I'm curious since it was made by the guy who made Gurran Lagann and Kill la Kill (and also Dead Leaves, which I wasn't as big a fan of). Knowing those other shows and what I've read about this one, I have a decent idea of what can be expected, so I don't mind trying it out (though with a short leash if it deviates too far from what I'm expecting).
I couldn't really stand the blame-shifting and "society is evil" attitude from that season. Its a cop-out, and one that the writers have shown they don't need to stoop to. It was there in season 1 too (and One Punch Man for that matter, who has the same creator), but it was dealt with a lot better and more subtly.
Yup! Because I read your little blurb about it on your list, then saw it had an absurdly low rating, so my curiosity got the better of me.
But I was let down. It was only bad in all the conventional ways, and not at all enjoyable. From the way people seemed to talk about it, I thought I was going to see the Anime version of The Room, but instead, it was just boring.
I could see it go either way. If it keeps up the style of organizing everything into fun little vignettes, I can probably love it (one of my favorite shows is Teasing Master Takagi-San, and basically all that show is is fun little vignettes).
No lie, the first two episodes had me reeling. I knew the show had a good reputation, but all that narration, all that scheming, and all that annoying pomp from the main characters was awful. Thankfully, all that stuff mellowed down soon enough. I do love shows with a small enough cast that they can give proper attention to exploring all the ins and outs and nuances of every character's relationships. Coming off that terrible second season of Nisekoi, I really needed that...
...I'm tempted to get a free trial for Funimation so I can watch season 2, since the praise for it seems off the charts.
