Signed up to discuss and talk about anything and everything, but anime and manga is fine too :D
My ratings on anime, manga, music, and everything else that's judged in the world depend on only two thing. The merit of itself of its content and my opinion. I rarely judge something based on other works, which makes sense to do as a reviewer, but that just tends to make you a pessimistic asshole who rarely has anything good to say, unless the work is something exceptionally retarded, messed up, or psychologically frightening. I review things after watching most or all of the episodes. It just doesn't make sense to give something an overall rating on something that is not completed overall. (Makes sense doesn't it?)
A fan of parody, lighthearted, and warm anime, I mostly enjoy anything and everything ranging from gag animes to romance comedies. I tend to back off from the horror/mindfuck/dark animes, as I tend to see enough of that on any news magazine, newspaper, or online. Honestly, anime to me, is a very good excuse to just lay back and take a break from the occurrences of everyday life (don't you think?) and laugh at the miseries/fun/troubles/happiness/everything in between of characters that simply entertain you.
It seems to me that the trend nowadays is to watch something just because "everyone else watches it" and then as a means to try and grab some attention, they differentiate themselves from others by becoming, what we call "trolls". Making themselves waste their time, as well as other people's in an attempt at attention whoring, they seem to have become quite popular to do. It also seems today that more and more people are forgetting their lines of being an online leecher who goes to websites to watch anime, read manga, and all that good stuff, and pretending to be these high class reviewers who believe everything besides what they like, sucks. It's pathetic and it's the last thing this community needs. I hate to be the one that calls you a prick, but if nobody does it, I will. This isn't a place that should be for you to diss on other's likes and ignoring opinions. We are (or at least I am) here to discuss and indulge in our (or maybe just my) interests in these things called anime/manga. Please, even if you're anonymous and behind a computer screen, there's still your conscience that's always with you. And come on, we're supposed to enjoy anime/manga and are here to talk about it here, not piss others off. Before you spout something for attention because your parents ignored you as a child, stop and think. And so, if you aren't part of this mass wannabe individualists, then I applaud you :D. Just my little rant.
My grading scale is completely useless to anyone, due to the fact that I mostly enjoy all and any anime I finish through with, or care enough about to mark as completed. I usually only comment on what I like, merely dismissing the dislikes for the positives. Just who I am. As such, I mostly give out 8-10s.. Sorry, If you were searching for a serious critic in anime, not going to find it here.
10- Absolutely fantastic. It's so excellent that it takes me mental preparations to force myself to rewatch the epic anime again. Enjoyment isn't the word - I was captivated by it until the very last episode, then searched online for additional works about it. (ie. manga, light novel, wiki, etc)
9 - Excellent and very entertaining. Most of my scores are in the 9 as I see the work as very good and fun, but lacks the oomph. Don't know how else to put it. I'm enjoying what I'm watching, but I am aware of how far the anime is in. 9's make me feel sad when I am nearing the end of it because of not how captivating it was, but because of how fun the ride in was. In short, it kept making me come back for more.
8 - It was amusing and interesting, however lacks what the 9 has, something that makes the anime special. The anime was good to the extent that I wanted to watch more, but my interest wasn't as peaked in it as a 9 or 10 is. An 8 is something I wouldn't really bother to look up more information about or try to get some answers to my questions about it. If the anime answers the questions, great. If not, oh well. The feel of the anime is somewhat more superficial, it doesn't feel as though it is the best it can be. Although I've enjoyed the anime and watched all the episodes, it lacks my emotional attachment to the world for some reason and makes me feel somewhat apathetic about it ending. In short, I have the "meh" attitude to 8's.
From 8 down I don't really have a preference for rating. 7s are usually 8's that just lack more of what I feel could have been an 8. A 6 is something that I watched while I was waiting for the 8's and 9's to update. It peaked my interest enough that I watched it, but wasn't eye opening in anything I've watched before. I don't think I've given something below a 5, because, come on, am I that pathetic to piss off other's tastes in anime with my ignorant judgment of the anime/manga? If I don't like it, why bother finishing it and giving it a shit rating. I don't need the hate against or for the work created from my comments on it.
