There is a cute pet-mascot that guides the characters but, can end up acting suspiciously in both anime and Snow White is very similar to Madoka. If you liked one of them, you will probably like the other one, too, since they both are deconstructions of the Mahou Shoujo genre and have a similar theme.

Kusei, just like Shuuhei, is extremely good at the piano and has been through tough training to always play according to the score and achieve his goals, while Kaori is playing according to her feelings, just like Kai. Both anime follow the thoughts and the interactions between the characters as they try to understand and learn from each other. If you liked Piano no Mori, but seemed a little short, you will defenitely like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, which shows more of the characters' feelings and interactions.
