Pare molti abbiano apprezzato molto la tua recensione di SnK. Io mi struggo per scrivere commenti con una grammatica decente, quindi una recensione è al di là delle mie ambizioni.

thanks a lot! Yup, like they say, one man's meat is another man's poison. Being zealous is great; it drives one passionately forward. All the best with your Anime venture! :D

And so to speak, the appalling part (which might be attractive to you) was in fact IMO, the heavy usage and "abuse" of "twist-and-turns". Having discussed this with 4 of my colleagues over the plot development of SnK, we have came to a similar theory: a cognitive bias, possibly related to anchoring heuristic in my opinion. Humans have the tendecy to rely too heavily on the first piece of information offered to them in making decisions, in this case, the direction of the plot; and thanks to all the twists and turns, SnK is heavily appraised and appreciated, but stop, think and look back. Go back to square one. What exactly is SnK trying to convey? What is the message of the show...in the end? A story without a distinct message...is it really that enjoyable in the end? Think about it...the twists might not have been the magnus opus of SnK...but instead an implication on SnK potential!

Erm..apologies if you cannot take criticism in advance, but there are a few points which I would like to highlight about your review on SnK. Hype. This wasn't mentioned by you, but was of concern in many SnK "haters". (which I despise) Hype is just an excuse used by haters who thoroughly condemn this title once and all over again. (They apply it for THAT show too, with the virtual reality godawful ****) I liked the fact that you have pointed out the charm of SnK, and that the theme of "Homo omini lupus". As an ardent reader of Kafka and Dick; a supporter of Nietzsche and Descartes (a fan of Wilde ~woot~), and a Freud fan of sorts; the idea of philosophy and human psychology are very profound, yet ambiguous themes. The way you have highlighted it in your review, in my opinion, can be better justified. I can see that you are a fan of Ergo Proxy, and a supporter of the plot-driven Monster; which IS good, but "psychological" as a means of horror can be better explained. Not trying to hurt your feelings for Kyojin once again, but is Kyojin really necessarily "psychological"? Is the trauma...profound? Plot twists aside, which should be considered as plot devices and developments instead of a motif; Psychological horror does not equate to graphical violence. For instance, the well infamous "Yosuga no Sora". Ignoring the borderline "hentai" content observed in the show, the reason why I appreciated that seemingly atrocious title was simple: its development and repeating usage of psychology. In a short span of 12 episodes, it developed 4 heroines to heavily contrasting perspectives, and by concocting the human psychology into it (such as the Westermarck effect), it is able to redefine psychological means, but not necessarily horror. Yes, psychology does not equate to horror. It requires a heavy, and profound appraisal of the human mind. Go watch Lain if you have the time. You'll appreciate it.

Next, you third paragraph. Yes, your third paragraph. Even as long as 1963, Anime has been constantly redefining on the theme of bipolarity. Look at the real life "Cold War", for instance. Is there a true enemy out there? And in turn, is SnK a VERY good proponent of this theory, anyways? Gundam in 1979 was brought into the spotlight for questioning this logic. Char and Amuro, despite heavy differences in ideological backgrounds and motives, yet seemingly converge in a clear, distinct, stand in the battlefield. Is there really a hero of sorts? Not trying to be an advocate for Gundam, definitely (Gundam series have many flaws throughout its 35 year history), but you do get the idea when I say that? Let me change, or at least, attempt to do so, by picking up on Berserk, Ryvius (a sci-fi Lord of the Flies LEL), Gankutsuou, and even Gundam 00. You'll never regret it, considering your tastes for SnK.

I do not have a hidden agenda such as to try to devalue your ratings for SnK or make you hate it whatsoever. As an Anime fan, I really appreciate accepting different perspectives and different plot executions from all sorts of Anime. Kyojin does have its pros, but definitely better defined in many more titles you have yet to seen. Thank you.
