WOW! What a garbage fire!
While I'm not the most articulate person in the world, I was compelled to write my first review ever, based solely on how terrible this show was. In the 25+ years I've been watching anime and of the 356 series (6033 episodes) I've completed, DevilMan CryBaby takes the cake for the biggest pile of shit I've ever forced myself to sit through.
If you can get past the animation that looks like middle school level sketch art, you'll be rewarded with a dumb nonsensical story full of the stupid, rushed, and utterly pointless character development. And the coup de grace, an ending
...
that nullifies any rhyme or reason the show tried to establish in its short pathetic 10 episode run.
It looked and played out like half-assed angsty middle school kid fan fiction from beginning to end. They knew they had no story to work with from the start, so they tried to capitalize off being controversial with gratuitous sex and violence and ended up falling short in every way conceivably possible.
***SPOILER ALERT***
The main character doesn't realize his friend his evil until episode 9, after his friend has already gone around firing machine guns at civilians, randomly stabbed people with a broken bottle at a party to invoke demons, possessed him with a demon, killed people that found out the main protagonist was DevilMan, killed half his track and field team and all their competition, started a world war, etc...
Miki's height changed about 100 times in 10 episodes. When she ran track she was a lanky grey alien looking mother fucker that stood 8 feet tall, when she was around any other character she was a dainty little girl shorter than anybody else. There was no line details, no proportional consistencies for anything (characters, landscapes, vanishing points). The transitions from keyframes to outsourced work was like night and day, making the whole show transition from bad to worse and back again.
Akira was not happy Ryou was stabbing people with a broken bottle which only woke more demons that killed more people. And then he turned into a demon himself and killed everything else in the room that was alive except Ryou. The next day the whole massacre was water under the bridge and Akira was totally adapted to having demonic powers, killing innocent people and demons the night before, and already learned to change forms at will.
Hundreds of people died in the party above... what happened to the bodies? Cleaning up a crime scene, and hiding the fact that 500-1000 people in a town have gone missing overnight are two entirely different cans of worms. There would have been countless missing person reports, hundreds of cell phones that could be traced to that location. And more problems then any number of demons in politics and law could sweep under the rug overnight. Not to mention, these parties are not intended to be demon orgies where all the humans die, this was an event Ryou triggered. Up until this point the demons used these to selectively eat a human or two in secrecy while maintaining a club scene that continuously brought in fresh prey. It was established from the start Ryou's motive was to expose demons to humanity, and your telling me a party turned into a human VS demon VS demon free for all resulting in everyone but 2 people walking away dead wasn't good enough?
Akira and Ryou want to expose demons to the world. So they kill a reporter who filmed them filming Akira killing demons, and then blew up the reporter's house to kill his mother so she wouldn't find out demons existed either.
Ryou awaking the demon in Akira leads to Akira having to kill his parents, but no hard feelings bro. Furthermore, the whole incident starts with a demon on a bus full of people, with most dying. Ryou films the whole thing again and it's still not suitable footage to expose demons? And again a missing tour bus, 30-40 missing people who would have been filmed at the bus station, expected at their destination, and all have cell phone records tracing their location would have been too much to sweep under the rug in a moments notice. Let's also not forget these "demons" are fully aware they're demons who need to be selective and secretive about who the prey on to avoid detection, and yet here's a retarded fuckwad killing in mass, on a multi-lane highway, in broad daylight, and it magically goes unnoticed? YEAH RIGHT!
Akira loses to 2 demons fused together (yet still wins *facepalm*) Now Akira and Ryou are in possession of the corpse of 2 demons fused together with a cunt full of Akira's demon cum..... still not enough to prove to the world demons exist though... *facepalm x infinity*
Everybody in the stadium knows Ryou woke the demon in Koda that killed half of Akira and Miki's teammates and every track member from every other school in Japan. Because Ryou acknowledges it arguing with Akira as it was all being broadcast and streamed live. Next day nobody cared he killed a few hundred people just to make a point.
90% of all the high school track runners in Japan are dead, demons are exposed to the world, people are being raped and gunned down in the streets, public suicides and vigilante-style executions everywhere... but the fucking kids still have school and track practice the next day.... what the actual fuck?
Countless random sex, death, and nudity scenes for no reason, literally no reason! The story was sparse, full of a million plot holes, and uninteresting as all hell. Then they draw out this atrocity of common sense even further with a bunch of crappily animated titty and gore scenes that don't progress the story or develop characters at all.
Funny how Ryou was born from the soil, lived in the jungle, caused countless deaths, was treated like a god, offered sacrifices, ate human hearts for breakfast, etc... but didn't know he was a demon or even remember he did that stuff until the end. (just for the convenience of shitty storytelling) Furthermore, all this took place in an African Jungle... and yet Ryou managed to fall into the ocean and wash up on the shores of Japan half the world away with amnesia (Again, just for the convenience of shitty storytelling).
I'm not even going to break down how pointless and stupid episodes 7-9 were, so I'm skipping to the end.
Ryou (Satan) loses Akira and feels sorrow for the first time, then God blows up the world and obliterates him... DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!!!! God could have left Satan to live alone in sadness on barren earth for all eternity without a human to eat as punishment, but instead, he kills Satan so he can be reincarnated again someday. And as we all know from the shit story, reincarnated demons don't exactly remember who they are or their past lives, so any lesson learned or punishment deserved gets nullified just so this stupid shit inevitably repeats again.
Moral of the story..... God is retarded? Because that's all I got out of watching DevilMan Crybaby.
