Nah, there's no season 4. I was only kidding. Although, Alicization (SAO 3) has 2 main parts, Alicization and War of Underworld, which in total comprises 47 episodes. There are 3 seasons so far, and one movie, with another movie on its way for this autumn. I'd say there was never a better time to get started than now!
I would definitely go with what your current partner suggested. It's not essential that you watch season 4, but it was a lot of fun for me, personally :)
Hey, I know things must get pretty hectic for the Avatar ;)
SAO, huh? I'm just rewatching SAO III, Alicization at the moment, and I'm quite enjoying it. I think some within the MAL community are a tad too harsh on it. It's a nice blend of sci-fi, futurism, philosophy, action, emotion, romance, and cuteness.
In the future, you may experience a resurgence of your interest in anime. Sometimes we take it as a given that everyone on this site will be into anime always, and unconditionally, but things can change. You're still young and have a long road ahead of you. Who knows where that road will take you next?
The first season was a bit of a slow grower for me and I used to use it as a relaxing bedtime programme LOL. It was just so darn nice and at that time I didn't have any high expectations, or had heard any hype for it - it was just this new little thing I stumbled upon and I had no idea of just how popular it was!
Yeah, it's almost like they're the perfect gang of friends - Toph, Aang, Katara, and Sokka are like a match made in heaven and they all riff of each other so well! Yeah I've heard of this new live action thingy that Bryke (ATLA creators) have been working on, but I think animation leaves more to the imagination, especially with the vast, sprawling fantasy world and superhuman abilities.
Oh, I'm eagerly awaiting season 3 of The Dragon Prince btw. It just started to get so good as it progressed and it's another one that I had no expectations for before going into it!
When Toph first comes into it early on in season 2 - in the episode called The Blind Bandit, from that moment all the way until the end, the series is absolutely flawless. Iroh added a lot of pathos and an undercurrent of wisdom, and Mako put in a outstanding performance. May favourite characters are Katara, Aang, and Toph!
