based psycho pass review rip
NekoMikoBismarck Jan 24, 2022 2:54 PM
That Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate review is right on the money, awful piece of media.

@HandsomeMan
Since you disabled comments, I will have to respond to you here. Not that it matters after being offline for so long, but whatever, I have to get rid of sth real quick:

"[...] you're the one who rates things purely based on enjoyment"

That´s so funny, because that seems to be exactly the same thing you do or what does the passage "I don´t rate anime "professionally", I rate it completely based on personal enjoyment." mean exactly to you? Somebody help me, cause if this was supposed to be satire, it went completely over my head. Was this just a bait? How do you manage to completely contradict yourself with your banner quote prominentley featured on your front page?

"Even if you didn't like the concepts, the story and the characters, anime have other qualities about them such as production, animation and music."

First of all, the segment "production" already encompasses animation and music. Secondly, in a best case scenario the audio-visual aspect of any anime is there to enhance the story, not the other way around. Of course that is not always the case, eye and ear candy can greatly greatly enhance your enjoyment in the anime. But a nice-sounding and good-looking piece of shit is still that, a piece of shit without any substance. Might as well just watch trailers all day.

"[...] but that anime has an awfully slow pace, very outdated animation and just a lot of boring talk."

No idea about the first and third point, but what the hell do you mean with "outdated animation"? No fucking shit it´s outdated, even at the time you wrote this some of these movies were already 20 years old! Next thing you´re gonna tell me A Link to the Past is outdated cause it is in 2D and not 3D. 20 years in the future, are you gonna say the same shit about some of your most favourite shows as well? What a tool. For somebody to call out another person as "possibly the worst reviewer on MAL", you sure are a hot contender for that position yourself.

And of course you have to be one of those people to invent your own rating system when we already have a perfectly suitable one here.

"11/10 Legendary" - Really? Was "Masterpiece" just not good enough for you?

"8/10 Great anime. Above average." - No shit, anything above a 5 is "above average".

"5 - Below average, most likely dropped." - Mate, 5/10 literally means average, why would you just spin it another way like that?

It´s because of people like you that nobody can actually take the weighted score seriously anymore. Good riddance.

I like your Psycho pass review

Real great Psychopass review, I feel exact the same, it pretty over hyped
luciojb Apr 9, 2019 6:09 PM
In Psychopass there are some logical faults, and some things that i disagree with in your review. BUT, the main message was clearly understood and I personally agree with some of your thoughts of the show. I liked your way of writing very much too, besides some flaws, it made me read it entirely (i roughly read the entire text in reviews). Thanks, bye!
bigfrog22 Mar 24, 2019 8:58 PM
i hope you can one day go back and retake a look at psychopass so you can understand re-evaluate the series because your review showed you put no effort into actual critical thinking. "why would shoot an innocent rape victim" because being tramatized has increased her likelyhood of committing a crime and the entire situation was inserted to showcase that flaw of the system. "Why is being passionate about something likely to make you a criminal?" because when you are passionate about something you become willing to do anything to achieve your passion. look at almost every millionaire and you will notice that they have ruined multiple lives. "Why does such an oppressive system exist in the first place?" to reduce fucking crimes its really not that hard to figure out. "Your guess is as good as mine" no my "guess" isn't as good as yours because i put basic effort into thinking up solutions instead of hating it because it didn't blatantly spit out answers to me.

Yo! Alive? :P
HandsomeMan Nov 5, 2014 6:15 AM
I'm not bothering with constructive feedback because you're the one who rates things purely based on enjoyment.

Just by looking at your 2 latests reviews, you rate Aldnoa.Zero a 2 and PP a 3. It's obvious you're not properly reviewing them. Even if you didn't like the concepts, the story and the characters, anime have other qualities about them such as production, animation and music. Both of these shows score at the very least decently in those categories, but realisitically speaking they score much higher.

You give all those Ghost in the Shell scores of 10. Now the story might intrigue you or you might like the main character as seen in your profile picture, but that anime has an awfully slow pace, very outdated animation and just a lot of boring talk.

