“Don’t tease me bro!” -(Dat forehead though)

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, or, Skilled Teaser Takagi-san as the gringos say, is an anime that I feel a lot of people are getting the wrong impression of. Takagi-san is an adaptation of the manga of the same name by Souichirou Yamamoto that also pays homage to characters from his previous manga, Ashita no Douyubi (Tomorrow’s Saturday). Takagi-san wasn’t necessarily a project that caught my eye given any one name attached to its credits, if I’m being honest here I didn’t even bother to read a premise. I’d go so far as to say it was a series that read more

“You wanted an opener? Sorry, I was too busy thinking about Hellshake Yano…” -(Fast and bulbous)

Poputepipikku, or, Pop Team Epic as the gringos say, is a...it’s a...well it’s a lot of things but I guess the easy out would be to say it’s an adaptation of the popular yonkoma by “Bukubu Ookawa” (try saying that 5 times fast). Watching Pop Team Epic is about as sophisticated as eating a day old slice of Domino’s pizza for breakfast. I’m sure that resonates with all of us in some form or another (I know it does with me). In a way, this series is a product of read more

“This is what you get when you mess with us.” -My DM’s

Cardcaptor Sakura, or, Cardcaptors...as the gringos say (they try not to remember that) is a 1998 adaptation of the manga of the same name by manga supergroup, Clamp. I don’t feel it’s necessary to harp on Clamp’s influence or catalog of over two dozen notable series, but it’s worth noting that CCS was arguably their first major hit, not that it has much bearing on this review. I try to keep an open mind when I watch something that I would typically consider out of my comfort zone. With that mindset, I tend to read more

“You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox and now, you’re selling it...” -(I really hate that man)

Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World - The Animated Series, or, Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World - The Animated Series as the gringos say (they don’t), is nothing short of one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve ever had to slog through, and I’ve graduated college. This contemporary adaptation of the light novels of the same name written by Keiichi Sigsawa read more

"If you flip the 10, it becomes a 01!" -Some Jerk

Let me preface this pre-review by saying this, I am in love with this series, but for all the wrong reasons. Black Clover, or, Black Clover as the gringos say, is the sophomore effort of mangaka Yuuki Tabata, and it is a far cry from his debut work, Hungry Joker. Hungry Joker had the unfortunate fate of being axed by the higher-ups at WSJ, thus is the fate of most new kids on the block who don't have a proper sense of what they are doing or are given little time to spread their wings. read more
