i love about this series is the music. The OP and ED for this anime is based on the groovy late 60s to mid 70's music that was popular in Asia. My parents were raised by the music of the 60's and 70's, and listening to the OPs and EDs of this anime brought me back to the days of my mom & dad listening to vinyl records of the 60's and 70's. And the that 60's/70's influenced sounds are littered throughout the series. it's even played during the scenes in the cafe, which makes you feel liek you are there.
The visuals and art are okay. However, i do not think that Shinbo and Oonuma's directing is fit with the art of this series. There is something i felt missing whenever i look at the art and direction of Natsu no Arashi. I always think the designs of Jin Kobayashi's anime are more suited for straightforward directing like you see in Schol Rumble. But Shinbo and Oonuma does manage to make their direction work well sometimes and since this animne is less absurd and less weird than his other works, i think he along with Azuma Kouji, Watanabe Mayumi and Hibino Jin pulled it off really good.
There are subplots in this anime, including a backstory on Arashiyama's past, along with backstories on other ghosts like Kaja, Yayoi and Kanako. There's even an episode discussing the ideas of time travel paradoxes, and it's hilarious. Seeing Sayaka and Kaja debating ontological paradox for an entire episode is just amusing to my sake.
Now the characters to me are very good and likeable. Yasaka is a rare male character. He's enthusiastic, playful and he doesn't give a fuck. You don't see guys like him being main characters nowadays. And what's better is that he works in a cafe full of female employees, and yet this series does it well in refusing to give a harem subplot for Yasaka. He doesn't go around and flirt with his female colleagues. He just wants to have fun working with a time travelling ghost in a cafe which is filled with female employees.
This is very underrated. Infact, it's so underrated that you don't see this anime being discussed alot unlike other anime series by SHAFT. If you really love works by SHAFT, then i suggest you should go and watch this. It deserves more recognition and more DVD sales because while it has 2 seasons, i think a 3rd season would be great as well.
Oh, and can you pass me some salt please?

The thing about deconstruction anime is that everyone in the industry wants to make one, and the only reason is because that everyone wants a slice of Utena and Evangelion. Too bad not many are able to succeed in overtaking both Evangelion and Utena. The closest i can think of is Now, Here, Then & There which deconstructs the "another world" genre but it still failed to make an impact to the industry & fandom like what Eva & Utena did.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica might not be the next Evangelion & Utena, but it certainly creates the same impact to the industry in the same
...
way that Evangelion & utena did. With great critical reception and high sales in DVDs and Blu-Rays, Madoka Magica exceeded it's expectations as a deconstruction of the Mahou Shoujo genre.
The story is about a middle schooler named Kaname Madoka who is torn between two choices: to either be a Mahou Shoujo in order to prevent an apocalyptic event called Walpurgisnacht or to not be a Mahou Shoujo in order to save herself from the impending despair befalling her.
In the midst of these two choices are two people who wants her to decide: Kyubey, a cat-thingy who wants her to be a Mahou Shoujo and Akemi Homura, a Mahou Shoujo who doesn't want her to be a Mahou Shoujo.
Now, the story starts off basically as that, but as it progresses it becomes more of a Faustian retelling than a simple Mahou Shoujo story. As the anime goes on, her friends and family members became torn as she sees her friends die, her colleagues becoming witches and the suffering Madoka endured. We get to see the true nature of Kyubey, and why Homura does not want Madoka to be a Mahou Shoujo. It's gets sadder, and in the end you can feel the sadness going into your heart.
The thing that sets Madoka Magica apart from other Mahou Shoujo anime is that not only it's a deconstruction, it's also a more Evangelion-esque take on the genre. This is directed by Akiyuki Shinbo who's known for directing not only SHAFT's greatest works, but also anime masterpieces like Nanoha and La Petite Cosette, so you get alot of influences from Nanoha, Cosette and other SHAFT works in this. It's also written by Nitroplus's gen Urobuchi, known for writing mangas like Saya no Ueta and Fate/Zero along with Nitoplus's games like Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head. So unlike Utena, Tutu and other Mahou Shoujo deconstructions, Madoka Magica makes itself way more darker ala Narutaru or Bokurano. Urobuchi was a fan of Mohiro Kitoh, and thus you can see some influences from Kitoh's works in this.
