Yet it wasn't rated until I saw the first episode. And even then I didn't give it a 10/10 straight until episode 4 ;9

Yeah, I never got this affinity system. It's quite weird

Well I didn't get that this is a sequel so that was kinda my fault. However I rated Violet Evergarden that high AFTER watching at least the first episode and having read the original source (up to the point to which is was translated by that time)

I started out with a fairly standard 10-point system (0.5, 1.0, ..., 4.5, 5.0), experimented for some time with an extended 30-point scale (0.50, 0.67, ..., 4.83, 5.00 - actually 28, excluding "0.33" and "5.17") and right now I'm using a 46-point one for music and TV shows (0.5, 0.6, ..., 4.9, 5.0). I'm still using the first scale for cinema.

The one I'm using for anime seems to be a variation of that 30-point scale, with some minor differences. It is also shifted down from the "real score" I've given to the shows in my spreadsheet - it was either that or having pretty only "positive" scores in my profile. For instance, my lowest ranked TV anime at the moment, with "3∙", is actually a 2.5/5 in my objective scoring. It's because I still haven't seen an anime where not even the art or some of the characters couldn't absolutely be saved, so those ratings tend not to be so low - I'm saving them for Hametsu no Mars-tier stuff. I'm also very positive about media, in general, so there's that too. However, I believe that my current "corrected" MAL rating curve is looking nice enough.

That thing you said about perfect shows can be dealt with in two ways... the one where not even your favorite show ever is a 10 and you pick out every flaw you can possibly spot seems more difficult to maintain but also makes the scale look more trustworthy ("merciless rating" - not even near perfect shows are exempt from flaws, of course...). I, on other hand, think that the concept of an absolute 10 - something utterly flawless and otherworldly made by another human - is a bit scary to imagine. My favorite art isn't perfect from start to finish, but maybe calling the "not perfect" moments "flaws" is unfair. That's why I'm willing to overlook such moments if the rest of the work is so good it dissolves those small flaws and hand out 10s every now and then.

Well, sorry for taking too long to reply. It's not even a good response, but I tried...

Thanks, pal. Your scoring system is really amazing too. I know it takes a lot to maintain a complex rating system. I try to keep mine as simple as possible, but even then, I struggle with my scores sometimes...
