The first misstep of Id:Invaded was immediately obvious for me : the visual aspect of the show (the character’s design, the use of colors, the directing, how it visually represents the human mind) is generic, dull and lifeless. Which is a big flaw, especially for a mystery show that put the focus on « visiting the human mind » : with a premise like that, you expect a story that would immediately immerse you with his striking visuals and chilling atmosphere and sadly, that’s not the case here with Id Invaded.
Worse, even the few good ideas are almost always directed and choregraphied in the
...
most uninteresting way possible.
Then, there are the first two episodes, who are pretty incompetent : the mystery-whodunnit aspect of the show is handled pretty badly, the characters aren’t compelling to follow and the « villain » of this first « arc » (who tries way too hard to sound creepy and smart) is laughable.
However, Id:Invaded gets better after that, showing some potential. The show starts to humanize and characterize the main characters (Narihisago, Hondoumachi and Fukuda) giving us a reason to care about them + exploring interesting themes and ideas : the danger of living too much in the past, questionning the line between good and evil, the idea of losing his mind in his own unconscious, the fact that only killers can go to the « virtual world », etc. Even the mystery and « creepy » aspects are improving, even giving us a somewhat memorable villain with « The Challenger » (whose concept is rightfully sinister).
But in the end, the show fail to capitalize on those elements and ends up failing to say anything on those matters. First, Id:Invaded fails on being a good detective show for the following reasons :
- In one hand, most mysteries or « twists » are too predictable to be enjoyable and it make the so-called « brilliants detectives » look like idiots for not figuring out the obvious. A perfect example is « Who’s John Walker » (the main antagonist). The characters (and by extension the serie) spend a decent amount of time trying to figure out his identity, only revealing it at the end of episode 11. Problem is, you already guessed it by episode 2, because it’s that obvious and in your face. And if you think the show does it purposefully, in order to surprise you in some way, the answer is no.
- On the other hand, a lot of clues (especially in the first half of the serie) that the characters find in order to resolve a mystery are off-screen. You simply can’t guess them and they magically appear in the story to make the characters seem smart when in reality they aren’t. The serie also love to have « clues » that show up for half a second on screen, only to resolve the mysery shortly after that so the viewer can’t have the time to solve anything.
- It’s only a few times that the serie give us some decent mysteries which is not enough. So Id Invaded is a mystery show who is actually pretty bad at creating mysteries and doing detective stories, especially if you compare it to good ones (for example, any story involving Hercule Poirot).
But what about the rest, like the characters ? Well sadly, the serie doesn’t fully exploit the potential of it’s cast. For example, the serie try to make us care about Narihisago’s family but never actually flesh them out : they are just your cliche « nice wife » and « nice daughter » (both in terms of personality and appearance) with no elements to make them stand out. Ultimately, they are cardboard characters so when the anime try to have you typical « something bad happen to them, time to put the sad music in order to make the audience cry », it not only didn’t work on me but it felt pretty manipulative. Which, again, is a big disapointment because on paper, it could work : having a character losing his family only to be afterwards SPOILERS stuck in a virtual world where they are still « alive » can give some amazing emotional scenes. Works like Magnetic Rose and « For the Man Who Has Everything », who have similar stories, do it perfectly.
The rest is pretty much the same : the main characters, despite showing some potentials at being interesting, ends up shallow and generic with almost little depth to them. Only Kaeru ends up being a somewhat memorable character despite being underutilized (again, the concept of her character is better than the execution).
As for the rest of the cast ? They are dull, generic and forgettable because nothing is made to make them stand out and worth remembering theirs names : they are only here for exposition-dump and finding clues off-screen to make the plot progress.
The interesting ideas and notions ends up also being wasted or underutilized to the point that at the end (the last three episodes), the show seem to have given up on trying to tell a good story and just goes full nonsense, especially with John Walker. Because despite being the main antagonist and the mastermind behind every horrible events that happened in the story, we know almost nothing about his motivations except for two-three meaningless lines that turns him into a pathetic moustache-twirling villain + he’s gets beaten incredibly easily in a rushed final battle. It’s almost like the show realize at the last minute how predictable the identity of John Walker was and decided to just throw him under the bus because of it. Now, you could argue that the serie did that on purpose, in order to show how miserable of a monster John Walker truly is (similar to what Death Note tried to do in his own ending) but it fail completely flat here because of how rushed and poorly written the ending is.