The art and animation is pretty good. Now, SHAFT is also known for being experimental so they also include lots of stop-motion and retro-European animation style. But due to this, you can see QUALITY animation which became the product of 4chan memes. Still, it's nice to look at and it doesn't have "stop text" like Shinbo's other anime works.
The characters start off generic like other Mahou Shoujos, but as the story progresses they become much more interesting. Especially Akemi Homura, where later in the series you get the suffering she endures just to prevent Madoka from being a Mahou Shoujo. Her story is just heartbreaking. Madoka's friend Miki Sayaka also has a good side story, seeing her becoming a Mahou Shoujo because of a promise and getting broken after that. it's mean and sad at the same time.
Speaking of characters, the seiyuus in this are really good. Yuuki Aoi does a good job as Kaname Madoka, whereas SHAFT queen Chiwa Saito is amazing as Akemi Homura. Eri Kitamura does a great job as Miki Sayaka and Kaori Mizuhashi is also good as Mami Tomoe, a blonde but more refined version of her character from Hidamari Sketch. Nonaka Ai (Another SHAFT seiyuu) also does a great job as Kyouko Sakura. But one surprising casting is none other than Emiri Katou as Kyubey. Yes, it's Kagami from Lucky Star doing a role that is definitely different from her Lucky Star days. Holy damn i was surprised and disturbed at how good she is as Kyubey. I'm surprised.
The sound is great. Yuji kajiura's wonderful music creates this magical atmosphere that is present throughout this series. The OP is wonderful, i love listening to the OP. It's beautiful but as the series progressed, you actually feel sadder listening to it. It's one of the saddest OPs i've listened to in a while. But i don't like the ED. It felt more like a rip-off of a System of a Down song. Seriously, Kalafina's singer sounds like a Japanese high school girl trying to sing like Serj Tankian. I'ms erious. I don't get why people actually like the ED. But in the end, it didn't affect my enjoyment of Yuki Kajiura's music as a whole, so therefore with the exception of the ED, the music and sound of this is amazing.
Oh and if you really want to enjoy watching this, do not judge this series from its first episode. Watch until episode 3, and after that you will get to know this series better.
Overall, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is a well made anime that does the same impact as EVa or Utena. Whereas Utena deconstructs the Sailor Moon style of Mahou Shoujo, this series deconstructs the Nanoha side of Mahou Shoujo, and in the end it's great. It gets into your heart and you'll love it in the end.

If there is an anime that is considered "the douchiest anime ever made", then School Days is the one you're looking for. Infact, i was surprised that this wasn't produced or sponsored by MTV, since it looks like an anime that could have been made by the producers of My Super Sweet 16, Teen Mom, the US remake of Skins and Jersey Shore. Hell, if i were an MTV executive who wants to make an anime in Japan, School Days would be it.
Before i go further, let me tell you abut one man named Tucker Max. He was an Ivy League graduate of Duke
...
University and around 2007 (The same year School Days was aired), he published a book called "I Hope They Served Beer in Hell" which tells of Tucker's harem tales of all the chicks he fucked.
Now, if you adapt "I Hope They Served Beer in Hell" into a harem anime with a twist ending, then you basically got an entire series of School Days. That's pretty much it.
The original visual novel was good, but this is not. And it's not even bad. It's just shocking, and it's not even that shocking. The only way to describe this anime is that it's the biggest middle finger ever pointed at the viewer. Seriously, this anime is made just to piss you off, and it did a great job at that. The visual novel is basically another take on the harem genre, and this was made to piss off not only anime fans, but also fans of the original visual novel.
