As one of the first of this season that I had started, I also decided to make it the first to complete. With this marking my 230th anime I've actually finished, I can say that as per usual - especially in this day and age - the basics are high quality. Music, ambience, world appearance, character designs, voice acting,.. There's two downsides only, really. The opening isn't the most catchy, which is fine.. but the pacing is a bit of a rollercoaster ride. The first 1-3 episodes were quite attention grabbing, but then it dwindled, with the last episode being another highlight point. Everything in
...
between is a steady up and down with lots of nice vibes, driving the plot forward little by little. As some others commented, it's a safe show.
If you'd like to watch an isekai but don't want too much drama, ecchi, etc, then this is definitely something to watch on stressful days when you just want to relax. However the pacing is, the characters are loveable and not the most common interpersonal relationship and dynamic wise. Not the greatest thing I've ever seen, not the worst of this season. In short, a show that may or may not get - but needs - a second season that I nonetheless leave without regrets. It's like a hug that goes on a little long but in the end you realize it left you feeling a little more warm inside.

This anime has stuck with me since it first aired. After watching over 200 others, that says a lot on its own.
If you watch this you'll likely end up questioning yourself, your friends or generally what person you are and how everyone around is or would be.. However, while I recommend watching this, since it's a great watch with surprises, ups and downs and the necessary deep matters/questioning that arises due to the base of it - my main reservation is that it ends on a cliffhanger.
This will likely not get a second season, yet there is a manga that will be finished soon, if
...
it isn't already - hence no more adaptations. It's an ad for the manga, so if you don't mind that and like shows that are game based, or morally challenging, like X&Y from not long ago, then give it a go and just switch over to the manga. Be warned that it gets heavy.

Please note that this show will get at least 1 more season this year, so if that's not for you then wait until the anime is finished.
Summed up in short, this is one of those feel good shows you can't fault much about. It's good at giving enough from the characters that matter to make you feel for them, know them, with a pretty good in-between of stuck in the past yet moving on/growing. A man on a mission ends up in a situation plot that might be for those that like the concept of stuff like JJK/BNHA etc but don't want as much angst,
...
trauma, gore, etc.
There's humor, emotion, secondhand embarrassment, nice sceneries and quite interesting dynamics as well as character designs. It's not your usual "put this hotty we've seen dozens of times before in a new attire so we will sell", some of the char designs are reminiscent of known chars but others are almost a bit jarring until they grow on you.
All that mixed with some fights, banter, a complex world and an adult cast.
There's somewhat of a love story in it as well, but in this season it feels like a gag more than anything - and without knowing the og source i can't say if it's meant to go anywhere or not. It's another part that adds fun and interesting points though and doesn't seem to be involved for nothing.
The only issue I found was that in comparison to most shows these days the fight sequences were really not that great or eye-catching but we've been spoiled quite a bit by other shows as to where the standards have just kinda taken a massive rise.
It's a 10/10 for now because I actually had to force myself to stop watching and go to bed, finishing it in no time while being genuinely entertained and distracted from what life throws at you all throughout. I was looking forward to picking it back up where I left of, as much as each next episode and the season that's still to come.
In short, if you're maybe having a bit of a rough time this one could be a good pick to lift your mood while still being interesting, deep and more than a comedy.

This anime was definitely a wild ride. If you like animes such as Dororo, Babylon, Tokyo Ghoul, Hell's Paradise or even Chainsaw Man then this is definitely worth checking out.
It's another one of those that leaves one with the moral questioning and is not for the faint of heart at all. It's focus is mainly on the morals, the story, and not necessarily on telling a lot of background and the likes about most of the characters - just a trend since a while.
If you're into bloody journey's, characters you'll like that you maybe shouldn't like (JJK, CSM, and the family are waving) then, once
...
again, you'll enjoy this.
If you allow yourself to get into it, then you'll be emotional, you'll be mad, you'll be wondering if everything's alright with your head and while that's not for everyone the animation, voice acting, characters and their designs alongside the story and the unique setting designs and ideas definitely do their job.
In the end I wished I knew more about the characters as much as I wished that I knew what happens from the ending on - which is one of the only things that are frustrating about the show.. the ending leaves the watcher hanging a little, especially given the previous developments of the show.
Future theme? Ayato from Tokyo Ghoul? Found family? Mad people? Gore? Fun? Sadness? All there.

