The main reason for writing this review is to get people to give this show a try. Right of the start, let me be clear - it's by no means extraordinary and a must-watch, but I do think you shouldn't just skip it without giving it a try.

Story 7/10
The story revolves around street gangs in Ikebukuro, with the main protagonist Makoto Majima not really belonging to any of them (even though he is the best friend of the guy leading one of the gangs).

Each episode so far (5 episodes as of writing this review) is a stand-alone one in terms of story, but I wouldn't ... be surprised if some of them connect in the future episodes.

That being said, the main tone of the stories is exploring social problems, such as bullying, overworking, discrimination, drugs... A person with a problem approaches Makoto and asks for help. The solution to the problem at times may be obvious, but the process of getting to the goal and social interactions are in the focus. Each problem is presented from several perspectives which really gives it some depth and room for thought, which is the main thing getting you invested in the show.


Art 8/10
The art style fits the setting. Characters have a nice and distinct design and there is some fluidity and natural feeling to their movement. The animation is consistent and at the level you'd expect for a seasonal anime.


Sound 8/10
While there are no soundtracks that really stand out, every scene is accompanied by a fitting one which I find most important. As an analogy, imagine sitting in a bar with someone you want to hang out and have a chat. The ambient music is welcome for the mood, but you don't want it to be distracting you from the conversation. Well, in the same sense, this music here fits just right. It gives the right vibe to the scenes, without really standing out.


Character 8/10
It's early in the anime, and already we have a lot of characters and each one from the main cast had some development or small side story. There are quite a few very charismatic characters and I look forward to seeing more of them. I like the approach of developing characters through specific situations, instead of just giving a backstory for each individual character.

Regardless of the mood I find myself in at the time of watching the episodes, I enjoy watching them.

There are a lot of shows coming out this season, and I wouldn't really say that this one stands out as something special, but the same could be said about a lot of the other ones as well. I feel that the overall quality of anime has skyrocketed in the past few years, making the standards higher then they should be.

I personally try to judge the anime I watch in the context of what it wants to accomplish, and not by comparing it to others, as I really think that each story is it's own thing and can't be easily compared to another one. Basically, it's just a matter of expectations. I have certain expectations for the show I'm watching based on how much potential the initial setting provides. If I feel like the potential is well used, I consider it a job well done, regardless of how it fairs to other anime.

That being said, I look forward to seeing how the story will develop and am pleased with the current progress.

While there were only 4 episodes out at the time of writing this, I wanted to make a review to get people to give this a try. With a lot of good anime coming out this season it's easy to skip this one, but that would be a big mistake in my opinion. So lets dive into it.

Story 7/10

The basic story isn't that special if you really think about it, but the way it's executed makes it special. It's about five girls in a literature club who stumble upon an erotic book and start discussing it, but they all lack experience in that regard. It ... helps a lot that one of the five girls doesn't mind being open about discussing it, and soon the girls find themselves talking about sex and love. From there on the story focuses on the emotional development of the girls as they start to explore their feelings and sexuality. This is done in a quite realistic manner. The emphasis is on the psychology of the characters and not on the mindless ecchi scenes which appear in most anime of the genre.

Art 9/10

While the artstyle may appear a bit bland at first, I find it very fitting for the story. The animation is fluid and really knows how to draw out the emotions from the characters. It reminds me most of the animation in "Sora yori mo tooi basho / A place further than the universe" in a sense that it does very much using very little. Everything feels natural which makes it possible to immerse yourself in the story completely.

Sound 8/10

As is the case with animation, the sound doesn't really stand out on it's own with some incredible OST, but it fits the scenes perfectly.

Character 10/10

While it's only 4 episodes in at the time of writing this, the characters already get some nice development. We start of with each of them having an overemphasized characteristic (unconfident one, way too serious one, impulsive one, open to everything, secretive one), and as the story progresses those traits remain, but other ones emerge as well and we get some depth of character. This makes sense since the age they are at is when the character forms the most in life and is most susceptible to change.

One more major plus is that there's no main character. Every character is handled with care and developed.

