Hey. I was going to provide a link about where to get informed, but I forgot about the site when I first saw your thread.

This is a site that consist of many ideas brought by specialists in their specific fields. It ranges from scientists, businessman, analysts, engineers, and etc.

I just got linked to it again by a friend, and I think it is a very informative site to be aware of the global issues as well as domestic issues that are occurring, in a media that isn't completely feeding down tons of factual information down your throats like news usually re.

Hey there, I see your questionable bout one piece and not sure what you see in it. I have to say it probably one of my all time favorite anime series. I'm by far not a shonen fanboy, as ive seen around 900 other anime series/movies. It truly is amazing, you will just have to check it out, believe the hype on here, trust me. I was in your shoes as well, you can even see my post on the forums titled "why does everyone love one piece so much" I made about 20 new MAL friends on here. They got me interested into the show and i finally gave it a shot and i do not regret it.

Let me explains a bit if you don't mind reading the text, ill try to make it simple as possible so you can understand instead of getting all technical.

Bear with me, im not the greatest writer, perhaps some people can explain it better then i can, but ill give this a shot. It always interests me to see other fans getting involved in this great show, especially fans that love shonen's.

So here it goes :P

Basically the story is bout luffy trying to gather a crew of pirate members to cross the grand line where the treasure "one piece" is supposed to be hidden across the vast world that ODU creates which is mainly a world set in the pirate error in the long age war of piracy. Where there is pirates and many other evil villains. The pirate king known as Gold roger died and he made a statement to millions of people that watched his execution. He said I hid my treasure one piece at the end of the world if you want it, go find it. That sparked up the great war and millions of pirates sailed a crossed the seas to try and find one piece. This is where luffy comes into play a boy with a straw hat that sneaks onboard a ship and dreams of one day becoming a pirate him self with his own crew and to some day fufull his life long dream of becoming the pirate king. At least this is how it starts out in episode 1. Each character has there own individual arcs that are portrayed through out the early parts of the series. ODA’s details all the characters introductions and the crew members he meets. Despite all the goofy animations and and the weirdness of the characters, don't let that fool you. The story at its core is the best written story Ive come across. Everyone else says it gets better and better, instead of getting worse like most on going long running shonens. I love the music to, its so awesome! This is a series that will really grow on you. You will love the characters, you love the adventure and all the hardships they go through and of course the main characters gradually become stronger and stronger, not just physically but also mentally. They learn from there hardships, and luffy is the kind of character you just have to love. He seems very simple minded at the start of the show, but when it comes to protecting his friends, he will place his life on the line with out a second thought. Beneath that calm, funny smile that luffy usually shows throughout the series, he has a dark deeper and more serous personality that will arise as you get further in the series.

Don't let the silly outrageous characters turn you off from the series. Thats sort of what turned me away. But as i watched I realized the story was so deep and intriguing it just became so addictive, i never once felt like i was completing episodes just to get to the end. It may sound some what original "find one piece and become the pirate king" But there is so many plot twists and story development that the series never dies. At 430+ Episodes its still going strong today. The story is not cut into several arcs like they are in naruto and bleach. The central plot of the story is actually all 430+ episodes. Also ODA (story writer) does not kill off his characters like alot of shonen's seem to do. They always make appearances again. Unless a character is physical dead in this series you will see them again. Its actually character development and the progression of the story that makes this series excell.

One piece is far superior in that aspect for sure. They reveal each and every character, over the course of the adventure you find out about Gold D rogers crew eventually, the world government, the entire marine headquarters and many other super strong characters in the series that all have a huge meaning in the grand world of one piece and it becomes much more then just trying to get to the end of the ocean to find the treasure one piece. It starts out in an easy way like that but things get way more complicated later on.

After watching so much of it I can now clearly see what everyone is taking bout. I am impressed how ODA (story writer) threads and ties in each story arc perfectly, its not episodic like alot of shonen's seem to feel like. Each story eventually ties to every other and your just swept up in a grand adventurous, action packed series with drama. There are alot of scenes that will take you by surprise to, you will fall in love with the characters and actually feel for them. Truly I think thats why this anime deserves a medal, its pretty outstanding! I love the creativity that ODA puts into every new world and how much depth each character has. Let me explain to you why one piece is such a success compared to naruto and bleach.

Okay, first thing first, let's get things straight. What makes a series long running? The answer is the editorial system in Jump company that forced any popular series to continue uninterrupted. Many mangaka found themselves 'trapped' into the system. Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece is among the list of a series that was forced to continue because of their popularity.

