It's not really about the rules though, it's the mechanics of the game. I can understand every match that happens in DM because it's always simple combinations of monster and magic/equipment cards and the occasional trap card. In the Battle City arc, they introduced and explained the concept of sacrificing monsters to summon higher level monsters, and it's still easy to follow because they're gradually making the game more complex. Meanwhile between DM and VRAINS, I missed a whole host of new mechanics introduced to the game and without any explanation, I'm totally lost, esp regarding the link summoning thing -.-.

But I'm not into the actual game at all... I watch the anime more for the characters and the nostalgia factor. Idk if I'll ever catch up on the later series because I didn't watch them as a kid.

That must've been pretty great. I'm guessing you met him at a con? Conventions in the US absolutely dwarf the ones where I live lel.

I personally didn't like Urotsukidoji at all as I found it dull and unpleasant. To each their own though and I will grant that it is definitely a classic in its own right though due to it basically pioneering an entire subgenre. I've also yet to see Garzey's Wing. From what I've heard it sounds pretty hilarious. Also still gotta see Inuyasha, which didn't air on TV over here like it did in a lot of other countries. We mostly had Dragonball, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon (which didn't really catch on here oddly enough).

Can't listen to Let's Hear it for My Baby without thinking of Cipher tbh. It's awful, but it's memorably awful.

I've personally had quite a number of high affinities (the highest I've had was over 90) but as of late I do find it somewhat rare to find someone with an affinity over 50 on the forum tbh. Regardless, it's cool to meet someone else who enjoys 80s and 90s OVAs as much as I do. Hell, the 90s would probably be my favourite period too tbh. So many great titles.

I see you're a fan of Yu Gi Oh by the way. Have you ever watched the abridged series? It's pretty hilarious

It's really confusing in the new series. I like being able to understand the duels because otherwise I just zone out until they're done.

Yep! I actually watched some of YGO as a kid, so it's a bit of a nostalgia trip, but since I'm watching the sub instead of the 4Kids dub it's also a bit different. I'm enjoying it honestly, even though I really don't like most of the original voices as much as the dub (shocker, I know, but YGO is a strange exception). I'm also watching the new YGO series VRAINS as it airs and it's making me appreciate the simplicity of the duels in Duel Monsters.

Most clubs on MAL that are not about chatting in general seem to be dead tbh, sure there are some but seldom are they active, I was looking for example for a bishonen club but most are dead :/

I've no idea what that is tbh.

Welp, despite the database being one of the biggest parts of this website, they rarely try to inprove it and mostly focus on many other technically secondary aspects for some reason.

I go to mangaupdates when I am looking for something specific since they have a somewhat better database, unfortunately its anime counter part appears to be gone now :/

I do not think demographics would be all that helpful tbh, I am not sure how they could be applied in any way that would be helpful, something being aimed at one gender won't guarantee that it will be enjoyed by it I for one dislike yaoi aimed at men like bara and prefer female targeted yaoi with bishounens, I think that categorizing thing by what they are rather than who they aim at is a lot more efficient.
