Hi!

It's nice to hear you enjoyed the Area 88 OVAs. You should definitely check out the anime if you enjoyed the OVAs. It's one of my favorites (especially since I'm a huge aviation fan). Let me know what you think of the TV show when you complete it. It's really nice to hear that somebody else enjoyed this show!

Also good to see some older fans on MAL!

Hi Talon, that otaku customer sounds amazing. I was always big into cartoons, so I only got into Japanese animation because it was listed right after. But I recognised the different art style from shows that were airing on local TV - like "Thunderbirds 2086" *__*

I've been lucky in that I've always had shows airing on television. In secondary school (high school + middle school) shows like "Tekkaman Blade" and "Samurai X" aired on TV and became really popular with a large audience, then it became really easy to find anime, even though most people never became otaku (at my level -_-;). Perhaps because I couldn't compare at the time, but the English voice acting back then was much better than it is now. I still try to watch whatever is airing on Adultswim (under a neurotic level of loyalty) and I find a lot of the shows terrible.

Went through your list - gah, you gave FLCL a 1 and Spirited Away a 6 *dies*

I rate pretty high (I'm easily entertained), but both of those are 10s to me. No matter what. :D

I'd also highly recommend "Shirobako" which is a show about the anime industry and making anime. It's pretty fun.

Cheers man, from another adult anime watcher who remembers the days of VHS and waiting months and years to complete a series. Every Friday my family used to rent movies, and everyone got to pick something (with my parents having no limit). And I worked my way through their anime catalogue. Good times.

Hey, found your profile in the DBZ stats section since we're both crushing through it. Part of the fun of this site, for me, is seeing who else is watching what I'm watching. Just wanna say I like your story. And I miss the old comic shops I went to as a kid in the 90s. All of them are gone now :(. I can think of very few cooler places to work.

Can't say I miss VHS quality anything though. Then again, I didn't start watching anime until I was 29 so all I had to tape was Star Trek Next Generation and Seinfeld every week... not exactly rare questing material ;p

Enjoy the DBZ and stay a nerd forever, man. Take care.
