Sorry to intrude.
I partly have to agree with @Krunchyman.
Anime, back in the days required a lot more resources, rather than some computer programs.
So i believe it is fair to compare it with today's shows.

Regardless, dude hasn't seen shit to judge a mecha show for what it is.

I intentionally chose two anime from the late 80’s to early 90’s to highlight the broader shift from where the industry was, to where it is today. While Japan has ramped up its production of the quantity of anime the consumer receives, it neglects the overall quality of the product, itself. Shows in the 90’s (LotGH, Berserk, NGE, Cowboy Bebop, GitS, Lain, Utena) offered unique perspectives on the human condition, and developed characters who’s actions were, more or less, human. By doing so, their actions/motives fit logically in the context of the story, and, in many cases, drove the story itself, making the experience feel organic, rather than feeling forced through various plot devices.

Nowadays, characters are not really characters, they are tropes to appease the anime consumer. Why, you may ask? Because the anime industry is struggling, due to the prevalence of online piracy. Therefore, to cope with this growing problem, anime studios have shifted from their focus (much like the WWE) to a younger demographic, to capitalize on the sale of merchandise. Dragon Ball Super, for example, wasn’t even a show at all, as each transformation was a ploy for viewers to buy more useless merchandise.

Animation is improving, that is to be sure, but it is simply a cosmetic flourish that detracts viewers from the numerous faults that lie elsewhere.

Hopefully, that answers your question.

After rereading Monster Musume, I think I like Suu (loli Suu ofc) way more than Papi, who I liked during my first read.

It's not everyday that I check someone's favorite list and notice that I've seen all of their favorite anime.

Making this a spoiler tag and deleting your last comment since I don't want a massive text blurb on mine or your pages

Oh yes, that's another thing I thought about in the past, having something like two rather positive and two rather negative reviews on each anime's page. Every show has its merits and weaknesses, and only ever reading about only one of those is not the purpose of a helpful review section.
As it is now though, choosing anime only based on MAL reviews is not fruitful.

Asanagi wouldn't make his waifu a Victim Girl, would he? :thinkang:
Xiaraith Jun 20, 2017 3:49 PM
Downvotes got removed because a few trolls misused them a lot, creating several fake accounts in order to go on downvote raids against certain users.
Lots of MAL users are lazy, and instead of giving feedback in form of several sentences on a reviewer's profile (which would be optimal), most just want to vote and move on. Nowadays, what does having 5 upvotes on a review after a few days tell me? Almost nothing. Whereas in the past, getting something like 12/22 helpful votes at least gave me a percentage to work with. Absolute numbers are strongly influenced by popularity and time of publish after all.
Also, one aspect that many people didn't and probably still don't understand: up- and downvoting is not supposed to express if you agree with the rating. Giving low scores on a review of a popular anime for example can make it very difficult, even though the actual reviews might be very well written and thought-out and deserve a top spot.