In the end, Id:Invaded reminded me of Psycho Pass (thankfully shorter) in that it tries and fails to say something of significance with the notions and ideas it introduced.

In short : skip this and go watch something else. Seriously.
In long : Rarely have I seen an anime that tries so hard and yet, never succeed, not even once.
Flip Flappers is an anime who wants to be cute, fun, creative, touching and a little bit sad. It tells the story of two young girls who each times, go live an adventure on an alternate and colorful world. With a synopsis like that, I should have love the show and yet, I ended up hating it.
The story ?While I only seen 4 episodes (I couldn’t stomach more, even skipped parts of the fourth one),
...
there is barely a story. Most of it, it's just Papika and Cocona in the real world, then on a alternate one, fight stuff, getting theirs asses kicked, getting power-ups, winning and goodbye. They try to tease bigger stuff but it’s not the main focus ; Flip Flappers wants to create « emotions », not complex storytelling. And that could (kinda) work except but here, it doesn’t for a large number of reasons.
Each of the world is supposed to be an « hommage » to something else (Ghibli movies, Dragon Ball Z, Gurren Lagann, Hokuto No Ken, video games in general, etc...) and you’re supposed to be excited in each one of them but nope, they are too rushed and poorly conceived to make you care. Blink once and you will miss one.
And our protagonists, the ones that are supposed to make those adventures fun ? They are trash. I only remember their name because they spend so much time screaming them (I swear half of the dialogues are just them repeating over and over « Papika !!! » and « Cocona!!! »).
Cocona is a bland, cold, bitchy tsundere. She complains every two seconds, doesn’t have the guts to really stand up for anything and always act or react in the most annoying way possible. She is also supposed to be smart but that’s only said once and never seen in action.
Papika isn’t much better : the energic and optimistic one who is basically a stalker. She stalks Cocona like crazy and try to force herserlf on Cocona by touching her or sniffing her without the other consent. And other than her obsession with Cocona ? Well she likes eating and sometimes she is super-strong and can beat up giants and sometimes you can take her out in one weak blow… Yeah that’s it. She has nothing for her except looking cute, trying to be cheerful but actually being creepy and wanting to be anywhere near Cocona.
And the rest of the cast you may gently ask, how are they ? Well, there are non-existent. Seriously.
Oh sorry no, I forgot the robot. The one who is a pervert who loooooves to molest underage girls…
Yes the show has a lot of awful, awful fan service who targets underaged girls. Want to see the two num-nuts turned for no reason into furries ? Want to see a naked Cocona taking a shower? Want to see Cocona bite a metaphorical giant penis for no reason? Want to see the robot ejaculate because a naked little girl who is into BDSM hit him ? Too bad, because it’s here ! So yeah, the « cute » and « cheerful » side that the show tries to push doesn’t work with shit like that. The worst is when they try to make you sad like « oh no, Papika is dead » and then, BAM, the show sexualize Cocona (who is 13 by the way) the next shot...
The dialogues is also completely abysmal, with characters being stuck in repeating the same three-four lines each episodes. So any attempt at being funny or poignant fails right away. Really, it's very rare to witness such poor dialogues.
And the action ? Bland because not only I’m not interested in the characters living them but also because they are just copying others better anime that I could be watching instead. Why watch a bland recreation of Dragon Ball Z when I can watch the original, who is infinitely much better ?
But what about the art ? Every reviews talk about how wonderful and pretty and beautiful and creative this anime is ! Surely it’s his saving grace right ? Not really. I mean, while the animation is decent and it’s clear that they worked on the D.A, it’s just decent/kinda good. It’s nothing mindblowing and there is nothing to make you care about it, unlike actual good anime. And it's funny to see that everytime there is a scene with Coco's Grandma, the budget drops by 60%.
In the end, Flip Flappers is an epic failure. I can't recommand it, especially since there is so much better anime you could be watching instead, ones that are actually fun, poignant and filled with great characters, like Little Witch Academia for example !
Also, the op and ending are quite good, which is kinda sad when you realize they are better than the actual show.

