The fact that the main duo are the one chosing which actions they have to incur or not doesnt mean that the experiences have to be shallow or meaningless. What I mean by meaningless is that they dont present anything that makes a reflection of the presented problem, instead we just get Takemitchy being Takemitchy while weak action or humour happens. It is not about the situation that they are in but the execution of that situation that renders it pointless to watch. What I meant by moral debate is how much you are going to able to play with the childish and bone headed decisions that your enviroment is submerged into. Instead of doing that, Takemitchy is not just in a 14 years old body but also playing a 14 years old mind at the same time, that is why it is completely wasted, even if his trauma plays a role into it.
Yes, in my point of view the middle age gangs have inconsistent actions. There is no apparent purpose for them to exist but fighting and power, and at the same time the trouble that they provoke to the communities is almost disregarded by the outsiders until shit hit the fan.
What I meant by the "Being an engine" is what I said at first. Instead of facing the moral constraints of acting in such groups, and then with a deeper understanding of its mates bringing some change to his sorroundings, we are just in a loop of action and consequence. It could develop a more insteresting message if it used the time travelling tool right because we could see both from the 14 years old perspective and 26 years old perspective the motives and struggles of being in a violent gang. But then, we have no 26 years old perspective and the gang is badly portrayed because of its lack of relevancy

My problem with the time travel mechanic is that it is completely wasted in questionable quests to solve the problem in the future. How are they wasted? Because the only thing that is really happening through the time travels are shallow and meaningless experiences that exists just for the purpose of advancing the own story and introducing more drama and world. In this case, I think it is a wasted experience because there is an interesting moral issue with the whole premise of being an 26 years old in a child's game like a middle school gang. The issue then is that Takemitchy is not a 26 years old, and the middle school gangs are not middle school gangs. That makes both points completely redundant, and both the fact that Takemitchy is the one travelling through time and that he is participating in middle gang is just a circumstance to deliver drama and a certain aesthetic instead of being an engine to develop further in the characters situation. Takemitchy could be really well having someone else doing the time travel for him and telling him what to do, and the whole thing would be the same bar the unnecessary drama with the deaths
