I started reading Gantz in 2020. Now I realize that my biggest failure in life is that it took me 20 years to actually give it a chance.
Hello everyone! Let me start by saying that I do not approve of illegal streaming and manga scans, it's just disrespectful to the creators. (all anime / books in my lists are purchased by me)
Now then, let's start the introduction! *cough* I'm a pretty typical nerd, I watched Poké/Digi-mon as a kid. I started reading manga as a young teenager and finally, I got into light novels when in my late teens. I believe it's a pretty standard nerd evolution, and being born in the golden era of Pokémon surely made it inevitable to become an otaku. The first anime I watched that was not for kids was "When They Cry" (Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni). It gave me nightmares...
My tastes are a bit mixed. I don't love or hate any specific genre, but I'll try and make it simple here. I would say I hate shounen, shoujo, and sports. Shounen heroes want to save everyone, even their enemies. Sports anime are too unrealistic, and the excessive use of slow-motion and inner monologues makes it unbearable. And Shoujo is simply not for my gender or age group. I usually love slice-of-life with fantasy / supernatural elements and stories with strong female protagonists.
That's how I would explain my tastes in a very simplified way. I would never diss an anime without giving it a chance, I believe in the potential of anime and will give anything a try. (ditto for manga)
I've never read a Light Novel series that is good for more than 10 volumes. Overlord, Spice and Wolf, Shield Hero, Death March, Accel World. All of those were extremely good early on. And then they gradually becomes almost unreadable before hitting double digits.
I have the name Tanya Von Degurechaff tattooed on my arm. Now I'm hoping the light novels series will end while I still love it...
Here I will mention some titles that I really loved at first sight.
Anime: Charlotte, Gamers, Hakumei and Mikochi, Robotics;Notes, Witchcraft Works
Manga: Horimiya, Yotsuba, My Monster Secret, D-Frag, Gantz, High-rise Invasion
Light Novels: A Sister's All You Need, Napping Princess, Another
Let's end it there. Bye-bye now.
PS: When a Normie asks me what I like to read, I always answer "Japanese Literature." If someone objects that Manga is not literature, I simply show them the 100+ Light Novels I have in my cellphone. [insert evil laugh here]
PPS:Disney ruined Star Wars, I won't forgive, and I never forget. They just made a very powerless enemy.