I really wanted to love Psychic Wars, I really did. I mean, this is a story where the main character turns into a super sayan to punch cancer IN THE FACE! And the MC is visually a weird mix between Clark Kent/Kenshiro and Ash from Evil Dead!
That's my kind of so bad it's good show! But sadly, Psychic Wars is too broken to be really enjoyable...
Now, I've seen my share of crap shows/movies, but outside of maybe Turkish Star Wars, I've rarely seen a story so badly told. Imagine this: for 15 seconds you see the MC talking with a friend, followed by 10 seconds
...
of the MC talking in the street with his girlfriend where he explained that he needs to do his mission alone, then another 20 seconds of the talk with his friend, then 5 seconds of flashback to a previous battle, followed by a scene where his girlfriend tells him that she will stays with him and then another flashback where some gods gaved him superpower and finally, the end of the talk with his friend.
Sounds confusing ? Well don't worry because that's how THE ENTIRE STORY of Psychic Wars is told !
Seriously, this OAV is almost unwatchable because the geniuses who made it broked every basic rules of storytelling. They cut scenes every two seconds, have zero sense of pacing, don't know how to established an atmosphere or to write a scene ! It honestly feels like this was made by aliens who never seen a movie in their life but tried to make one anyway.
The story and characters are actually so bad that you could honestly denies their existence. The characters have zero personality and the story is so full of plotholes that I'm surprised I can't see through it. For example, let me explains the plan of the bad guys (the demons): they are almost exterminated in the present so in order to survive, the demons from the past, who have a time machine, decide to time travel to conquer the present. Yes, this is the plot. Yes, you can reread their plan and yes, it makes zero sense.
Where does the time machine come from ? If they can control time, how did they lose in the first place? Hey, doesn't matter, because the MC kills them shortly after because those idiots decided to load their H.Q with conveniently placed explosives. Oh and yes, the fights and animation are terrible and ugly, so don't expect to have some good old cheesy fun action scenes.
The rest of the story is equally terrible, with a plot-twist so bad that even the MC spots the obvious plothole.
But if it's so bad, why I am giving it a 3 and not a 1? Simple.
One, there is nothing hateful about this OAV (unlike you SAO) and two, it does deserve a watch (despite how painful the experience can be) because it's bad in a pretty unique way.

You want to laugh and be immersed in a crazy story like never before? If you do, go watch Prison School right now (with a couple of close friends if you can) because you're gonna have a blast!
Really, the writing of this show is pretty good : yes, the serie throws a lot of stupid stuff in your face but in such an ingenious way that you're not only laughing because it's funny but also because you're invested in what's happening and to who. I felt for Gakuto everytime he acted like a "modern" samurai or when Kiyoshi put himself in danger in
...
order to save his friends or his chance to have a date.
Prison School knows that comedy need good characters so that the viewers can care and root for them. So I ended quickly cheering for my "bros", actually clapping and cheering many times when they managed to beat the odds.
The villains, while less memorable than the two main characters, works fine: they're "good" at being hated. All three of them are a different kind of evil and you can't wait for them to get their comeuppance.
Another strengh of the show is the animation and the voice acting: they're both great, giving life and the perfect energy to the characters and the jokes !
Also, while I usually hate fanservice, Prison School use it in such a ridiculous and smart way that it ends up being funny and not annoying. Honestly, I can't understand why Prison School is rated so low in MAL; it's easily one of the best anime in recent years !
Now, yes the show isn't perfect and does have some flaws: Jô, Andre are less interesting than the others goods guys; the second part of the oav was mediocre and there is one moment (the torture of Anzu) that is pretty disgusting and completely pointless. Also, if you don't like bromance or crude comedy oriented mainly for guys, you will probably not like this anime at all.
But despite those flaws, I still give it a 10 because I honestly had a great time watching this with one my friend !

Kakegurui xx : Electric Boogaloo
Remember the first season of Kakegurui ? Sure it was no masterpiece by any means but it was a fun, stupid, crazy anime full of over the top characters, Jabami Yumeko was fun and they turned Mary into an interesting secondary character. In short, and despite being a bit repetitive at times at having some disappointing moments, it was good. Basically, the complete opposite of season 2.
Why season 2 sucks so bad ?