Now, it's obvious that people are allowed to have different tastes, but when one gives shows such undeserving scores, it is seems appropriate to label the reviewer as "the worst one on MAL".

Enjoy.

Possibly the worst reviewer on MAL.

You rate to the extremes. Thats nice.

Kids are always annoying when they arent your own. :P You'd be surprised how much shit you will put up with when they are spawned from your loins. heh My kids are pretty well behaved, my daughter is and she helps me alot. My son is a bit too young to get in any serious trouble yet. Its mostly now just keeping an eye on him and making sure he doesnt go off somwehere hes not supposed to. But I got the house pretty much toddler proof by now I am an early riser so I usually get that time to myself to do the things I want to when everyone is still asleep.

Shoulder problems. I had three surgeries since 2002 to fix a problem but ended up needing a complete shoulder replacement which took about 18 months to fully recover from.

I liked Shana as a character. but then I am very fond of tsundere characters too. Loli's dont bother me, for one they arent real girls so I find it very difficult for me to get worked up or outraged by them being objectified. Then I guess I am a bit of a real life loli too lol. I barely stand over 5 ft with my shoes on so I guess I have a bit of an affinity for those petite characters.

For you to enjoy something like Shana you have to go into it with a certain mindset. Not to take it too seriously and just enjoy where it takes you. The first season is still great I think, even if it bogs down a bit in the middle and Yuigi because an bit of insufferable whiner and way to indecisive about anything important. The second season has a great payoff at the end but is dragged down by more than half of it being too slice of life teenage melodramatic. It got on my nerves, especially the 2nd time I watched it earlier this year.

+ Shana, Wilhelmina, Margarey and the banter with their deities (esp Marco), great magical action and combat, top notch visual effects, mostly coherent story (early on), good character development, has some pretty powerful and emotional scenes like when the torches burn out or are consumed.

- Yuigi is a bit plain and lifeless as a lead even for anime, romance triangle drags on too long, too many inconsistencies with the plot and holes in the story later on

Maybe I should have given you that to start off with but I was having a hard time really putting it into words when you first asked.

Strike up debates about peoples favorites is like walking through a minefield hehe. You might make it through unscathed or you might lose both legs. I do like discussing anime but I have had to many negative experiences to do it very often with people who aren't friends. So I am usually pretty hesitant and a tad defensive depending on how people approach me.

Um, reviews. I used to write alot of them. I have hundreds, I think. I reviewed mostly alot of lesser known stuff as I tend to stay away from stuff that is really popular because of the reaction it gets when I dont like it, like Nisemonogatari. My reviews tend to be pretty snarky and sarcastic too which doesnt always endear itself to everyone. I had fun writing them, I would like to write more but I have found it hard getting myself motivated enough to do it and I just dont have that much time anymore.
Skadi Aug 10, 2013 8:07 AM
Maybe I misunderstood then. I have often gotten comments like these and when I "explain" it it devolves into an attack on how much that person thinks anime x sucks and what the hell am I thinking. So I apologize for misunderstanding your intention.

I wasnt clear enough obviously. What I mean is, I have always like fantasy stories. Shana was unique in that it was contemporary fantasy, set in modern times. I hadnt seen anything like that before. It had a interesting story that as an adult I enjoyed following. Keeping in mind that most anime I had seen up till then had been episodic or silly or stuff from my youth that didnt hold up as an adult. I enjoyed the magic battles which I hadnt seen done this way before. In other words I just really liked it alot. Though I wonder now if I would have liked it as much now. Who knows.

Well I can agree with roriconfan on the quality of most of the reviews on this site. And I would probably agree with alot of what he says and his taste in anime. However its not any of his business what other peoples tastes are and he goes about it in totally the wrong way. He is being a jerk and an asshole and comes across as a bully. Considering alot of these people he is so harsh on are still kids I think its even worse. Sure I facepalm at some of the reviews that get posted here but I just dont care enough to try to go on some kind of crusade against it. Its pointless anyway, its like a game of whack-a-mole, there is always another mole.