Enjoyment 10/10

So far I'm loving this series. By the end I might even give it an overall 10/10. The thing that really gets me hooked is that the scenarios are relatable and the story could very well be a real life one. While some aspects may be a little bit over the top (not spoiling but you'll figure it out if you watch), they are unlikely but far from impossible ones.

To conclude, this has the potential to be a masterpiece similar to Sora yori mo tooi basho by the end, and you should give it a try.

This review may contain some spoilers. Not anything major, but hard to give a decent review without mentioning some things, so read at your own risk. I'll try keeping them at minimum.

Story 7/10

The setting is a world with humans and vampire-like creatures (called "Oni" which means demon in Japanese) that look like humans but basically go crazy after seeing or drinking blood. Oni try to live their lives (well, most of them do) normaly without killing or drinking blood and are afraid of going crazy and hurting people. The MPD Public Safety Division 5 is in charge of handeling the Oni and investigations and the ... CCC (Chosen Civil Community) is an organization with the goal of exterminating Oni. The story revolves around a half-human-half-oni MPD investigator Yuuki Anzai and Tsukasa Taira - a human who he saved from an Oni. They fall in love and go through several moral dylemmas and tough situations together. While the story itself is interesting, the plot is rushed and this would have been a lot better if it were a 24 episode anime. There's lots of things left unexplained and I doubt we'll get another season considering the ending (not spoiling).

Art 9/10

The artstyle and animation are on point. Hard to find a bad remark about them. The dark colors work really well with this kind of setting.

Sound 8/10

The voice cast does a good job on this one, especially for the main character Yuuki Anzai. The deep and warm voice really suits him.

Nothing really special about the background music, but it fits the scenes well and keeps the dark atmosphere going.

Interesting opening and ending themes.


Character 7/10

Like I mentioned in the story section, this would have been a much better anime if it went on for 24 episodes. Lacking in character developement. Tsukasa falls in love with Anzai at first sight and follows him uncoditionally everywhere, even gets hurt because of him or to help/save him. There's no real reason for this nor is there enough time for their relationship to grow to such lengths. One might say it's just her character, but I'll go ahead and say it's just a lack of her character and rushed writting.

Character design is really cool though.

Having said all that, I really enjoyed this show, along with it's ups and downs. Not exceptional, but really good for me.

Maybe 8/10 is exagerated in terms of raw quality, but my overall rating is always influenced by how much I enjoyed the anime, so in terms of objective quality I'd say the rating should be around 6.5-7/10, but with enjoyment being 9/10 for me, I give it a 8/10 total.

A MASTERPIECE!

I won't write reviews for every movie, OVA, Magic File, special... separately, so this may turn out to be a long review. But then again, the anime has 905 episodes out as of writing this, so it's to be expected.

May contain some spoilers, but I'll try keeping it as clean as possible.

Story 10/10

The story is about a teenage detective Kudou Shinichi who happens to stumble upon an illegal transaction between two criminals from an unknown organisation. While he's prepairing to catch them in the crime, a third person knocks him out from behind and gives him an experimental drug. They all leave thinking ... the drug killed him, but it reverted him to a kid instead. While keeping all of his memories and detective reasoning, he solves crimes with the help of gadgets made by dr. Agasa and the "great detective" Mori Kogoro who is the father of his childhood friend Ran. Having reverted to his younger age he changes his name to Edogawa Conan and moves in with Ran and Kogoro. While the premise of such a drug is silly and fictional, the rest of the story is anythig but that. Cases are presented and solved in a methodical and argumented fashion. Real life situations and phylosophical standpoints are being questioned and more than often, there's no right answer to them, just different views of what's right. The main goal of the protagonist, besides catching criminals and solving random crimes, is to find out the truth of the Black Organisation (the one whose man gave him the drug) and find an antidote that will revert him to his normal age. The plot gets really complex as he finds out the FBI and CIA are also involved in the investigation, as well as other private detectives, and he can't tell his identity to anyone but a handfull of people. It's incredible how few plot-holes are made in this huge plot and how many steps ahead the author is thinking.

As a side note, I suggest watching Magic Kaito 1412 and Lupin the III as they appear in some of the specials (and are a lot of fun).

