It has been a while since I watched FLCL but I remember it being quite good and I think it would hold up rather well were I to watch it today. It's one of the shows I am planning on revisiting soon

Thanks for the appreciative comment bro.

My Vagabond review is a bit old, I would still consider it a great manga that I would recommend people read, but I'm not sure that I'd give the same score now. My anime favorites list got revamped a while back as well and I'm due for rewatching a bunch of shows. Nothing too complicated.

also i'm from brazil

Followed you back :3

Yeah, I've seen a few. Namely Princess Mononoke (my favourite of theirs), Spirited Away, Nausicaa and Grave of the Fireflies. Great studio and great director. I should really give more of their stuff a go.

Thanks for the FR by the way.

Cool. I'm also studying to become one at the moment. I'm in my first year of film school.
Kubrick's an absolute genius. The sheer amount of detail he puts in his shots is phenomenal.
Admittedly I still need to get around to watching Lang, Kieślowski and Bergman. I've heard nothing but praise for their films.
Yeah I have an account there.

Yo! Yeah, we sure do. Our tastes seem really similar.
I loved FLCL and it'd probably make my top 20, but not my top 10.
Monster and LoGH are absolutely astonishing. Their lengths are a tad daunting but they're totally worth it.
Love the Ghibli gifs on your profile by the way.

Fuck it. I'll watch Akira then. I've been drinking coffee like a mad man anyway so it's not like I'll be going to bed anytime soon.
Cupid Jul 9, 2016 4:15 PM
Oh wait....I was gonna watch Akira for my 99th but you supposedly 'despise it' so I won't bother.
Cupid Jul 9, 2016 4:05 PM
Tell me something to watch, fag.

I can admire their art but never their character.
He did spread a message of peace but when you don't practice what you preach it all seems very hollow.
They aren't bad by a long shot (aside from their first couple of albums), their later period is quite good. Calling something overrated doesn't mean that it's bad, but it's easy to see why some people become really negative about bands like The Beatles, movies like Citizen Kane, books like Infinite Jest etc. when they're hailed by pop culture as the best there is, and even though they're all good the person is expecting them to be the best in their respective fields, which leads to disappointment that wouldn't be there if an insurmountable amount of hype hadn't been built around them.
Art is subjective of course and nobody can say that a person doesn't enjoy what the person enjoys, but I'd rather trust someone who has really delved into a certain field like cinema (but it also applies to music, literature, art etc.) and has watched a lot of classics, blockbusters, B-movies, experimental movies, arthouse etc. and knows how a movie is produced and directed and how cinematography works among other things, and can articulate their opinion well, than some random guy off the street who likes watching comic book movies with his friends a few times a year. My impression of a piece of art still stands of course, but even if I don't like it personally I can still appreciate the formal qualities (and sometimes I can't do that and still think it's awful).
There's nothing wrong with being a conformist, I still am to a large degree since even most of the arthouse stuff I like is entry-tier and not very divisive, but there's nothing inherently wrong with being a contrarian either, as long as you have a reason for being one.
