You should finish Valkyrie Drive, it seems like something you would really enjoy. Mirei is life, lol.

Wow, that's pretty pretentious on that guy's part. I'm not that experienced in foreign films myself, although I did take a class on Asian cinema back when I was an undergrad. A lot of the films we watched weren't exactly my cup of tea, but some of them were really beautiful. I have a feeling this "film enthusiast" you know probably isn't even a big movie guy. Most film enthusiasts enjoy stuff that isn't big budget Hollywood films, so that makes me question that guy's view on foreign movies, lol.

My favorite ecchi? That's hard, but it's a tie between Sekirei and Highschool of the Dead. Keijo was a lot of fun too. What would you say is your favorite ecchi anime?

Thanks, happy new year to you too!

Thanks dude, happy holidays to you as well!

Since you might not get back to me right away, I guess I'll finally respond to your older comment lol.

Have you seen Valkyrie Drive? That's another one of those "borderline hentai" series and it's pretty crazy, lol. Might be something you would like.

I mean, I like watching movies too, whether its live-action or anime. I'm no film expert, but I wouldn't mind watching a movie that wasn't something I would usually watch. I just wish some "film enthusiasts" like my friend would try to be a little more open-minded and try out an anime film. Hell, knowing the stuff he likes, he might be into something like Ghost in the Shell, Colorful, or Paprika. However, because its anime and he has this weird bias against it, he won't give movies like those a fair chance. Ah well, his loss.

Hellsing Ultimate was a lot of fun, but it was just lacking that "cool" nature that the original anime had. Like you said, the music helped set the tone.

Thanks for the rec, I'll be sure to check out some of Nagashima Chosuke's work.

Hey, sorry that I'm taking so long to respond to your last message. I'll try to get to it over the weekend if I can.

You're welcome!

Yeah, I get what you mean, I don't mind anime or manga that have a lot of gore. I mean I loved stuff like Berserk and Hellsing Ultimate, even Genocyber was pretty fun to watch. But then you have guro, which I have no plans to ever check out in the future lol.

Have you seen the ecchi Seven Deadly Sins series? I gotta check it out still.

Yup, I know what you mean. I have a friend who can be like that at times, only he sometimes doesn't want to watch a series that he thinks is too "old" or not "exciting" enough. He does try to give certain things a chance and I think that's great, but there are times where he seems to really only get into series that are battle shounens or comedy anime, especially if its a series that is currently airing. It just sucks because I've tried to get him to watch stuff like Mushishi, Hellsing, and Bokurano, but he wouldn't always give them the chance. I've had better luck by showing him clips of series that I think he would like and usually we find shows that we both enjoy. He's better than my other friend who is a big movie fan (as in art films), but refuses to watch anime-related because he just assumes he won't like it. Meanwhile, he watched the live-action Ghost in the Shell and Death Note films and hated them. Now he doesn't want to check out their source materials because he thinks that they can't be any good if the adaptations weren't good. So yeah, I know exactly how you feel, lol.

You know, after giving it some thought, I really think the original Hellsing was a bit better than Ultimate. I loved Ultimate, but it sort of lacked that "cool" vibe the TV version had. Ultimate's craziness was a ton of fun to watch, but the original just felt so much more low-key that it made it feel really badass. I love both versions, just that the original version had a little bit more style to it.

First off, happy birthday!

The older Vampire Hunter D is more gory than the newer version? I'm kinda shocked to hear that, I figured it would be the other way around. Funnily enough, I once saw an old 90s promo from Cartoon Network, where they aired the original Vampire Hunter D film. Wonder how much it was censored since it aired before Adult Swim was even invented (not sure if you have Adult Swim where you live, but Vampire Hunter D seems more like a film that would air on there than daytime Cartoon Network).

I think the ecchi series isn't even connected to the shounen one, in fact I thought that they weren't even written by the same guy. Of course, when I said that Seven Deadly Sins is on Netflix, I was referring to the shounen series not the ecchi one, lol.

So your friends don't like anime that have a lot of Japanese themes or motifs? That's interesting, since I always figured that most anime fans would be know that most anime won't be geared towards a Western audience. What kind of shows do they like? I'm guessing they really prefer Westernized shows like Cowboy Bebop.

I still haven't watched any version of Vampire Hunter D...but I really should watch one of them. The 2000 version looks really cool, I might watch that one first. How does the older version compare to the 2000 version?

Seven Deadly Sins looks like a lot of fun, I think they have it on Netflix. Haha, I don't usually watch ecchi anime for depth, but I don't mind if a series does make you think. Yeah, it is true that you can't really recommend people anime like that if they're new to the medium, but maybe they would be willing to try after watching other shows that don't have that kind of stuff.

Great, I'm glad to hear things have been going well for you.

Ah, I haven't bought manga in such a long time. That's mainly because I rarely read manga, I always preferred anime. Sucks that there isn't much variety in terms of manga where you're from. The manga market in the United States always seems to be pretty diverse, at least from what I've seen.

Have you been watching anything good recently? Anything that you would recommend? I've been a little behind in my anime watching schedule, but I'm still trying to make time for it, haha.
