Note: I'm currently rebuilding my favorites list, as I'm no longer confident that the shows I had listed reflect my current tastes and values since some are long overdue for a rewatch. As I rewatch these series I will continue to add to my list.
Heya, E-Sharp here, also known as Caffeinated Telescopes. I'm 18, from SoCal, a writer, musician, designer, fanboy and consumer of (nearly) all media types. I base my rating system on my standards of the quality of the show (characters, story, directing style, writing, etc.), the impact the show left on me, and it's value of re-watchability.
10 - All time favorites. Series with carefully designed characters, dense interwoven narratives and production levels going above and beyond the status quo. Usually these masterpieces carry unique and interesting themes, ideas and concepts and then execute them in the most thorough and genuine way possible. These are shows that have left deep, lasting impressions on me and that I will re-watch many times in the years to come.
9 - Still all time favorites for most of the same reasons as my 10s, but lacking in the same conceptual appeal and depth.
8 - Shows I think of highly and thoroughly enjoy with well executed characters, stories and ideas but with less complex structures, layered narratives and less memorable concepts..
7 - Shows that I thoroughly enjoy and may re-watch, but generally lacked in one or more specific areas (story lines that fell flat, lack of satisfactory character development, etc.).
6 - Shows that I would likely never watch again alone or of my own accord. Probably had a promising or interesting concept but over the course of the show the story line and characters became unrealistic or boring.
5 - At this point, we're talking about shows that weren't necessarily bad, but that I probably wish I hadn't wasted my time on. Either they were generic or caused me to lose interest for whatever reason. This also includes shows I didn't like for unknown or unfair reasons.
4 - Shows that have a couple of good elements, moments or characters, but not enough to redeem its shortcomings.
3 - Shows that I actively dislike. Probably broke my suspension of disbelief along the way. Not personally insulting, not the worst of the worst, just enough of a failure for me to potentially write an essay on their shortcomings.
2. Terrible shows.
1. Insulting shows.
