Happy Birthday!

Haha that makes complete sense. But thank you for the recommendation.
I'd heard of all the shows, other than Revolutionary Girl Utena. I'm really not a fan of sci-fi stuff, so I guess, as long as that's not there, I'll be able to give the recs a shot. I remember keeping bakemonogatari on hold, so maybe I'll pick up that long series too.

Thank you, again! Appreciate your help a lot :)

oh thank you very much. i'll go with the release order too, then.
i checked your list, and you seem to have watched Haibane Renmei, and me choosing to pick up Kino no Tabi is mostly because i've heard it's very similar to Haibane Renmei. do you think that's true?
also, it'd be really cool if you could recommend similar shows.

Hi, got to your profile through your Kini no Tabi review. I was wondering if you could help me out with the watching order, because I'm really unsure of how to proceed with it.

The anime looks ass ugly and doesn’t explain much because it assumes you’ve played the games. It’s basically just fan wank for people who bought the games. Which reviewers did you like who left?

I see you watched the Xenosaga anime. Are you a fan of the game series? Those are some of my all time faves!

You should talk to her first at least. She’s very nice! Check out some of her reviews if you want to see what some of MAL’s better writing looks like.

That’s because she had to spell it Fleure with an e

I’ve been writing reviews here since 2014 as a hobby. Mostly I review goofy shit and try get a few laughs. By total helpful votes I’m ranked 11th on MAL. Which just means I write a lot of reviews, not that the quality is that high. My friend Fleur isn’t even on the top 50 and she’s a WAY better writer than I am!

I really liked your Utena review! Finally, someone uses deconstruction correctly and checks more than TV tropes!

I’ll check it out! My latest review was Master of Martial Hearts. I do an April fools review every year where I gush praise on something unspeakably awful.

I haven't watched Wolf's Rain in a LONG time, so I would need to re-watch it in order to thematically compare it to Texh. Elfen Lied was the first anime I owned on DVD and a very formative series for me, so I've actually seen it 12 times! Far more than I've seen any other anime. I even co-wrote the wikia and wrote my own season 2 fanfic. It's not a well loved series here on MAL, but I stick by it.

I've never heard Wolf's Rain compared to Texh, but visually they are similar! Nice review! Also, you were very right to drop the Elfen Lied manga. It's fucking HORRIBLE. The anime is my all time favorite though, despite the many issues it has.

Well, the overall reach of fanbase to the show is quite all over the place. As I had mentioned, the fanbase is pretty loyal when it comes to Gintama. For the sake of simplicity, I would say it's divided into two groups: One that affirmatively believes that Gintama is indeed a "flawless masterpeice" and anyone saying otherwise is factually wrong. The other group knows its goods and bads but they still love it for its weirdness and the term "inconsistency" is considered its big strength in this case, unlike regular shounen or parody shows. What's special about the fanbase is that here, the ratio of mentioned 2 groups is pretty even. You may look at those top reviews being reviewed by people who would fall under "blindly loyal" category, but that's not necessarily the case. A good chunk of Gintama fans I've seen online knows that this is a weird-ass show and they also realize that some of its comedy aspects do follow the typical "anime" tropes; repetitive running gags, guy yelling at someone because "this is funny" etc. I understand that you mentioning the "second coming of Jesus" is justified because of the top reviews, but the general audience won't go toe-to-toe with that claim.

Ratings are mere whole numbers and I get that they don't have to reflect your personal opinions about the show. Same with the top-rated shows on mal. I find some of the top-rated shows overhyped myself, so I can relate how you feel the same way about Gintama.

I've watched neither Fate/Stay night nor Re:Zero yet, so can't say anything about them.

Your review is now fine as it is. Nothing needs to be changed, unless you want to explain why those mediocre episodes are mediocre and make 4 paragraphs of it, I won't stop you lol. But I would say this, the later seasons do get less "inconsistent" in comparison and overall appeal of the franchise will be more recognizable. So if you ever decided to watch the later seasons, you may observe this positive light of hope.

Pretty good review on Gintama I must say. As you'd mentioned, it is indeed a "Turn off your brain and enjoy" type of show, but I've never heard anyone claiming it to be "second coming of Jesus" or the "savior of shonen anime", if anything the fans don't even count it as a "Shonen" most of the time.

I understand it's kinda annoying to see 6 out of top 15 rated shows being Gintama related, but I also get the reason quite clearly.
>Relatively smaller fanbase actually finishing the first season alone(around 170k members)
>Having 50 episodes afterwards on season 2(at this point, people who didn't like the "long running" first season won't bother with this)
>Having a pretty loyal fanbase left for the later seasons, who will ultimately rate them higher since there's no quality drop
It's pretty unfair, but it is what it is.

I'm not gonna bash you with pointless arguments like "You didn't watch the show like the way you were supposed to" or "Keep watching, it'll all make sense as to why this is considered a masterpiece by its fans" since it's clearly not a show for everyone and niche portion of an already niche amount of fans can actually appreciate the whole series to the fullest.

I won't even argue that you should prolly watch the rest of the seasons because you have understood all the pros and cons of the whole series itself. I'm even intrigued by the fact that you managed to finish the first season when you could've just dropped it during episode 60 or something, which I would've recommended to someone who couldn't get into Gintama, despite seeing the appeal.