Art 10/10

Well, this is a hard section to review really. Since DC (Detective Conan) started airing in 1996, the animation went through a bunch of changes in character design, artstyle and quality (first few 100 episodes are 360px, now 1080px HD). Some remakes have been done and are now beautifully animated. I give it 10/10 for the current animation. Not movie quality, but when you consider it's an ongoing show since 1996 and all the side projects, I don't see how the quality could be better than this.

Sound 10/10

The voice cast is nothing short of outstanding. With so much characters and episodes it's really hard to find enough quality voice actors to make them stand out and this anime is doing a great job at it. Unfortunately some of the original cast had to be replaced (for example Kogoro's voice actor), but the changes (even though noticeable) did a splendid job replacing them.

All the background soundtracks are simple and memorable. They fit the scenes perfectly and the transition between them is smooth. Out of the 100+ openings and endings (yes, 47 opening and 56 ending thems as of writing this review) there are maybe 10 in total that don't stand out or are not memorable in some way. Not to mention all the great movie themes...


Character 10/10

All main characters have great developement. You get to the point where you can sympathize with them and relate to their problems and dilemmas. They all have complex emotions and character which is shown through all kinds of situations. The voice cast is also doing a great job capturing the feel of the moment and really makes them feel alive. Very few anime have this much character depth. This does not only apply to Mori, Ran and Conan/Shinichi, but to all of the main cast (police, kids, dr. Agasa, Sonoko, FBI, CIA, Black Organisation).



Enjoyment 10/10

Even though it has started getting kind of predictable at times, it's a great pleasure to watch the crimes and try to figure out the culprit. The worst thing about enjoying this show is catching up to it and waiting a week for the next episode.

A masterpiece in every regard. While it has lots of episodes, each case is it's own storry so you can watch it case by case without the need to binge it, which makes it a lot more practical to watch. So if you're having doubts weather it's worth it or not - don't. Just go watch it.

I'll talk about particular arcs and lots of stuff so who doesn't want to read it all, the short versions will be at the end of each paragraph.

Story 7/10

To start off, it picks up a few years after the Naruto Shippuden ending. If you are thinking of starting Boruto without watching Naruto first, I do think it's possible to somewhat follow, but you'll miss out on A LOT of stuff and information. Having said that, lets get through this arc by arc so far.

Arc 1: Academy Entrance ... Arc 7/10

The story follows Naruto's son Boruto, who doesn't want to be like his dad. The war has ended and the need for shinobi is declining. Technology has advanced a great deal. While Boruto is the main character, basically it's a show about the next generation of shinobi in Konoha. The emphasis is on the difference in the mentality of the older and new generation. While Naruto and his generation worked their asses off to get where they are and had to fight stronger opponents with their lives on the line, Boruto and his generation have much less motivation and determination to get to their goal. Unlike Naruto who was always alone as a kid, Boruto is always sorounded by friends and this first arc mainly focuses on getting to know them. Boruto hates Naruto for never being around and is trying to get him to spend more time with him. This goes on through the other arcs as well, so I won't go deeper in discussion over this.

Short: Getting to know the next generation of shinobi, Boruto hates Naruto, technology advanced, spoiled brats...

Arc 2: Sarada Uchiha Arc 8/10

This was a good arc. Sarada is aiming to become Hokage and wants to know about her father and the important stuff that happened in the past. We can see good character developement and a Sasuke that actually cares for his family and is willing to get hurt in order to protect them. Sakura is usefull - yeah, I said it! Forshadowing about some Otsutski stuff coming up. The annoying thing in this arc is Chocho who is searching for her dad as well (even though it's obvious to everyone it's Choji). She is getting in the way of everything and only thinking and talking about food.

Short: Badass Sasuke, badass Sarada, badass Sakura, fatass Chocho.

Arc 3: School Trip Arc 4/10

A trip to the Bloody Mist Village, even though it's not called that any more. A really bad try at recreating the Haku & Zabuza fight from Naruto. Has the lame new 7 swordsman of the mist who can't even win against kids who are not even ninja yet! Bad character developement and overall a mess. They should have just skipped this arc.