Actually you would be surprised how much anime you can watch when your sitting on your butt at home. :P I dont get as much time now that my kids are older and dont stay in one place when I put them down anymore. hehe Also I had several surgeries as well that put me out of action for a while too giving me lots of free time!
Skadi Aug 9, 2013 6:02 AM
If you didn't like it you didn't like it. What do you want me to say? Oh your right it sucks sorry about that I'll take it off my list. You want me to convince you why its good? Why? I don't care if you like it or not.

Would I like it as much seeing it now that I am older, more experienced with anime tropes and cliches? Probably not. I understand it has flaws but I liked it alot. It will always have a special place in my heart. Again, its my FAVORITE. I have seen dozens of anime I think are way better than it.

On roriconfan.. uh I dont care about why he comments on other peoples profiles. I think its classless, disrespectful, arrogant, and completely unnecessary. Why go around picking fights with people who dont share your tastes? Besides he goes about it in completely the wrong way anyway. Not that I think there is a right way, but it comes across as bullying and elitism. Its fine if you want to debate the technical points of something but there are better ways to do it.
Skadi Aug 7, 2013 2:43 PM
It was the first show that really got me interesting into anime. I like the genre, it had likable characters, good action, romantic melodrama, and initially an interesting story. Its my favorite because its my favorite. Not because I think its the best.
Orsonius Jul 10, 2013 1:55 AM
Yeah sure it is only about girls having tea parties. But the theme is girls doing music. It doesn't really mater if they actually do it in the end. Lucky Start had absolutely NO theme though.

I put masterpiece in quotes because I don‘t mean it like that. Masterpieces to me are shows that not only have each of their aspects to almost perfection but also last the test of time and stay relevant.

Yeah watching mindless shows is sometimes all you can do haha.

The series does it most likely better than the VN. It‘s rather fast paced and the jokes are pretty funny (I am mad scientisto, isso koore, sunovabitch!).
But yeah apparently you didn‘t like it. I did so what can I say haha.

A) I am not american/english native speaker. So to me english dubs are not better than watching it original (well even though my english is actually good!)
B) Because of that I did not grew up with english dubs and thus have no emotional connection to it or know any of the voice actors.
C) German dubs suck ass.
D) English dubs suck ass as well (not as much as german though)
E) I think a medium should be watched in its original form because a lot of meaning gets lost if you translated it.
F) I have not seen many english dubs, the only ones I have were: Lucky Star, Death Note, Claymore, Baccano.
That‘s it.
G) I like japanese and like to listen to it
H) I think the japanese voice actors are much more talented than the english or other ones.
I) When americans say japanese names/words it sounds stupid.
J) American dubs sound cheesy and to ´murrican

„im waiting to see if funimation's gonna bring back mcglynn as kusanagi for the dub. i liked her performance in SAC. „

I don‘t really know about funimation, I don‘t know who Mcglynn is haha.

Not sure, I forgot most of the score in SAC. The opening is amazing though!

„from what i remember of it, mardock scramble is more of a character driven story. the sci-fi elements were there to facilitate better character exploration. this is the exact opposite of the GITS movie. „

I agree. The characters were much more human than in Gits. But it was also a bit over the top. Also they kinda forced to be dark and edgy „oh I don‘t know what love is, all I know is rape and abuse“. The whole rape thing was a bit too much after a while.

Yeah the main girl was terrible, but I had no big feeling for any of the other ones. I think VN are not good source materials for anime. There are not many VN that are good. You play them if you are an otaku and like crappy writing just for some emotional kick or wish fulfillment.

I gave school days a 3 and really liked it. But was just really bad overall. It looked bad, it sounded bad and the characters were bad. Still it had some charm.

Exactly his character is consistent and everything feels rearlistic. He was a real idiot (hontou baka!) in that sense.
Rewtaching NGE is really hard now, because it aged a lot. The movie is still great but the series... urgh.

I have a first impression chart on my profile. Instead of rewriting it I point you to it. I pretty much cover all the anime I watched so far (with 2 exceptions) read it if you like and tell me your thoughts then :)
It’s time to ditch the text file.
