Devasabu,

Haha, that's awesome what the MC does!! And thank you for referencing me to the English translated version!

As for action anime, I was going to suggest Overlord, but you already saw it. I would also suggest Samurai Champloo - with this one, you are already given the plot - straightforward: A girl is looking for a man that smells like sunflowers, and on her journey she meets two samurai. "Champloo," meaning "mixed up" ~~ so a group of samurai mixed up into this epic journey to find a man who smells like sunflowers.

Definitely love the action in that series -- and at the same time there are dialogue moments. So... I would say, if you want a mix of dialogue scenes and action, with a mix of Hip Hop music, check out Samurai Champloo! One of my favorite series to be honest.

If you want a hilarious, action series, check out One Punch Man! You probably already watched it or heard of it before, but check it out for the crazy action scenes! Plot plays out in arcs, so not much to think about. Fairly straightforward plot: bald man who is physically strong and virtually unbeatable aspires to be part of the hero society... but he does not get the recognition he deserves!

Looking at your "plant to watch" list, I would highly suggest Made in Abyss. Really amazing action, story is beautiful and simple [yet leaves you curious], and there are moments that made me hold my breath. A definite must watch -- and its only 13 episodes.

Let me know how your trip goes Devasabu!

Devasabu,

Oh, no need to apologize!!!! I really understand where you are coming from -- same here, exams are coming around the corner and I've been super busy too! "Everyone Else Is A Returnee" sounds absolutely hilarious and interesting! I will check it out!!! Is there an English translation of it? Seems like the MC is making a statement on the obvious things that happen, or like the cliches and whatnot!

And in regards to going abroad, definitely take the time to discover and get the full experience of learning!! I look forward to hearing from you after your trip!

As for writing a lot, I understand! Same here, I just love to write a lot -- but try not to write too much if you know what I mean!

Okay Devasabu, have a safe trip and let me know how it goes!!!!!

Sorry for the late answer, just had alot of exams lately^^ No the anime is really far behind I think it only covered like Volume 6 from 25? Well just because was one of my fav shows when it aired(Maybe I just have low standards xD)
I've never heard of that manga but sounds interesting, maybe it would be good if I need a new clothing style xD

Devasabu,

Oh, no worries at all for the late reply! Don't sweat it!

I see what you mean with Convenience Store Boyfriends - definitely refreshing to see how the girl has trouble loving/opening up to the guy, rather than the guy with troubled past. And yeah, hahaha the guys kinda do look like hentai MCs!

I definitely agree with Kotoura-san's comedy, really hilarious how she hears the male MC's perverted thoughts! And also I really love the closure between the female MC and her mother... it was not like a direct direct apology from the mother... but it was very subtle with the breakfast she made the next morning. Additionally, I love the moment where the girl asks the boy to verbally say out loud that he likes her (instead of just reading his mind). Overall love the theme of "being accepted for who you are".

I get what you mean about the slow drama pace of anime - definitely draws attention to manga where you can go at your own pace + there are extra details in the manga compared to the anime. And yeah, Hadi-Girl was innocent, but had its cute moments. Ah, yes, it kind of does give off an ecchi feeling now you mention it!

I haven't read Ageha 100%, but the premise sounds interesting! As for Usagi Drop, I began reading from the chapter that left off after the end of the anime (I'm sorry!! I have not fully completed Usagi Drop, but got the shortened first half of the story from the anime).

Please let me know what you think about Usagi Drop! I definitely have a few things to say about it's story... but only after you've read all of it!

As for horror and tragedy, I aspire to read more horror-driven stories, I haven't felt scared reading manga yet, so I look forward to that! As for tragedy, I lean more towards happy endings and outcomes, but if there is a tragedy that hold positive meaning (as ironic as that sounds, yes, I have read a tragic manga that gives off positivity by providing a sense of hope and upbringing).

Overall, the more realistic a story is the better chance of me enjoying it. (e.i. such as stories that do not have unnecessary drama, too much fan-service, overly oblivious/absent minded characters, and "beating around the bush throughout the whole story") Of course, I cannot have EVERYTHING I want in a series, so I try my best to approach series with an open mind!

-Ken R.

P.S. Feel free to write short messages, I don't mind at all! I just tend to write a lot, I'm sorry.

Devasabu,

Awesome, thanks for taking the time to talk!

And haha, yeah, no worries on Kids on the Slope (personally the main reason I watched it was because it was directed by Shinchiro Watanabe, same director as Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Space Dandy, etc...), and as for Cowboy Bebop, there is actual romance but its subtle. There is not exactly the whole "lovey dovey" scenes - and not really any "blush, red cheeks" moments ~~ overall, the romance is handled quite well and straightforward. I will say this though, no happy endings to the romantic relationships, but rather it's more so on the conclusion of "moving on". There is also focus on the idea of "family" and "a place to go home to" -- not really romance related, but it does have a sense of bonding and camaraderie that I absolutely adored!

I definitely love the SoL/Romance manga and anime! The shows (I assume you mean anime) I watch vary - but I usually watch romance, comedy, and action anime! In regards to romance, I definitely favor series that have little drama - hence why I love SoL romance with a simple plot... or sometimes no plot at all! I do not like ongoing love triangles, super super super slow romantic development (like where the main couple are just about to progress in their relationship, only to be "reset" by something dumb [friend bursting into room, one of them is distracted by something, here comes a new threat to their relationship, etc...]). And most especially, I do not like "beating around the bush"! But if I do come across them, it's all good, I'll stick it out!