Short: If you skip this, you won't miss a damn thing.

Arc 4: Graduation Exams Arc 5/10

A short 4-episode arc about the lack of motivation to become a ninja from the new generation kids. Again, not particularly bad, but not particularly necessary. It's short so I guess it's ok.

Arc 5: Genin Mission Arc 8/10

Finally some good stuff. The formation of teams and the first mission of the new team 7. We get to see an older Konohamaru and badass is the first thing that comes to mind.

Arc 6: Byakuya Gang Arc 3/10

Small character developement for Shikadai. Otherwise unnecessary.

Arc 7: Chūnin Exams Arc 7/10

As of writing this review, the ongoing arc. Introduction of a few new characters and some interesting stuff going on. Ninja tech tools are making a big difference and it's a good introduction to them because they are going to be a key point in the rest of the anime. The fights are really not special by any means and they fade in comparison to Naruto fights, but the new Otsuski invasion is interesting and is clearly a bit different from the movie version.

Short: Starting to get interesting, plot moving.


Art 8/10

Good character desing and decent quality animation. Key moments really well animated.

Sound 7/10

Modernised soundtracks somewhat fitting of the anime and setting, but not nearly as epic and memorable as Naruto soundtracks.

Character 7/10

The characters are really mostly just a copy from their parents, with minor changes to their characters and design. (Everyone but Shikadai, he is just a complete copy of Shikamaru. But everyone loves Shikamaru so I don't really mind that.) Overall a 6/10, Mitsuki +1, Sarada +1, Chocho -1 -> Total = 7/10

Enjoyment 8/10

Even though it has some faults and needs work, I still love the show.

Overall 7.5/10

Really indecisive between 7/10 and 8/10. If it keeps going well I wouln't ming giving it 8/10.

If you haven't watched the first two seasons - GO WATCH THEM NOW!
This season picked up where the last one ended, and did so magnificently. The League of Villains is on the move, big-time! One For All appears, Nomu mistery is cleared, BIG news for All Might, and much more going on.

The soundtrack is on point. Emotional and epic when needed. Makes the scenes stand out that much more.

New characters introduced. Major character developement for all the UA students, parents, teachers, villains. Yeah, basically everyone. Finally you can see the motivation and past stories of many characters.

THE best thing this season and in a while. And this season has The Seven Deadly Sins, Stains;Gate 0, Shokugeki No Souma, Megalo Box, Hitori No Shita and lots of other stuff, so not an easy thing to do!

Overall 10/10

With this season I'd put Boku no Hero Academia on pair with Naruto and Bleach. I can't imagine any way to make it more epic than it is now, so I'm really looking forward to seeing where they are going from here.

UA sports festival = The chunin exams from Naruto. In a good way. Lots of character developement (not only main character), introduction of the villains. Deku learns how to control his quirk more efficiently. A lot of crazy stuff going on, but the pacing is doing wonders.

Outstanding animation and consistent art-style through the whole anime. A pleasure to watch.

Decided today that it's a good time to start writting reviews, and this seems like a great starting point. If anyone still hasn't given this show a try they don't know what they are missing. This review may contain small spoilers.

Story 8/10

The story is a typical shounen one. Main character struggles to become a hero even though he doesn't have super powers (or quirks as they call them here), while almost everyone around him has them. The hero he idolises gives him a quirk but he has to learn to control it. We follow him through his jurney of becoming a hero. While the story ... is simple and stereotypical, it's written in a really good way and there are very few plot holes involved.

Great opening and ending themes. The tunes fit perfectly over the scenes and emphasise the right feel of the moment.

Character 8/10

Very good character introduction, but slow developement. Some characters may appear as too one-dimentional in terms of character. This is however, well resolved in the following seasons. If we take them in account, overall character developement would be 10/10.

Enjoyment 10/10

Action packed scenes and quality commedy keep you wanting to watch more. Great balance between serious and comical moments.

One of the best shounen out there and I belive everyone should give this one a try. If the first season doesn't do it for you, the second and third one will, I assure you 100%.