Now the story is basically about a clueless idiot named Makoto who fell in love with a shy girl in school named Katsura. Makoto's classmate Sekai wants to help him get Katsura as his girlfriend, but in the process she fell in love with him. And then, a love triangle occurs which turns into a hexagonal bullshit harem between Makoto and almost every female character in this series which ends up as a display of really nice boats.
That's the story. Once you finished this series you'll start thinking "WTF did i just watch?" It's simple as that.
Speaking of WTF, let's talk about the characters. Seriously, this anime has the worst characters ever. The guys are douchebags and the girls are sluts. Makoto starts off as a clueless generic harem lead, but by the end of the series he becomes a dick-waving asshole that he even makes The Situation from Jersey Shore look good. And every character in this series wants Makoto's dick. Hell, they even turn the only sane character Nanami into a slut despite not wanting Makoto. And i fucking despise Sekai. Seriously, it's her fault for making moves on Makoto in the first place. Hell, she's the reason why Makoto became a douche and why everyone (including herself and Katsura) ended up being shit. She's a horrible woman and she is as bad as Makoto. Hell, Makoto and Sekai deserve each other instead of Katsura.
But the one thing that kept me from dropping this anime is the visuals, the direction and the sound. I mean, this was disturbingly well-directed and animated. Hell, this was directed by the guy who went on to make Katanagatari. But again, shock value must be well-presented. I mean, A Serbian Film was horrifying but it was still well-directed. And this was well animated for a studio that does primarily low-rate anime and hentai OVAs.
And then, there's the sound. The seiyuus are pretty good and Daisuke Hirakawa does a great job with Makoto. You also get side-character roles by the likes of A-listers like Chiaki Takahashi and Minami Kuribayashi, but the rest are mostly rookies and c-list seiyuus. And the music is very good. You get OPs and EDs sung by really famous singers like Kanako Itu, Haruko Momoi and others. It's a strong point for this series and the songs done by them fits well with the episodes of this series.
But sadly good visuals, direction and sound does not justify the douchiness of this anime. In the end of the day, you feel like you're gonna need a drink just to forget that you saw this.
So should you watch this? Well, i suggest you should try and watch it on a date. Have a 6-hour marathon of this pissfest with your girlfriend with lots of beer and pretzels. See how that goes
But the only other good thing is that this anime has a really nice depiction of boats. They're so nice, that i even signed up for a membership at a prestigious boat club in Monaco, and now i'm hanging out with ousted dictators, Victoria's Secret models, arms dealers, Republican congressmen and billionaires. So thank you School Days for getting me into boating. You get a credit for that.

"This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy, Koyomi Araragi of Chiba in the Kanto Region, grew up believing that he'd never truly be happy until the day he met the one. This belief stemmed from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total mis-reading of the movie 'The Graduate'. The girl, Senjougahara Hitagi also of Chiba in the Kanto Region, did not share this belief. Since the disintegration of her parent's marriage she'd only love two things. The first was her long hair. The second was how easily she could cut it off and not feel a thing. Araragi meets
...
Senjougahara on January 8th. He knows almost immediately she is who he has been searching for. This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story." And this line was taken from the intro of 500 Days of Summer.
Watching Bakemonogatari reminds me alot of 500 Days of Summer. I loved 500 Days of Summer, and the film was released the same time Bakemonogatari was aired in Japan. Both Bakemonogatari and 500 Days of SUmmer shared the exact ideas of love, and relationship. But like 500 Days of Sumemr, it is not a love story.
Bakemonopgatari is adapted from a light novel series by Nisio Isin and is produced by SHAFT studios, known for their artistic takes on various genres and is directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, known for his works like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha and his recent work, mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.
The story revolves around Koyomi Araragi, an average high schooler who somehow turned into a vampire. During an afterschool hang out with his friend Hanekawa, he met a woman named Senjoughara Hitagi who's also Araragi's classmate. It turns out she's a woman who has an incurable disease that turns her into a weightless human. And this is where the romance begins.
And let me repeat this: This is not a love story.
