My VNDB list.
If I was to describe my favorite kind of series, it would be summed up as I like stories that validate emotion. Stories that are true to themselves and their audience, that genuinely believe in the right to feel happy, sad, angry, anything really, over anything. Stories that are fundamentally empathetic. They don't need to be realistic on a grounded level to work as long as the emotion feels honest. Thematic threads and grandly wrought plots are wonderful, but heart is what really matters.
Rating System:
1-3: Things I spitefully despise or rate low for the memes. Probably nothing I manage to finish would seriously earn these scores in a comparative value sense.
4: Bad. No reason to ever watch these other than popularity or commitment to finishing a series because they're actively unfun. Alternatively they're a glorious burning dumpster fire.
5: These range from boring to enjoyable in spite or because of serious issues, but all without doubt are "watchable".
6: It met the standard of "I am positive about this thing". Basically the default "I liked it" bucket without any kind of strong feelings on it.
7: Something I like that met some arbitrary bar to get me to think "this is a good thing". Probably pretty good.
8: These are really good things. I wish more people would watch all these because they're all really good at what they're doing be it conveying a real sense of fun, a gripping story, or having a truly lovable cast of characters.
9: The bestest things. They're all fantastic experiences I loved and want to share with other people.
10: My favorites things. I'm thankful I got to experience these stories and hope everyone else will get something close to what I got out of them.