There's a lot that can be said about reverse harem anime like this one.. and it's for the most part just that people don't give them a fair chance at all. A large portion of people will go into them already feeling negative, and it's ultimately how they end up feeling towards the shows.
The one that might do it the best was Amnesia, which is the first of it's genre I watched. It opened my eyes to there being a lot more to it all than the romance, which a lot of people get hung up on.
In this one, the romance doesn't sail with anyone
...
- as it doesn't in most RH anime - yet it does a good job at transitioning between the characters in a way that isn't as common in the genre. It feels smooth but not jarring, even though a bit guessable at times maybe. (by not as common I'm referring to there usually being like 1 episode for each guy, then some with them all etc)
The characters are with base and background rather unique for the genre as well. One downside is that they made a rather strange choice with the names differing between dialogue and subs, but that is taken over from the game. It's not a common choice to rename characters for the international audience, but here they did and it's just something that can be confusing and wasn't quite necessary.
For the most part the animation is solid and it's easy to differentiate between the characters that are voiced well. The cityscape and different setting designs are also top notch. Even the opening and ending songs are enjoyable.
I'll go into the story below, so if you don't want to read that then that's your sign.

There's definitely more that could've been done with the story. It apparently differs quite a bit from the idea of the game, which sadly means that how the anime does it might never be fully told or cleared up. It also leads to some inconsistencies in the character writing and ultimately for the audience to be left hanging. However, it did manage to make me at least actually want to know how it's gonna go on - which should be the emotion evoked by any media consumed.
The heroine is sadly altered a little, compared to what I've seen from the game, as over in the game she catches on a lot quicker.
For the most part the anime does the same as the game when it comes to jumping between the guys as, different from Amnesia or Mystic Messenger, you can't pick a route. You need all guys to understand and get to know the story, in both media.
If you liked Inception or maybe even Shutter Island then this is the sorta anime for you, because the ending will have you thinking of how it could go on. Maybe some writers will like it as well, since it leaves it up to our minds instead of laying it all out.
The idea of the story with the abilities that are caused by some sick and twisted means, the different effects it had on people, motivations of characters, all those little things make it overall a quite interesting show to watch. It's not a copy of any other RH anime I'd seen before either, even if some characters might have a familiar feel to them.
Another upside to this show is that there's actual development of the characters happening during the span of their life's but also in realtime as the show is progressing.. so, while there are some issues, it's another RH show that can be really entertaining if given a fair chance and gone into with an open mind.
The 2 points taken off are for the changed story that likely will never be told to the end and some errors resulting from that.

Redoing this review because I forgot to add a disclaimer that is spoiler-esque, will be added at the end.
Frankly, these days giving animes a base rating below 5 stars is just not a proper review. It's biased and too personal opinion influenced - especially given the rules of MAL. That said, this anime very much so gives the feeling of late 1800's/early 1900's japanese literature (see Akutagawa or Osamu Dazai).
With that, it's not for the faintest of heart. I'm pretty sure there has to be an umbrella term for the style of anime, I'm unaware of it so I'll give examples that are similar as
...
either a warning or note for those interested. Dororo, Akudama Drive, Babylon, Tokyo Ghoul, Chainsaw Man or Hell's Paradise from this season: those are all anime that fall into the same general category. They're not sweet and the easiest to watch. There's blood, rough characters and themes that tread into morally charged topics that many will shy away from.
Outside of the interesting mix of characters, the great music and animation, it's bold in a way that - again - will not necessarily be for everyone. The character designs are on one side quite unique, while some others you might recognize from other shows and overall the voice actors were chosen well.
The story is thought provoking and, as mentioned before, it gets you to think one about morals in all types of shades and ways.
Overall there's nothing much to fault here. The only downside is that it falls into the category of shows that appear to become more common these days where the focus is less on making the audience get to know the characters. It gives you enough to feel for them or like/dislike them, but is definitely focused on the morally challenging and rather heavy plot. The ending was a surprise, but it rounded up the story nicely. And sure, some things could always be better with some additional episodes, but that's sadly how it most of the time goes as the stories continue to grow yet the episode count and length remains the same.
It's a solid show that doesn't necessarily have to be watched in one go.. The spoiler-esque little thing will be below.

However, if you don't like portrayals of religion in anime, then this is not for you.
