𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐀𝐃𝐃𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 : (Summary- I started with DBZ, then after 4 years got hooked on anime)
𝐅 𝐢 𝐫 𝐬 𝐭 𝐭 𝐚 𝐬 𝐭 𝐞
At first it hit me very subtly , I first experimented with a harmless 'cartoon' named 'Dragon Ball Z' at first glace It didn't seem right and I shoved it aside... As time passed the devil came knocking at my door as I succumbed to peer pressure, that's right my friend occasionally indulged in DBZ and asked if I would join. I stared small , I was a social DBZ fan ( only watched with friends ) then It escalated to an occasional user , my case worsened when I started buying a more addictive product , I then experimented with DBZ games and before I knew it I convinced my fellow bored peers, that I may occasionally call friends, to indulge in these 'cartoons' and games with me. Before we knew it we would assemble at an agreed location to take part in this watching of DBZ.
𝐂 𝐥 𝐞 𝐚 𝐧 𝐬 𝐢 𝐧 𝐠 𝐦 𝐲 𝐬 𝐨 𝐮 𝐥
After having re-watched the entire 'Dragon Ball Z' series as well as 'Dragon Ball GT' twice I told myself I've got to get out , sure I've lost some friends along this journey to reach my grand resolve and inner peace. And then my social life started thriving , I became head boy at my school , joined some sports teams and lived a great life.
𝐓 𝐡 𝐞 𝐑 𝐞 𝐥 𝐚 𝐩 𝐬 𝐞
After finding myself I realised that there was a hole in me that couldn't be filled by the pleasures life has to offer...something was missing and no friend , lover nor physical object could suffice in making me whole. Hmp , I guess it's true that the devil strikes you when you're on your knees ,vulnerable. My relapse came to me in the form of my fellow friend once again...let's just call this friend 'JOSHUA' (for the sake of the story) , now before leaving my house Joshua left me with '𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐢 𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐤𝐢i' this thing called an 'ANIME''. At the time this was no more than Japanese cartoons with subtitles that moved way too fast for me to read , after i rejected Joshua's offer he left the anime with me regardless. So one lonely night I decided to watch this ,which would today be known as my 1st ANIME I watched after DBZ. All the signs were there , the art style , the gripping story and the cool fight scenes but I remained oblivious to the fact that this was similar to the 'cartoon' that consumed my life at first (DBZ).
𝐁 𝐞 𝐠 𝐢 𝐧 𝐧 𝐢 𝐧 𝐠 𝐨 𝐟 𝐭 𝐡 𝐞 𝐄 𝐧 𝐝
While watching 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐢 𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐤𝐢 I found that , just temporarily, a piece of the empty void inside was filled. Then less subtly than the 1st time, I got hooked... from there I got the product known as 𝐒𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 ,from my original dealer , since I trusted the 720p quality of his products. I went on to 𝐓𝐨𝐤𝐲𝐨 𝐆𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥 ( PS: My condition was so bad that I started off with the hardcore Subbed anime (Sub) skipping Dubbed (Dub).
𝐀 𝐍 𝐈 𝐌 𝐄 𝐀 𝐃 𝐃 𝐈 𝐂 𝐓
Soon after watching 6 anime ( Which included the lengthy 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥 ) in less than 3 weeks I became aware of the fact that I'm now an ANIME JUNKIE or more commonly known as an OTAKU or WEEB , at this point I no longer cared about the quality of the product nor where it came from , I just knew I wanted more. Now in 2024, after having watched various anime, I can honestly say I've prioritised animated 2D figures over finding a romantic partner in the real world... AND I'M ENJOYING IT!!! As Gigguk once said when one has reached the height on their journey to the animated path of enlightenment one can comfortably say that "𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐇, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐎 𝐀𝐌 𝐈"
