Marginal 4 is your typical idol show. It incorporates little character, story and animation and instead decides to focus all of its efforts on good music, which surprisingly pays off. I’ve never been a fan of boy idol groups but the opening song is incredibly fun to listen to and I even occasionally catch myself humming to it.

Most of the episodes are full of what feels like filler; basically lengthening out the show till it is ‘anime length’ before playing a short song. These songs are really the only content within the anime I enjoy however it is the most important content to be interesting.

The one thing that has definitely been missing from anime is a mature romance. Every romance anime or even mature anime will devolve into a blood bath or a harem, so for a combination of the two without it devolving into that kind of shitshow, is actually rather nice.

The characters are what make this show. The complexity of each of them, all of them being completely disgusting people, happy to push their way through anyone regardless of how it will affect them just to get what they want is frustrating. And that’s how the creators want to make you feel. This anime is a complex read more

So Gonzo just comes out of nowhere with this. A pretty decent action comedy focused around Akihabara, a district in Tokyo, hence the name Akiba's Trip. For those that don't know, Akihabara is the cultural centre of anime, manga and other fandoms in Japan. Revolving in this anime basically being full of characters and locations that feel like they are straight from Akiba itself such as cosplayers and maid cafe's. This show is named after a game called AKIBA'S TRIP: Undead & Undressed, from this you can probably get what type of show this is going to be.

This series is great for quietly taking the read more

Acca-13-Ku Kansatsu-Ka or ACCA: 13- Territory inspection Dept. which I’ll shorten to Acca for the rest of this review is a show I have been looking forward to for a long time. Madhouse has descended into the production of plenty of mediocre shows recently causing a probable all time low in confidence for their studio. I hoped that Acca would redeem them, prove to the anime world that they are still up to scratch and that they can still make anime on the same level as Death Note and Hunter x Hunter.

Unfortunately it doesn’t. Acca was a great attempt to break from the norm; create read more

I was pretty shocked when I heard that the Japanese are really enjoying this show, but then again Japanese tastes have always been awful. So Kemono Friends is a CGI mess, and I mean a mess. Awful animation making you realise why they were able to drag this out to full 20 minute episodes. The backgrounds and art is basic; due to the nature of it being on an African reserve it basically gives them the right to have sweeping landscapes which most likely due to budget, they decide not to do.

The voice actress are just poor poor girls trying to get into the read more

When I watch this anime, I understand what Miyazaki meant when he said “Anime was a mistake”. When i watch this anime, I understand what Anno meant when he said “Anime is dying”. For this to even be released, for some people to even take this seriously, is incredibly laughable.

One of the worst looking shows I have seen in a long time, brave but just awful. Some people will try to claim that the art is ‘nice’. No it’s not. The art is a cg mess, with GoHands thinking they could get away with actual talent and good looks by resorting to the over read more

It’s extremely uncommon to actually get a decent short. Obviously due to the time restriction of each show, it will limit how much of a competent story can get told. Many times it will also delve into ‘how many lines can we quickly fit in in a certain amount of time’ resulting in all of the characters talking extremely fast. This normally takes me out of the show and Chiruran does this to an extent but never to a level where it feels forced.

And despite the time limit a story that interests me can get told, detailing the shenanigans of the Shinsengumi which for those read more

Gabriel Dropout is a disappointment. A show with a semi-unique premise sounding incredibly fun and interesting, have the ability to put whatever they want in it due to the nature of the show. They do somewhat absorb this, creating unique premises that would not have places in other shows such as a godlike shopping channel which does lead to a few laughs [You’ll get this joke if you have watched it.]

The premise falls apart when it comes to the story, basically having no overall arch, providing no stability to a somewhat disjointed show. This mixed with incredibly basic characters that feel thrown in just for read more

Chain chronicles deserves the epithet mediocre. For a show to have a decent art and characters yet have this awful story and voice acting in perfect balance is pretty extraordinary. The story basically revolves down to good vs bad and does not develop on this in any way. You are thrown into a scene what feels like mid-season and the whole thing is basically a kafuffle of story points and character backgrounds that don’t really interconnect. Unsurprising when like many other anime, it’s based on a mediocre tower defence game.

The characters despite them in the game being shitty little chibi sprites are pretty well thought read more

It’s a shame talking about a show like this. Something with so much potential, with A-class seiyuu working behind it being so. Boring. This simply is one of the most disinteresting shows of the season based on its dull storyline; which follows a kid who joins a space agency police thing. That to me sounded different, but still had the same premise as Space Patrol Luluco therefore I had high hopes for it. The boundaries were limitless, they could put whatever type of space alien they want in it and any wacky premise could be covered with the ‘It’s Sci-Fi’ label. But they through this read more
