BOFURI is the one anime that I managed to binge watched from 1st episode to final on one night in a year or two now (getting old really not fun). I really enjoyed it for what it offers but I do not think I will continue to read the Light Novel.

The premise is simple, some cheerful girl asked to play a VRMMORPG by her friend and she having fun building her own build while exploring and acquiring overpowered skills randomly with luck.
I would describe this anime as a power fantasy mainly while also serving your daily dose of cute girls doing cute things as a ... side dish.

While this anime is not for me per se, Silver Link always capture my heart with their art from colorful laser beam to how scary Godzilla/predator like monster should like.
For me the art and music itself carried the story for me to enjoy it fully.

The main purpose and message of the author is undoubtably just to have fun. Many of the part we see are taken from other media from similar genre like SAO/ Log Horizon but also a lot of popular culture like Godzilla and your classic mecha girl.
There are not a lot to say other than its a mish mash of what author thinks fun and want to give the same feeling to the readers (anime watchers in this case) and in that regards, I would say they succeed because I did enjoy every episode.
While I have not read the original works, the anime feels well-paced just enough to not make me bored with its randomness but at the same time giving me a natural sense of progression episode by episode.
A delicate balanced where its random enough to be fun but not too random that you feel lost and disconnected.

Unfortunately, it’s the only nice things that I can say about the anime.
I do not know if I should write this here because it clearly not trying to be something serious and maybe I was wrong to expecting something like it on this anime.
To start with, there are no risk involved. What I meant by that is not like real death or trapped settings.
But somethings to be worried about if dying or failing anything. Story that does not have conflicts are just plain and will be boring after some time.
There is nothing to lose, not item, not experience, nothing.
The motivations are also seeming random, there is no reason to get top 10 in a competition, but they fight so hard like something bad will happen if they didn’t.
Like what happened with the MC throughout the anime, the plot seems random if there is any.
Like how she just meets quest at random and do it, the plot also demand the whole guild to do things at random even though there is no need for it.
Clearly, I cannot give any more point to the storyline with this being the case.

I can see why many people divided by this. For me personally it is a good anime to just mind-blankly watch to. Just like hitting zombies in Left 4 dead, no brain power is required and good if you just want to wind up after a long week.
On the other hands, the plethora "borrowed" elements from other shows including some of the obvious character designs and simple plot will only give you so much until you get bored. It is not a good world, universes to dive into, there is seemingly no depth in anything as author just copying what seems fun to him and pasting it back to his works.
Which is a shame because I really like to see all the possible subplots. Why even bother telling us how other guild member got the weapon if all the fight mainly will be done with main character anyways.
Why would have Kanade some really unique staff if all author will make is, he is throwing out convenient stuff in the background while Maple destroy everything.
I would not say this anime is Mary Sue by definitions, but I can see how it could be in a long run.

My final verdicts are go watch one or 3 episodes. You will know by then you going to like this anime or not.
There is really a genuine fun to be had as long as you are not the type to think about how and why a lot.
Conflicts make a good story and there is none in this.
Make that as you will.

THIS IS NOT A CLICHE STORY ABOUT AN OTAKU!!! This is a master-level anime couples with a great animation and soundtrack. If you are looking for an anime that blends military and fantasy almost PERFECTLY, this is it.
yet it have its own flaws and greatness.
(just finished the second season)

Lets take a look at this VERY SHORT review.

Let's start with MC.. He is skilful. Not the usual laidback personality and not simply a manifestation of brute force. He act when needed and does thing correctly yet he is not a serious person and NOT THE USUAL PERVERT MC.

Soundtrack: A good try I said. But there is ... still room. Especially when there is an air raid and they use Raid of Valkyrie as a background music.. A common classical piece. They try to copy that one movie but I forgot its name.

Scenery: A1 studio really put their effort into this anime cause we can see the glittering atmosphere, shiny sky, yet vast and empty world consume in the darkness blend splendidly together to create a truly magical atmosphere.


Story line: Put it simply, you might have that feeling of Log horizon. There is character development and stuff. and the most important thing: PLOT. Yes, they have it. You can see the story shifting smoothly one arc after another with a logical continuation inserted with light humour now and then.

Despite the existence of many women(Girls, elf, demigod loli, whatev) There is not an obvious smell of harem going on. Every character fit in into the party very well and have their own role and part in the anime unlike many anime that inserted a loli, oppai, osanajimi and others just to make a harem atmosphere and their fanservice duty.