- First, 90 % of the first eight episodes (yes I’m dropping this crap before the end, sorry) is just a rehash of the first season. Without the originality. Or the fun. Or
...
anything good. Even the crazy faces are boring here. Episode 5 and 6 are the carbon copies of episode 10 and 11 of the first season. So of course, this season gets quickly boring because you know how things are end from the start. No more suspense or surprise in this season 2. It’s also hurt the characters, especially Yumeko, because they are now devoted of personality : they only repeat the same old schtick over and over again. So they become annoying, fast.
- The gambling. Remember how exciting and risky it was in season 1 ? You could lose your dignity, become a slave for the rest of your life or even die. In this ? Well you can lose voices for an election… Yeah the stakes have never been lower. And special mention for the game of episode 7 and 8 who is not only boring (there is no stake or excitement) but is also the most incomprehensible game in all of Kakegurui. It’s almost like Jojo, except here they removed everything fun.
- Second season decide to spend an incredible amount of time on secondary characters (like Sumeragi or Idol-Lady), so much so that the main characters are sometimes barely there (especially poor Suzui who is now almost a background character). And those secondary characters ? They suck. BIG TIME. Idol-Lady was the most boring character in the first season already and still is in season 2. So of course she clearly deserve TWO FULL EPISODES solely dedicated on her. The same goes for Sumeragi : hateful and boring, get’s two episodes to have a romance with her slave. Why, oh why on Earth are they doing this ? Those characters have nothing interesting, are neither funny or likeable so why spending so much time with them ? Even Table-Kun from Code Geass is a more compelling character than those clowns ! But Kirari, the main antagonist of this season ? You see her for a total of not even 5 minutes in 8 episodes ! SHE IS BARELY THERE. And of course, they decided to throw at least 10 new characters in this season, each more boring than the other and are just here to be red-shirt (except for one who is maybe gonna get an arc. Maybe).
- So naturally, the plot never move or progress in any shape or form. Like 99 % of this second season is filler. In this 2h40m I spent watching this, only what, 10 minutes were actually relevant ? Fantastic work.
- And the icing on this ugly cake, the morals. The show tries to have some kind of moral is some episodes which is laughable : when you’re as stupid and badly written as this season, you don’t get to try that.
So in short, skip this season. This season is a complete waste of time. You want gambling ? Watch episode 34 or 35 of Jojo: Stardust Crusaders (or Kaji because apparently it’s pretty good). Want stupid crazy stuff with fanservice ? Watch Prison School. There is so much other shows that deserve your attention. Kakegurui XX just isn’t one of them.

The reason I decided to watch Big Order is because of it’s reputation : the insanity and sheer stupidity of the show is pretty well-know and I wanted to see if it was earned. Spoilers, it is.
Now, if you only watch the first episode, you’re probably gonna think it’s just another bland, « edgy » poorly written anime like many other anime and you would be so wrong. The true nature of Big Order only shows his ugly head after the first episode and after that, it never tries to hide it again. This show has one of the most nonsensical story I have
...
ever witness with a constant need to contradict itself every two seconds with the dumbest thing ever, to the point that I believe that Big Order is a parody. It has to be. No show can be that stupid and not doing it on purpose.
Let’s start by talking about Eiji, the main character who represents very well the experience that is Big Order. First, he is seriously the real vilain of the story to the point where he actually fights to destroy a world where everyone could be happy. And don’t get your hopes up people, the serie and the rest of the cast still treat him like a hero, even if he is the complete opposite of it. But what make Eiji really special it’s how he literally makes no sense at all as a character : he is, at the same time, a wannabe rapist, shy in love, a guy who want to save the world, a guy who don’t care about he world, an idiot who don’t understand anything, a smart guy who understand everything, a nice guy who saves people, an asshole who tortures people, someone who wants to protect his sister, someone who has sex with his sister (yes), someone who wants to create a perfect world for his sister except when he has the actual opportunity to do it… And no I am not making any of this stuff up, he really is all over the place and make no sense at all, like the overall crapfest that is BO.
Also he is one of the hateful MC I have seen in while : not only he is a r*apist (and no one cares about it of course) but he screams « Senna » at least 20 times per episode in the most irritating way possible, to the point that even Snow from FF XIII would ask him to shut it. You can stab him, cut his arms or legs, Eiji will still be screaming « Senna » over and over... And poor Morita who had to voice such an awful character… And by the way, even his powers don’t make sense : sometimes he is overpowered and sometimes he isn’t. No explanation is EVER given of course because that’s how Big Order rule : exit logic, only insanity and stupidity are needed here.