You see, Bakemonogatari is more of a series of supernatural stories mixed in with a harem story. Throughout his complicated romance with Hitagi, Araragi encounters females who are also supernatural entities like Senjougahara, and each of these females are told in a series of story arcs. In these arcs, You got Senjougahara who's suffering from a "weightless" disease, a little girl named Hachikuji Mayoi who got lost on her way home, a junior student of Araragi's school named Kanbaru who has a monkey's claw on her left arm, a girl named Nadeko who has a snake-like entity tied around her body and Araragi's friend and class rep hanekawa who has a bit of a cat problem. Each of these girls' arcs are well shown and follows faithfully from the light novel series.
What makes Bakemonogatari a really good series is the characters. Araragi is very similar to Tom from 500 Days of Summer: A snarky but average man with an interesting view of life. He's quite relatable in a sense that atleast he's not whiny or idiotic like most males in a harem or a romantic comedy.
And then you have Senjougahara. She proclaims herself as a tsundere, but she's more of a kuudere and she's quite a cold person, but she is able to relate to Araragi and unlike most tsundere & kuudere characters, she doesn't try and torture Araragi, and even when she does, she does it to a point where Araragi can atleast tolerate.
The central supporting character in this Mimi Oshino, a spiritual healer who helps people with spiritual & supernatural disorders. He is also aided by Shinobu, a little girl who's also a vampire. He and SHinobu play a part in each arc, from helping Senjougahara's weightless problem to treating a girl who has an invisible snake entity tied around her body.
This is a SHAFT anime, so most of the time you'll be reading a story that might make no sense at first, but makes alot of sense later. SHAFT always goes for this route. It takes a while to get used to this anime's storyline, and you will have a hard time understanding it unless if you have read the light novels earlier.
The art and animation in this is amazing. It follows a Film Noir style and It's pretty much influenced by French New Wave directors like Francois Truffaut and Jean Luc Godard, and the animation is pretty much based on Akiyuki Shinbo's previous works: Lots of cuts, the used of text and complex character interactions. This is Shinbo's most artistic work. DOn't expect a Pani Poni Dash or Zetsubou Sensei with this anime. It's way different than his previous works and it might just be his most artistic yet.
I love the music in this anime. It's composed by Satoru Kousaki, who is pretty much one of my favourite composers in anime. He has done Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya series and Star Driver, but Bakemonogatari is his best work, with insert music and background music inspired by Yoko Kanno and Leftfield. The OPs of this anime are based on the character arcs, and are sung by the females of this show. My favourite has to be Staple and Stable by Chiwa Saitou and Renai Circulation by Kana Hanazawa. Both are OPs that i've been listening to on my iPod for the past few days an di can't stop listening to them.
Speaking of Kana Hanazawa and Chiwa Saitou, let's talk about the voice acting. The seiyuus in this are amazing, with SHAFT employing it's regulars like Kamiya Hiroshi, Saitou Chiwa, Sawashiro Miyuki and Horie Yui to fill in for their characters. All of these seiyuus have done a great job with this, especially Kamiya Hiroshi who does a great job as Araragi. When he's not doing the likes of Izaya, he tends to do characters like Araragi and Nozomu Itoshiki, and the amount of energy and voice he pulls to his characters are amazing.
In conclusion, Bakemonogatari is a work of art. it balances between a fun take on supernatural entities with a romance that resembles 500 Days of Summer. Watching this is like looking at beautiful paintings at the Louvre. It's just amazing and if you love Neo-Noir or French New Wave Films by Truffaut and Godard, then you'll definitely love this anime.

There are animes that i want to hate, but ended up enjoying it. Sengoku Otome is one of them. Adapted from a Pachinko series, it's one of those animes that i thougt will definitely suck, but ended up being more enjoyable that it does. I want to hate it, but in the end i ended up liking it.
