No Guns Life

It’s honestly crazy how these shows are so similar and aired one season after the other but anyways: The protagonists of both shows have their heads turned into something strange and as a result they have amnesia. Kaiman from Dorohedoro has his head turned into a lizard head, and Juzo from No Guns Life has his head turned into a gun. Both main characters have female partners that are blonde. Kaiman has Nikaidou and Juzo has Mary. Both settings are also very similar in that they have these cyber punk, dirty, grungy, steamy land scapes.

Bungou Stray Dogs

This comparison applies to all seasons of JoJo and Stray Dogs. One of the main similarities that I noticed between two series is that their characters and the powers of these characters are based off of real people or groups and their works. JoJo names their characters and stands with well known bands and musical artists. JoJo also uses song names to name stand powers as well. Stray Dogs names their characters off of well known authors or writers. Their powers are named based off of the titles of some books they wrote. These shows are on point with their references and if your the kind who likes this sort of thing then you could enjoy these shows.

Shoumetsu Toshi

There’s really nothing similar about these anime. Settings and genres are very different. The only comparison I found was that both main heroines have a parent that they are trying to find. They don’t even know if they’re alive or dead. The missing parents of both characters left them a message that they were waiting for them in this place. Both anime are adventures leading to said place. Also, this place happens to be a very big hole in both anime’s. It’s up to a man/boy to take the woman/girl to the place where their parent is supposedly waiting for them.

5-toubun no Hanayome
add

Both anime are similar in the sense that they involve a guy trying to teach a group of trouble makers. Onizuka teaches an entire class while Uesugi is a student tutoring five girls who are quintuplets. Over the coarse of both shows, the students start off hating both of them, but gradually open up to Onizuka and Uesugi. It’s an uphill battle for these two to gain their students’ trust, but they win them over as the show progresses. If you’re into bonds between characters starting off weak, but getting stronger as time passes, you might like these shows.

Zombieland Saga
add

Zombieland Saga and Punchline both have ridiculous premises that have a nice blend of comedy and drama. Both shows can be pretty sad when it counts, and pretty hilarious. In terms is story, these shows are not similar, but it’s the uniqueness and absurdity of both the stories that makes them similar. Zombieland Saga is about girls from different time periods being resurrected as zombies to become idols for saving Saga prefecture. Punchline is about a main character who turns into a ghost, and if he sees panties, his nose bleeds, and the world blows up. Punchline also has a time loop thing going on. Both have a very clean art style and nice animation. They were also both made by studio MAPPA. I would say the over all styles of these shows are the most similar, and if you watched one, you would probably like the other.

Btooom!
add

Gantz and Btooom! both have people who are thrown into a survival game against their will. They are both psychological shows with lots of action, violence and gore. Both main characters were not the best people in their regular lives but through out the shows they start to develop and become better people and they become more strategic and used to the situation they’re in. The protagonists almost kind of look like each other as well. The people in the game have to use the weapons they are provided: bombs (bims) in Btooom! and high tech power suits in Gantz. The difference is in Gantz, the people have to fight against these aliens and in Btooom! the people fight each other.

Bokura no
add

Infinite Ryvius and Bokurano are both mecha anime that center around a group of children who are suddenly put in a dangerous situation where they have to survive and fend for them selves. They are both psychological and dive into the minds of these children and how the situations they are in take a toll on their mental state. Despite all these children being in the same boat, there is conflict and drama between them which sometimes makes their situation worse. The scale is different in these shows though. Infinite ryvius has hundreds or even thousands of kids stuck on a ship in space while Bokurano focuses on a small group of fifteen kids to pilot one big mecha.

Golden Kamuy
add

Both shows are historical seinens that depict violence in a similar and brutal way. Both can be comedic at times but serious and strategical when they need to be. They both can be highly exaggerated at times. Both shows also deal with war and different factions fighting against each other to reach some sort of goal. Both protagonists can be funny, but can turn into cold blooded killers at the flip of a switch. Both protagonists go through near death experiences but always survive to see another day. The difference is that Drifters is more of a fantasy with powers while Golden Kamuy is more grounded to reality.

Shigurui
add

Texhnolyze and Shigurui were both made by Studio Madhouse and share the same director. They are both psychological anime that have a very slow pace and some brutal violence. In Texhnolyze, Ichise loses an arm and a leg and in Shigurui, Fujiki loses his arm. The atmosphere, art style and color palettes are similar as well. Both shows can also have a lot of “show don’t tell moments” where there’s not that much dialogue. The settings in these shows are different though. Texhnolyze is a cyberpunk dystopia and Shigurui is historical with samurai. Overall, if you watched one of these shows and wanted something that felt similar, the other would be a good watch.
