A clarification on my scoring
10/10: Masterpiece, absolutely no complaints. Groundbreaking work, establishes itself away from the tropes of other works within the same genre. Deeply engaging storytelling, characters, and plot. Works here leave a strong impression on the viewer through their motifs and themes. Only issues are the most minor nitpicks, not enough to affect the score or even qualify as complaints. Extremely high rewatch value. Entries in this category are what I would consider the cream of the crop. Importantly, though these are complete masterpieces to me, they cannot be mistaken for recommendations for
everyone. This is because they fit
every criterion of fiction for me. Thus, entries with this score will be few and far in between.
9/10: Amazing. Any complaints about this tend to be minor, but enough to knock it off the status of a 10. Shows in this category may also be closer to 9.5 at times. Series which fit a 9.5 or 9 better will simply miss the somewhat inexplainable "feeling" of a masterpiece that the 10 category provides. Able to hold its own against a 10 in a variety of traits. Overall, even more enjoyable than an 8, performing better in key areas. A highly enjoyable experience through and through, coming up short in very few areas.
8/10: Solid. Highly enjoyable. The plot is engaging enough for me to enjoy entries here, but some faults may be present throughout that prevent it from being scored higher. Thus complaints are infrequent but more numerous/lofty than within the 9 category. Misses the mark of providing the level of enjoyment that a 9 or 10 provides. This still doesn't take away from the rest of the work. Anything here is still quite enjoyable. High potential to leave a lasting impression on the viewer. Some may require a rewatch to better understand the contents, potentially causing a rescoring and will be tagged as such. Some may be closer to an 8.5 as well, and those will also be appropriately noted. All in all, entries here are very good and definitely worth the watch.
7/10: Good. An enjoyable time, no way around it, though is not elevated to the same factor as the higher 3 scores. Comedy and some shounen series may go here as they are still enjoyable, only to an extent. Complaints may be more regular, especially if it just doesn’t seem remarkable. Additionally, many series within this score are visually pleasing, but leave more to be desired on the plot and character front. With these entries, I may also not take sufficient interest in the characters, plot or the world to assign a higher score. Ultimately a good experience that was able to hold my attention. Universally, entries here are mostly solid and offer middle to slightly higher tier enjoyment at most. Some may even offer more a bit more than that, being more of a 7.5 and tagged as such.
6/10: Could be better, but could be much worse. Middle tier enjoyment. There are things done right, but just as many things done wrong. Usually also watched to further the narrative and achieve completion. A generic structure is present with most entries here. Anything here or a 5 is usually the result of me trying to discover whether a popular or hyped series is for me. The result is largely lukewarm apart from a few good moments. Again, there may technically be more good than bad here. Series here have many redeeming qualities, but fail to be as enjoyable as higher rated entries. Even so, I am able to find at least
some enjoyment here. Guilty pleasure potential may also be present and will be tagged accordingly. Series that are more of a 6.5 will also be tagged. Entries here may have also had great potential that was destroyed by a number of factors, whether it's the conclusion or the character writing.
5/10: Average. Less enjoyable than a 6, but not by a lot. If asked to, I could sit down and find something to enjoy about a series within this group. There may still technically be more good than bad but it has a lot of room for improvement. The most accurate word for series here is "alright." Something that provides an indifferent experience at most. Enjoyment is to be found, but not nearly enough to score any higher than a 5. Anything lower than this score tends to be a waste of time unless you're specifically looking for subpar series. Series with this score may be barely better than a 4, perhaps negligibly.
4/10: Just bad. Tepid, bland, or otherwise nothing to write home about. Multiple areas that lack consistently. Poor pacing, flat characters, and an uninteresting world may be issues. Potentially formulaic structure that got boring. Other boring aspects. Even if other parts of series here are good, they do not make up for the shortcomings. This also applies to any other score under. Anything on my list that falls into this or lower, I simply watched to further a larger narrative. As a general rule, I dislike dropping anything to achieve an arbitrary goal of completion.
3/10: Disappointing. Series that fall into this are just as the name says. Perhaps they didn't live up to their potential (if an adaptation) or perhaps they didn't have much to begin with. Even more issues than a 4. Minimal to no enjoyment to be found.
1 - 2/10: Terrible. Unenjoyable. Anything this low, I would simply advise avoiding. Nothing could get me to rewatch or reconsider something that I have already put this low.
0/10: Horrible. Absolutely nothing for me here. Even my most hated works fall above this. I'm not even sure I can imagine a scenario in which anything I consume will go here, as literally everything would have to be bad.
Note: Series which I have a bit more to say about are tagged with comments on the far right of the list. These tagged comments are only viewable on the desktop version of the website as of now.
