If you were able to exchange your lifespan, time, or health for money, would you do it? It was just a couple of hours ago that I stumbled upon this manga while scrolling down the top manga list, the synopsis completely captured my attention. So after 16 chapters (17 including chapter 8.5, still don't know what the 18th chapter is according to the info on MAL), here is my review of Three days of Happiness.
Story:

wage how much a life's worth is even better. The story follows Kusunoki (first name unknown) as he discovers how worthless his life actually is and how he spends the last 3 months of his life. No matter where it goes, the story always come back to the overarching theme of life values and happiness. Very interesting story and one that makes readers think and re-evaluate their perspectives.
Art:
While some of the frames of background details are quite well done and artistic, a lot of the time the art style is rather minimalistic. That's not to say it looks bad, but if you are to give this manga a shot, don't expect highly detailed backgrounds or realistic character portrayals, as most of the time it's rather empty and bland. Overall, nothing impressive but it gets the job done.
Character:
The main protagonist of this manga is Kusunoki (first name unknown), a painfully average college student struggling in financial matters. After selling his lifespan with only 3 months to spare, he is accompanied by an observer named Miyagi (first name unknown, again) to make sure he wouldn't cause any trouble. As the story progresses, Kusunoki attempts to mend his past relationships to re-evaluate his life's worth, all the while forming a bond with his observer in the process. The main protagonist is nothing impressive compared to other manga protagonists, but that is precisely the point because he is representative of an average, or even below average, person without any goals or drives. It was through these characters that the author explores the essence of life, how people are too mindful of others' opinions, the value of life, and most importantly, the meaning of true happiness. These are characters that readers can truly relate to and fully immerse themselves in the experience.
Final Verdict:
Three Days of Happiness is one of the most profound and meaningful manga about life and happiness that I've ever read. With the realistic portrayals of characters and thought provoking messages that it offers, this manga is definitely one of my favorite, despite being one of the shortest out there.

I came into this show with mixed feelings, part hopeful and part skeptical. After 13 weeks, this anime finally came to a close and I just wanted to express how I feel after this journey.
Visual:
First, let's address the elephant in the room. Violet Evergarden looks absolutely gorgeous. As expected of KyoAni, they once again nailed the visual aspect of an anime, from the beautiful artwork to the subtle movement of the characters, everything is top class. The quality of this anime's visual could rival that of Koe no Katachi (no surprise, same studio) and Kimi no Na Wa. Overall, amazing job on the visual.
Story:
The story

follows Violet Evergarden, an emotionless ex-soldier on her journey to understand feelings and emotions. This, by itself, is a very interesting concept with potential for greatness. While watching, I expected the story to slowly unravel with various events to change Violet's outlook on life. And the anime did, more or less, follow my expectation and I liked the overall concept. However, it's the direction and execution that hurts this anime.
Direction & Execution:
Long story short, Violet Evergarden feels very forced. A lot of the events and interactions just don't feel natural and that they're bound to happen for plot development purposes. Some people say that the pacing of this anime is slow, but I think it's the complete opposite. Things just seem to happen way too fast without anytime for emotional build-up and development, and it's expected since most story arc and event is confined to a single episode. This is what killed the anime, in my opinion.
Character:
As mentioned above, the lightning fast pacing of the anime leaves virtually no room for characters beside Violet to develop. Except for the characters in episode 10, which is probably my favorite episode, everyone else are very uninteresting and cliche. Even the star of the anime, Violet, weren't very well developed. On episode 7, Violet suddenly learned to feel empathy for no particular reason, given how previous episodes didn't seem to make an impression on her at all. Was there a such a powerful event between Episode 6 and 7 that isn't shown? No one really knows. Overall, pretty average characters.
Sound:
I wasn't particularly impressed with the audio of this anime. There wasn't any scene that made me think "Wow, that's some great audio" or "This music fits this scene so well". The same tracks are reused a lot of the time as well, and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything praiseworthy. The OP and ED songs were pretty nice, however, and they fit the theme of the anime quite well.
Final Verdict:
While Violet Evergarden has potential for greatness with its promising story premise, it ultimately flops because of the direction and execution. Despite its phenomenal visual, every other aspects are fairly mediocre and forgettable. If you're someone who don't mind the flaws I mentioned and want to watch a good looking anime, then definitely give Violet Evergarden a shot. Otherwise, if you want a show with similar concept that is well-done, I recommend 3-Gatsu no Lion and Death Parade.