The story revolves around Hideyoshi, the everyday dumb girl who got transported from modern-day Tokyo to gender-reversed Sengoku-era Japan and met with Nobunaga Oda and Akechi Mitsuhide, who are now female and are ruling the warring states in a world where no men ever existed and everyone is
...
a good-looking female.
And Nobunaga, being the person who wants to unite the whole of Japan, wants Hideyoshi to help her find the armour that will help her and Mitsuhide unite Japan as one. And from now on, every battle occured in the Sengoku Period becomes a slice of life anime.
Seriously, they take a Sengoku Period anime and turn it into a slice of life anime. Yes, that's what happens. Nobunaga, Mitsuhide, Masamune, and every other person from the Warring States period are now female characters from Hidamari Sketch, and instead of battling each other, they do things like kite flying, town building and "school plays". And it's all thanks to Hideyoshi, who brought Heisei-era pacifist ideas to the Sengoku Period.
Of course being the Sengoku period there are battles and fights, and yes the fight scenes are kinda cool. But they are nothing more than everyday occurences instead of major story arcs, so it's nothing big.
And i liked that. It's an interesting idea, especially when you have female versions of historical figures in this. I mean the lack of battles in this was surprising, but it add a nice touch to the series by replacing it with pacifistic ideas of competition. And that's really cool, i enjoy this take on the Sengoku Period.
And the characters are surprising likeable. Hideyoshi, while being an idiot actually does stuff that makes her likeable. In one episode, she helps rebuild a town that was ravaged by fire with the help of Heisei-era optimism mixing with Sengoku-era work ethics. That is pretty likeable and is a good use of Hideyoshi's character. instead of "LOL look at the dumb girl from the future", the writers use her to her advantage. Whereas, you got a female Nobunaga Oda who actually resembles closely to her real-life Male counterpart, being a person who is street-smart and has a liking towards foreign culture. Other characters like Mitsuhide and Masamune are okay, but Mitsuhide can be a nuisance sometimes, and she's basically the stereotypical "She Is Mine so you GTFO" character who has the hots for Nobunaga (Yeah, this is pretty much Yuri territory).
Fanservice-wise, it's just there. Unlike Highschool of the Dead, it doesn't try and shove their boobs and ass on your face. It just appears there. Yes, they are all wearing skimpy armour and clothing, but the director doesn't want to say "HEY LOOK THEY'RE ALL HOT SO GO AND FAP TO IT!!!!" so in the end the fanservice is minimal unlike Freezing or HoTD. That's good, and is a refreshing change from most fanservice/female-centric action animes we've seen lately. There is nude fanservice in the ED and several hot spring scenes but that's as far as it goes.
But the use of sound and music are bland to say. Sure, the music fits with the background, but it has a "meh" OP and ED, and it's not memorable to say. The OP is hummable but in the end of the day you don't even care about it. the ED is pretty sentimental and has a nice acoustic riff, but it still doesn't strike me.
The Art and visuals are nice for a TMS studio anime. They might not be great, but there are nice scenery moments and it does strike well with me. Character designs are really cool, especially when they're female variations of Sengoku Period historical figures. The female version of Nobunaga Oda closely resembles the Oda we see in Sengoku basara and Onimusha, but the rest of the characters look way younger than their male counterparts.
The seiyuus in this do fit their characters. Hidaka Rina does a good job as Hideyoshi and Megumi Toyoguchi is awesome as Nobunaga Oda, especially with that strong female voice she has. And then you have Eri Kitamura as Mitsuhide, a very serious but clumsy character which works with her style of voice. She hasn't voiced those types of characters lately, and it's nice to see her doing a different character.
In summary, Sengoku Otome is a decent, fun take on the Sengoku Period by turning a Male-centric history into a female slice-of life anime. i'm serious. It's basically that. I really want to hat it and call it shit but it turns out to be an enjoyable experience. it's kinda funny, and the characters are likeable. But you'll be disappointed if you're looking for an Onimusha/Sengoku Basara-esque story in this. it's a good "turn off your brain" anime, and it's a great guilty pleasure in the end. I Enjoyed it.
