This whole anime was recapped in episode 24. All you need really is episode 24.
The show was dragged out and really should have been just 12 or 13 episodes.
It wasn't funny, it wasn't that sad. It was entirely predictable.
I'll be honest with you guys - I hate watched this show. I watched Clannad and After Story because it was recommended by everyone and highly rated. And I mean everyone. On MAL. On R/Anime. On youtube by anitubers. So I had to watch it through. I wanted to drop Clannad and its After Story after almost every episode.
I'm not even going to review the
first Clannad. It doesn't even need to exist to be honest. It is almost completely irrelevant. The whole of Clannad 1 could have been summed up in just one episode of After Story. And After Story actually did sum up the entire 25 episode series (the site I watched on had 25 eps) in just one episode. So it could have been done lol
Story: Starts with them finishing school and entering adult life. I can't say much without spoiling it but its what you would expect adult life to be like. The pacing of the show is about as slow as real life too so there is that.
Art: I really can't stand the Clannad artstyle. They honest look like aliens or something it is so uncanny and unsettling. I watched a few episodes while intoxicated and it was actually freaking me out.
Sound: There are some nice themes but there are also some really jarring ones. The music is really hit and miss. The voice acting annoyed me in sub and dub. I kept switching between the two but I just couldn't get comfortable with either.
Character: They all look so similar. They are all boring. Only the MC was interesting and proved to have some depth to him. The others were so flat / one dimensional that they may as well have been bots or NPCs if this was a video game.
Enjoyment: As I said before, I felt like dropping the show after most episodes. For Clannad and again in After Story. I was glad however that After Story left the school tropes behind for the most part. And there isn't too much fanservice but that shouldn't really even need to be mentioned as a positive note.
Overall: Overall a bad show. It was almost an average show but it dragged on for far too long. And the twists and emotional bits that I assume is what got everyone to love the show to much were predicted by me long before they happened. Perhaps because I have alot of life experience myself. I can see why a much younger and much more emotional watcher would like this show but for a more mature person who is cynical, cold and jaded it was nothing short of frustrating to get through this series.
It took me 2 - 3 months to finish watching Clannad and then After Story. I wanted it to be a good show but it just isn't. And I have sword to myself that I will never again watch a show based on its hype and being recommended and being highly rated. From now on I will only watch shows that catch my attention from the synopsis and I'll give it a try and if it isn't going anywhere I am dropping it like a hot coal.
