Yowamushi Pedal

They start with the same premise: a kid who has tenacity and innate talent for road bicycle racing starts as a beginner and learns about the sport, making rivals and teammates along the way. Yowamushi Pedal is much longer and with a larger cast, but they both have a similar feeling.

Mix: Meisei Story

Both of these sports anime are just as much about the characters' lives outside of a match, especially family relationships and a bit of romance. The main characters in both stories are heavily impacted by events in the past. The overall feelings of the two shows are a little different (Area no Kinshi leans heavily on the drama, while Mix is more laid-back) and of course they feature different sports. But while watching Mix I am frequently reminded of Area no Kinshi and it's worth checking out one if you liked the other.

Gin no Saji
|
These two manga both follow young male protagonists who find themselves only semi-willingly thrust into rural situations. In Gin no Saji it's a kid who doesn't have a dream so he ends up at a farming high school, and in Barakamon it's a young calligrapher who goes to a small island village to find inspiration. They both feature a fun cast of characters, comedic slice of life with occasional serious moments, and they both have a similar heartwarming feeling.

Fantasm is a manga and My Beautiful World (Naui Binaneun Segye) is a manhwa, but they both deal with the same subject of a girl who can see evil intentions and isn't sure how to deal with it. Both of them are also in conflict with their parents because of the ability.

Love x Joint

These are both cute stories about a main heroine who is skilled in a manual craft. In Love x Joint it's architectural design and construction, while in Ookamidomo no Shitsukekata it's car repair. They're both only a few chapters long, so they move quickly.

37.5°C no Namida
|
These manga are both about taking care of young children, and deal with it in a relatively realistic but cute way. Love So Life focuses on romance and the growing up of a young heroine, while 37.5°C no Namida is more about an older woman and her interactions with multiple children as part of her work. If you like one, it's worth checking out the other.

Pochama ni
|
Both of these stories feature protagonists who don't fall into the typical shoujo manga stereotypes. Physically, the hero/heroine look like characters that would be thrown away in the background of most other manga (a guy who's huge and intimidating in Ore Monogatari and an overweight girl in Pochama ni). They each have a supportive friend and manage to find the perfect partner who can accept them completely. I find myself enjoying them in the same way: for the refreshingly straightforward manner the characters have of facing their own challenges and romantic developments.

Noragami

These stories both center around a normal girl who is thrust into the supernatural world of the gods, and proves her strong character in the process. They both involve comedy and romance, with some darker elements in the past that come back to affect the main characters. Noragami and Kamisama Hajimemashita are both excellent stories (both still in progress at the time of this recommendation).

Last Game
|
The two stories have a similar dynamic of a guy completely in love with an oblivious girl, while everyone around them is aware of what's going on. Last Game includes more of the typical school plot elements, ranging from primary school through to college. Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou has more variety because it develops a cast of characters with a range of ages and wacky personalities. The protagonist has a different personality in the two stories, but hilarious moments are present in both.