Really, the show is all over the place, makes no sense in the slightest and love to forgot things it just introduce. For example, out of nowhere, we have actual gods who show up but don’t worry our Eiji doesn’t even care about them (he actually ignore them even if they are the one who can actually save his sister) and then 5 minutes after, the gods disappears completely from the story with no explanation. Classic Big Order ! Another example ? Well, the show introduce Rei Ayan- I mean Iyo, a girl with a red ribbon. Eiji touchs her ribbon and she become instantly pregnant : she cries but Eiji promise that he will take responsability. Five minutes after, Iyo is gonna give birth to the baby except after that, the plot completely forgot about the existence of the said baby. Iyo is suddenly no more pregnant anymore and except for three throwaway lines that don’t explain ANYTHING, the baby like the gods disappears completely from the story. Again, I’m not making any of this stuff up.
What about the rest of the cast I hear you ask? Hahahahaha, fools ! If I can give Big Order one thing is that the show is consistent : the « cast » is as bad as the rest of the show.
We have Rin, who is basically a parody of Yuno from Mirrai Nikki. She has a decent backstory but the story take a massive dump on her everytime it can : she gets her ass kicked constantly and is one of the biggest idiot of the show which is an statement someone cannot make lightly. She wants to kill the man responsible for the death of her parents except when she doesn’t want or forgets about it. Her relationship with Eiji ? Simple my friend : She hates him because she thinks he killed her parents but suddenly she actually likes him now for no reason but no back to hating him, no she is loving him again… Again no explanation for this behavior.
Then, we have Senna, the sister of Eiji. While they are not blood related, she is, like her BIG BRO, an awful character. She is a naive girl, except when she is evil but sometimes she is nice… You know the drill by now, she also doesn’t make a lick of sense.
The show also introduce the Ten, a group of powerful orders (people with powers) and they seem to be very important for the plot. Except they aren’t. Only Iyo, Rin and White Hair matters. We kinda get to know three others, Glasses Girl, Rip-Komamura-Off and Fran but they barely do anything for the plot which is kinda sad since Fran is the only character of the all show who seem to be a decent guy. The rest I hear you ask ? Well, nothing. While two of them have interesting design, I can’t even call them characters. They will show up at random, at best throw two or three meaningless lines that changes nothing and that’s it. It’s a shame because I really wanted to see more of « Big Wood » and sadly, he doesn’t even speak. And Big Order loves do that by the way : they introduce many, MANY characters but refuse to do anything with them and ultimately, forget about them completely. Some were clearly created for the BIG fan service moment in episode 5 (almost 10 minutes devoted to a woman harrassing others women in a bath and yes, it's awful) but the others ? I don’t know. They created at least 15 characters who have no purpose, probably for the hell of it.
Again, Big Ordeaaaah is a parody. It has to be. Not just because I refuse to live in a world where this shitshow was made legit but also because I quickly checked the manga. And yes, the manga seem to be way less awful : Eiji is no more a wannabe rapist and there is no incest-pedo relationship with his sister. Now, I haven’t read that much and yes, the manga doesn’t seem to be very good but it seems to try in telling a coherent story unlike the anime.
So my guess is that the anime was made terrible on purpose for some reason. And that’s why I’m giving a 5 : because when you accept that Big Order is a Big Joke, it’s kinda fun. I actually laugh a couple of time while watching it (the ending of episode 2 was fantastic) and it’s almost a « so bad it’s good» anime.. It’s a trainwreck that deserve a watch if you’re into that kind of stuff : it has to be seen in order (hahaha) to be believed. However, unlike masterpieces like Samurai Cop or Miami Connection, Big Order is still annoying a lot of the time because of how unlikeable the leads are.
Ah yes , I almost forgot to tell, there is barely any fight scenes in this anime and all of them are mediocre anyway (because of poor animation). Some characters have interesting powers but of course, they barely use it at all.
If I had to end on a positive note, I will say that the OST is good, even if they love to place some songs at inappropriate times because of course they do, that’s the way of Big Order.

Well that was a decent fun watch.
