Towards the end of Monster, probably after ep 65, the pace of the show suddenly escalated and I just had to keep watching in order to satiate my curiosity. Naoki Urasawa sure knows how to write a bewitchingly entrancing story. I've never seen something so fluid, so lucid, so subtle before, in terms of plot development and the presentation of literary themes.

I hope you enjoy it man. Discuss it with me after you've watched it

Oh I've updated my analysis of Johan. You can read it at your own convenience man :D

Hey, whatever floats your boat. Personally I think classical philosophy is very inspiring... It might just be me, but every time I read a cool philosophical idea I feel like writing a story around it. Idk, it's probably not very relatable but somehow it always happens to me.

If I had watched Monster 3 years ago, I wouldn't have understood the literary subtlety of the parable. The fact that having a name is a necessary prerequisite in the justification of Johan's existence evidently shows how meaningless the universe is to him - which is why he only desires destruction of the highest order, because life itself is vacuous.

You're absolutely right. I think both our points are well-justified because Johan is one of the most complex characters in anime history, and there are bound to be contrasting interpretations of him, depending on the viewer/audience.

Yeah apparently he has a destructive alter ego that saves him in dire situations. He called it The Magnificent Steiner, if I recall correctly

To me, Code Geass is one of the best shows ever created. Its plot is consistent, its characters are multi-faceted, and there are also subtle themes embedded within the seemless storytelling. I highly recommend it. There will always be people who'd chastise a movie, a tv series, or an anime show because it isn't "to their liking". Their opinions are filled with irrational emotions and biased thinking; they'd always watch something with a preconceived notion in mind and jump to conclusions as soon as something doesn't go their way. These viewers are completely subjective, and it's best if you avoid letting these prejudiced thoughts infest your mind.

I agree with the lack of identity part. Have you seen my analysis of Johan's psychology? I posted the GDoc on my profile here. The picture book parable made me think in depth about Johan's character. I think Johan is also conflicted at heart, because a part of him is trying to resist those nihilistic urges to destroy, but the majority of his soul has already been consumed by his inner abyss - his inner monster.

Mr. Grimmer is so optimistic though. He embodies optimistic nihilism, and you can see it in this quote of his: "In the end, the only one you can trust is yourself. The last thing you can believe in, is you yourself."

So man I started watching Monster, and I just passed the halfway line

Johan is a real monster I won't lie. He's even more terrifying than Makishima

I think it is because everyone has something at stake in politics, it's hard to have a neutral and impartial philosophical discussion about them.

Btw since you seem into philosophy, have you tried watching a channel called PhilosophyTube? Although his newer videos do discuss politics sometimes, it's generally by inspecting them through a philosophical framework, which I find rather interesting even if not necessarily impartial.

This is a totally random question, but how come you like debates and philosophy but not politics? Isn't politics essentially one long debate about how to govern?

I'm sorry I haven't replied! Our computer has been broken for awhile now & I never see comments on the app. I hope you have been doing well :^)

yes, a lot of my holds are from 5 years ago. I just get distracted bc so many things to watch lol. I hope your studying has been going well n.n

I mean you can relate bc you were still a diehard fan of another show growing up :) roleplaying was so much fun. Those were such good days! c:

I will definitely have to check both of those out the. Thank you for the recommendations :]

How about you?

I see, the likes of Hempel's raven or Devil's proof are also sometimes used in law(for arguments), but I understand what you are saying.

I feel like this guy really likes math

Why, because of those logical debates in umineko?
AC9123 Feb 1, 9:15 AM
Well, that makes sense. Some people prefer story and plot over anything else, so one episode stand alone collections aren't the best.
For me, I just see if I like the characters, universe, and sometimes the plot.

I guess different rating systems will affect that as well.
I read the summary on that and it looks promising. I'll probably use it for the Anime Watching Challenge. Maybe "popularity under #700" or something.
AC9123 Jan 31, 11:46 PM
Hmm I think we have a very different anime liking whatever anime preference. Everything I like is like rated ≤5 and all that.
So, of course, I'm going to check your anime list and see what i can watch XD
