I watch anime for the characters, action, interesting concepts, and jpop. Usually my higher rated animes will include one or more of those. Fanservice/Ecchi rates low on my list, but it can be done without bothering me too much - Bakemonogatari, No Game No Life. Symbolism is usually annoying - some people soak it up and think it meaningful - it's lazy and boring.
My goal is to find shows that have a different perspective or twist on shows. A run of the mill Harem is boring, but Nisekoi passes the bar because it has a solid twist on the genre, and CHARACTERS GET CHARACTERIZATION. And plus, the girl you know he's going to end up with is shown to be good for him.
The number of shows I watch a year is normally 2-4. Shows that I love tend to "murder my feels" which is hard to do even at a monthly pace. Plus I'm not a "watch while doing something else" type of person. The show has to be good enough for me to devote 100% of my attention to it.
Anyways... If you ever want to discuss something feel free to leave a comment or drop me a PM.