Honoo to Tenkousei is a short serie who is both an homage and a parody to classic shōnen like Saint Seiya or other anime from the eighties.
Just from the opening, you can feel the love they put into this work: everything in those two episodes like the soundtrack, the characters design, the animation and the overall atmosphere are all a love-letter to those anime. And of course, they use every cliche in the book like the nonsensical romance, super attacks, the speaker for the fight, the rival who cheats, etc...
But what make this show works is that
...
they know how and when to use their jokes: they don't overwhelm you with jokes every two seconds (like many bad "spoof" movies) which is a good thing. They know when to have jokes and when to have some so called "serious" moments; to the point that I was, for a few moment, legitimately into the story. I even was rooting for the main character at some point which is impressive since he is a massive idiot. I actually wish we had more episodes to see the other vilains the opening showed us and to spend more time with the serie...
Really it's the combination between being at both a parody and an homage that makes Honoo to Tenkousei work. It's not the best serie ever made, sure, but it's a fun watch and everyone should give it a shot!

Psycho Pass tries really hard to be a smart, dark show who will impress his viewers by how smart it is. Sadly, it fails.
Let’s get the good out of the way:
1. The two openings are pretty memorable, especially the first one.
2. The animation and the directing are competent, above your average show : you can tell that efforts and talents were put into it.
3. Psycho Pass also has an interesting premise and ideas, plus some very "atmospheric" first episodes
that will catch your attention and make you want to see more.
But unfortunately, the rest is a mess.
First, take a good look at the secondary characters
...
and then forget all about them. Really. They are all pointless, bland, one-note characters. Now, I have seen way worse in other shows/movies (none of them are horribly written), but still, the show gives me no reason to care about them or to even bother remembering any of there names.
Psycho Pass, for his first season, focused only on three actual characters : Kougami the real protagonist, Shougo the main bad guy and Akane the pointless other protagonist.
Akane is easily the worst character of the entire show because of how infuriating and pointless she is. Despite the fact that she has a lot of scenes, she never do do much, always leaving Kougami to do all the real work. Akane is in fact so pointless that honestly, the show could have cut her character from the story and no one would have care or notice.
Her character arc is this : she starts as a rookie who is naive and "weak" but is supposed to grow up half way trough the show, in order to became a « badass ». On paper, it could be interesting but in execution, it doesn’t work at all. Without spoiling too much, Akane evolves into a massive hyprocrite and no one even dares to point that out.
She sides with one of the bad guys, defends the broken logic of « killing is always wrong » no matter the situation and the show makes almost no effort into defending her point of view (you know, unlike good shows like Trigun with Vash.). Now it could be interesting if the show choose to portray her as what she actually is : a weak-minded, hypocrite idiot who is easily manipulated. Or maybe have others characters confront her in order to give us something that is worth thinking over.
But no. Instead the show portrays her like she is a hero, asking us to like and care about her for reason.
Then you have the main bad guy, Shougo « I’m trying really hard to be Light Yagami » Makishima. Seriously, it’s both painful and hilarious how hard he tries and fails to be Light. Having your villain drinking wine, playing the piano, having everyone saying how smart he is or having him quoting stuff doesn’t make him smart. You have to actually show his cleverness in order to make us believe that he is a formidable threat but sadly, it never happens.
The only reason Shougo succeed at anything is because the story sides with him (most of the time)
but it never feels natural or logical, unlike with Light Yagami.
Shouga is in the end a bland vilain, as bland as his character design (which is something that I can say for every character in this show, they all look generic). The only good thing about him is how hard the show tries, relentlessly, to sell him as a major threat : it's actually pretty amusing at times. It never works but hot damn, the show keeps trying.
And finally, Kougami : the « best » of the trio but that’s not saying much. He moves the plot forward and actually has the right to do things that affect the story but outside of that, he really isn’t very interesting : just the deja-vu anti-hero cop who wants revenge. There is nothing more to him than that trope, nothing that help differentiate Kougami and make him worth remembering.
Psycho Pass is also a show that tries to ask important questions about good and evil, what justice really is, the nature of mankind but it doesn't actually say anything about those topics: it just mention them through mediocre characters, struggling and failing to say something of significance.
In conclusion, while I don’t hate Psycho Pass, I think it fail on achieving what it wanted, prefering to look deep and complex instead of actually being it.
