10 = Exceptional
These are anime that appeal to my emotional core, personal philosophy or sense of aesthetics. Every anime I give a "10" is more than deserving of a yearly rewatch and live rent free in the back of my mind at all times. I have listed over 10 anime on here as a "10", however most of these ratings are "high 9s" rather than 10s. The only anime I consider to be "real 10s" are K-On! and Neon Genesis Evangelion (including End of Evangelion) and Lucky Star.
9 = Great
These are anime that near exceptional but didn't appeal to my tastes completely or have minor (but noticeable) flaws.
8 = Very Good
These are anime that are of high quality but fall short of being great due to one or two aspects that I found moderately objectionable.
7 = Good
These are quality shows that are "functional" but are lacking heart or memorability.
6 = Alright
These are shows that are competent and may have a few interesting ideas or an appealing character but have a major flaw or failing that hold it back from being more than alright.
5 = Average
These are shows that are competent but don't do anything special or are completely forgettable. This rating is also reserved for anime I have very mixed feelings on.
4 = Below Average
These shows may have some appeal, whether that be a strong first few episodes or an interesting character/concept, but fall incredibly short of being good.
3 = Bad
These are shows that are heavily flawed on a narrative and technical level but may have minor positive aspects that save it from being total garbage.
2 = Kuso
This rating is reserved for shows that do absolutely nothing for me but are forgettable rather than offensive.
1 = Offensive/Hilariously Bad
This rating is reserved for "so bad it's good" anime or something that is downright vile and offensive. An example of an anime that fits both of these criterion is Elfen Lied.
