Once again finishing another chapter of this franchise based on a children's card game, and now I see unfortunately that what they say is really true, this is by far the weakest of all. He starts with great potential, so great that I was thinking he would be my favorite, but he falls to the ground in the second half. The history of the universes and the yuyas and yuzus are very thought provoking and open up room for various fan services, being worked on very slowly in the first part, but it just stays at that just in the promise of delivering something

great as the story is saying it will tell, the background of the dimensional war is interesting because they make the fusionists, literal Nazis for apparently wanting to extinguish other peoples but even that is lost when the villain's justification convinces everyone to forgive him. The big downfall of the anime takes place in the second half, while the 1st arc is the introduction, the second should be the development, which is null in this part, no one interacts with anyone between duels, the rivalry has to be created in a forced way and then resolved quickly because they can't talk to each other, the characters end this arc as they started and it's not the anime saying that Yuya changed the others that in fact the process of this happening was shown, it just happens and we have to accept, his resolution to abolish all an oppressive system of a city based on bread and circuses is pathetic, even offensive, even more so in view of the better job that the 5DS did in this regard. About the final part, the revelations, are good since from the beginning clues were planted for this and generate great expectations for how the problem of the protagonist himself being the evil that will destroy everything will be proceeded, but like everything in this anime, this is bizarrely misused and all the preparation is thrown away when after the inevitable happens and everything goes up in the air, Zarc, the villain of the anime as a whole, takes 3 steps, stays in uninterrupted duels for 5 episodes and loses in a move with the ex cards -machina, at least it was the smiling universe card that helped give the jump which helps fill the anime with some meaning. The last 8 episodes are redundant, there was already the final catharsis and the message of the anime had been passed, there was no need to draw a plot from absolute nothing, meaningless, just to reinforce the idea of a smile. I believe that there were 8 episodes left and they didn't know how to fill it in and so they invented it, but if that were the case, it would just increase the time of the reborn Zarc problem that it already solved. A good aspect of the ending was a little, small, small feeling of loss since only Yuya and Yuzu are left, some sacrifices were really made, but you can only feel sorry for Kurosaki who lost his best friend and sister, the others fragments had zero relationships with other characters. In short, a gigantic loss of potential when you had a treasure trove of plot in your hands.
About the characters, Yuya is fascinating but is wasted, his conflict of bringing smiles in the middle of a multiversal war is one of the few touching things here, this added to the fact that he carries the devil inside him makes him the main character, but his "development" is horrible, he doesn't evolve, the anime basically says that he was always right and everyone was wrong about his positive view of everything and manages to make people change their minds just by dueling dryly, merely throwing cards in the wind, without having the hallmark that makes yugioh anime so great is the conflict of ideologies reflected during a match, he just duels, wins and changes people from being brainwashed by an oppressive system. Zarc has little influence on his dilemmas, I imagined that it would be an obstacle to the goal of making others smile but it does not have a real impact on Yuya's morality that generates any change, a regrettable pity. The other Yu-boys barely have screen time, with Yuto dying before the first arc ends, they were supposed to be the mainstay of this show, the directors lack of tact is unbelievable. Yuzu has a good development at the beginning but is forgotten as well as her counterparts and along with several other characters that exist to fill the show, without giving substance to the plot either in a practical or conceptual way, at least they put more women in the main group to duel. Which are worth mentioning, Sora is a good counterpoint until Yuya magically converts him, Shun is a really good character his search for his sister is really felt, Sawatari is a meme and period, Gongenzaka is a good support, Reiji is a bad Kaiba taken advantage of that only serves as a crutch for the story to move forward, the fanservices of the other series, apart from Jack who motivates the others, are disappointing, they do not add to the plot and occupy developments of other characters that need more time, at most Edo is good for having a relationship with Yuya's father but it is resolved so quickly that it was unnecessary, and not having brought the protagonists or even being mentioned is a fucking cowardice with the fans, if it was to do one that way that it didn't, why not others would have more space and the relationships between them would be more natural and acceptable, if you focused more on Zarc and Ray fragments it would be much more interesting. About the villains, Roger is forgotten, Zarc lasts 5 episodes but has his presence there, while Akaba father is controversial, his plan if successful would bring Zarc back causing the end of the world again so it doesn't make sense, like him motivated an invasion of other universes, why he was not punished after destroying XYZ and why he needed to invade instead of just going and looking for his daughter is unintelligible.
About the duels, they brought back all types of summons which is a very positive thing but almost all the matches are empty without soul or fun, they made the change from battle royale to suit the tag duels that would have made the inexplicable rule that everyone one team plays first and then the other plays and turns around to defend 3 players, this is done to speed up the battles but it generates the annoyance of several OTKs in a row against bushes and it is always the same move of placing an ace card that is difficult to summon to obliterate the evil team. When it's 1x1, it's basically the first turn, an ace card, and then you see who destroys the other's card in 99% of the duels, the play is always the same, Reiji takes 2 minutes to play his 3 special monsters, which can even skip his first turns without losing anything again, Yuya almost always plays the dragon first and keeps reviving it ad infinite and so on, until the most important duel, against Zarc, ends anticlimactically with Reira Ray entering the duel and giving an OTK, it wouldn't hurt to let an episode go on with just her trying to draw the cards to defeat the boss, which is very strange to happen since in Zexal the duels are very remarkable, including the last 3, which are one of the best in the franchise . Speaking of Yuya's deck, it reflects his personality well, in fact everyone in the anime has this in common, this Yugioh aspect doesn't miss, the dragons are beautiful to see, so we have a deck full of outstanding cards and even so the duels can't mark in memory compared to others in the franchise, that's bizarre.
There were 5 yugioh animes and they still haven't learned, everything about this anime indicates that they are trying to honor the series but at the same time they try to make critical changes in the structure to behave the plot and they don't get it right even having made other attempts before. Zarc is a more solidified supreme king but he lacks the same impact and influence on the protagonist as when Jaden had to change himself, mature because of this event, here it was just another bad day and even if he continued the same it did not provoke a even reflection on what happened, being able to observe Yuya reacting to his actions and reevaluating his actions even if he thinks it wasn't him, would be immensely interesting to see. The change in the city in 5DS is light years away from the one done here, there Yusei moves the population little by little jumping the bridge that symbolized the union, in Arc-V it is a rotten nonsense taken from the anus without size, I was offended as the anime treats the viewer here. In Zexal, despite finding it very bad, he knew how to make important duels, which almost does not exist here, except for one or the other, in addition to the fact that the same problem there appears here, the poor management of episodes, and in Zexal the plot actually begins with back from episode 100 making the rest a preparation for something simple and obvious besides that you have little time to work everything and you have to rush certain things, in Arc-V the plot is not so simple and it starts from the beginning to move, however, she is completely frozen, as well as her characters, and when she returns in episode 100, she has a lot to deal with and ends up running over herself and even reduces the participation of the final villain and brings an unnecessary epilogue.
In the technical part, the animation manages to deliver when it needs to, all Yuya's possessions by Zarc are chilling, and their songs are all very good, including the last opening is perhaps my favorite opening song of all anime.
The conclusion of the anime already made at the end of the fight against Zarc, Smile Universe clearly indicates the need for a smiling world (or universes) to prevent those who fell into "darkness" from returning and others from falling again. The theme of the anime is to bring smiles even in the worst places and conditions, a shame it didn't bring mine, but even so I don't regret having watched all these 148 episodes.