What makes a long running series successful? The answer is consistency. One Piece is consistent because the author carefully foreshadowed and ties in things in his series and developed it into the later story arc. He gives almost no room to plot holes in his series. He keeps us intrigued with the mysteries in One Piece but unlike other series, One Piece explained what the mysteries is. I have a lot of question when following Naruto and Bleach but then, I realized, it's pointless. The author never explained what I was questioning. I even found one interview by Kubo (story writer of bleach) where he stated he doesn't plan everything ahead.

Interview said:
PWCW: Now that Bleach has been going on for a bit, how do you keep the adventure and the story fresh?

TK: I think it maintains a freshness because when I create manga, I don’t think about what’s going to happen—I just come up with an idea and let it flow. It’s a weekly installment, so I have a very short time to create manga, but the good thing is that because it’s short, I can come up with the idea and start creating it.

PWCW: Have you ever gotten yourself into a situation that made you say, “Uh-oh”?

TK: I don’t really face that kind of situation because it’s a long story and sometimes I forget what’s happened in the past, but I read the previous volumes of Bleach and that usually helps me to create and have a new idea.

This is different from Oda. He planned everything. There are a lot of interviews where he hinted something to happen in his series, and we actually get what he was hinted at. There are even plenty of foreshadowing you can detect whenever you re-read or watch the series.

That's one of the most important aspects if you want to follow a long running series. Always make sure the story is well developed and planned out. Otherwise, you basically follow a series that's going nowhere. You watch and read pointless episodes/chapters and got no plot development whatsoever. (IE naruto, inuyasha, bleach)

This is also the reason why One Piece has less filler than Bleach and Naruto. After looking at a episode list on one wikia with 430 episodes so far, One Piece only has less than 60 episodes of filler, and the filler are usually short and was put after the story arc ended. Bleach with less episodes than One Piece produced more filler material (and don't get me start with Naruto infamous continuous filler episodes).

Yeah another thing that you can kind of predict where the anime is and heading. They already foreshadowed the fact that luffy wanted 10 crew members right from the start of the anime and currentlt the arc they are showing now, around ep 390 or so luffy finally gets his 10th member. So that being said, I dont think there will be any other crew members, though there could but im just looking at the forshadowing in the show right from the very beginning of the series.

The ending of one piece is not something that the writer is coming up with, he already knew the ending to the series before he started it. That's probably why its pretty successful and hasn't strayed off path thus far. Because before the manga even came into existence, Oda already planned the ending of the series. I even found a interview where he mentioned that the ending is still not going to change and people are going to be quite surprise now rather or not that time comes, im not sure, but at least he has an ending planned unlike Kubo for bleach where the writer is just coming up with little details over the course of the time and is blindly running into all kinds of plot holes and has no idea how he is going to end his series.

I just want to say if your into shonens, One piece is by far the best one currently. I mean its rare for any shonen anime to have straight 10s across the board in a rating system. Most people rate shonens bad just cause they hate the genre and the overused redundant plot that seems to go on forever.. One piece has alot of reviews on this site and every single person rated it 10 and for good reason. This series focuses on the first part of the series with character arcs showing the characters, you wont know that at first but once you get like ep 24 you will start to see it coming to light in the plot and understand what all those arcs mean. Now to just to give you a taste of what the series is kind of like. Here is a amv video that shows some pretty cool action scenes. My avatar btw is Luffy, hes the main protagonist. It just gets better and better. Like with bleach it was amazing during the soul society arc but started to loose its pacing when it got to around the arancar arc. That was just sad. One piece stays consistent and follows the manga to the key. Its been going strong and has not lost its touch yet. I am not just suggesting that it gets better because of the action. Alot of people that are into shonen's say that for every shonen series. Just because the series gets more intense the further on and the characters get stronger and the fights become more epic so to speak does not mean the series is getting better. Since most shonen's appeal to a younger audience mostly. Thats like saying dbz is at its best during the Buu saga because at that point characters can blow up planets. Thats just a very poor analogy of the show and saying it gets better when the fights get more deadly is not looking at the deeper meaning behind one piece and is only focused on action and the fighting. I seriously recommend you check it out. It may be your most favorite anime series. It is for me. I made my top 5 easily.

Anyways, i really am sorry for that LONG message lol. But hopefully reading this gives you more of a sentitive to give the series one last shot before dropping it. Its definitely one anime you don't want to drop.