To give some anime examples of what I have watched before and definitely enjoyed:

  • Pat Labor (TV series) - no romance, but super funny police, mecha anime! Focus is on camaraderie as being part of a team/same section!

  • Ore Monogatari!!(My Love Story!!) - big, yakuza looking guy (who is really thoughtful and nice), gets with a cute and respectful girl. Little to no drama, and they get together early on in the series. Focus is on their development as a couple!

  • Shoya - Virgin Night - a hentai, but do not get turned off by the genre! It is a very pure story (very unusual for a hentai) that explores the sexual tension between a long time couple... who have never had vaginal sex before! I definitely LOVE this OVA because of its selection of shots that drives tension, slow yet steady pace, cautious tone, and simple (not overly done) moments during certain scenes.

  • Convenience Store Boy Friends - a nice SoL romance that has little to no unnecessary drama! There are two couples: one main and one side couple. They go through their struggles, but progress positively through them, which is always nice to see! The only downfall to this anime is its animation style -- don't want to spoil it for you, but you will DEFINITELY notice it (hence why I believe many people rated it low).

  • Made in Abyss - adventure, with a mysterious plot! Love the action here, classic shonen-style adventure story with some bloody and intense moments! Definitely kept me at the edge of my seat!

As for manga, I definitely love reading all types, but generally I've been reading a lot of romance manga:

  • Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki - this is my personal favorite! I love how the main couple's relationship progresses. It's very innocent, yet mundane take on romance - the reader is brought back in time to the "more simpler times" of our childhood. At first this series may seem to take an ecchi route, but that is just a few moments and is not super exaggerated - and I mean isn't that part of growing up, the natural occurrence of sexual curiosity? Each panel drives towards the feeling of creating a storyboard - where some panels focus on mundane shots, such as a flower pot, the trees, a reflection from a puddle of water, etc.

  • Love Riron - love the ending to this manga, a really nice , happy ending. The idea of a "love doctor" was extremely funny, and some of the tactics made sense! Haha, overall a really good read and I definitely enjoyed it!

  • Onanie Master Kurosawa - do not let the premise discourage you from reading! This story focuses on the character's psyche and their struggle to overcome personal barriers. The ending was quite shocking, but very cute and awesome. Love reading this story!

  • Homunculus - by far one of the more darker stories that I have read. Absolutely enjoyed this manga and its take on perception and life. There seemed to be some philosophical questions and remarks revolving seeing the "truth" of people. And the art was absolutely stunning - not for those who are easily squeamish.

  • Hajimete Datteba - a solid, little-to-no drama, SoL romance story that has multiple couples - a very standard high school romance story! Also involves the couple's first time having sex.

As for you, what anime and manga do you normally like - and what series are you keeping up with as of now?

Thanks for writing!

-Ken R.

Oh, I've read Natsu no..... one a bit. I dropped it when they make out or something iirc. I was still new to mangas and wasn't very comfortable with mature content. Thank God I dropped it, seems like a bittersweet one.

Following up on your post "Anime name that is intriguing/tells a story of its own", definitely Kids On The Slope has that heavy drama - moments that made me pull my hair out ~ sorry to add to the discouragement!

But I would still recommend it simply for it's awesome jazz moments! So many really awesome scenes that make my head bob up and down - same with my tapping feet!

I can say the same for the musical score in Cowboy Bebop - music definitely made me excited and pumped up ~~ and moments that made me tear up and think about the deeper meaning of life. And to clarify: Cowboy Bebop is not heavy on romantic drama - well, to my memory, I felt that the overall drama was minuscule and not the main focus of the story - but rather the underlying drive to the premise that significantly progresses the story. But what attracted me to Cowboy Bebop was it's slice-of-life, episodic nature that, when reviewed closely, teaches us a lesson at the end of every session (asides the 2 or 3 "filler"/gag/fun episodes).

Other than that, feel free to discuss anything with me, would love to converse!

Still, they should have been wiser and ended it soon. I think that Horimiya could have ended by the 40 some episode or near the Christmas chapter.
When they start milking a show it's ruined. Take Tonari was kashiwaga San for an example, they both confess by the 20th episode and the rest 60 were filters. Even, the romance was dull bw the mcs in front of the side ones. There are many others😣
K I'll be waiting.
Naman_Gupta Apr 13, 5:20 AM
I think the plot if there was any ended when they revealed that they are dating. It became a complete comedy from there on with nothing deep to offer.
Could you recommend me some good Romance mangas with male mc and less drama(love triangle),comedy.
Do check my list coz I'm skimming through quite a few sites searching for some that suits my taste and it'll save you time recommending.
Naman_Gupta Apr 13, 1:44 AM
Are you up-to-date with Horimiya??How's it later?
I dropped it after he cuts his hair and stuff....
I think after that they're just dragging the series with Sol, forced girl introduction, etc.

Wow that's alot of anime you are watching at the moment xD I always try to watch 1 and the current season at one time :D

Have you seen Just Because? It's really good for an romance anime ^^
Yeah I know many people who dont like attack on titan but it has alot drama and stuff that I like. Seven deadly sins is great :D I would recommend you Saiki kusuo no psi nan(it's about a extremly op guy, but it's a comedy anime and maybe the funniest ever) and highschool dxd is also quite good, especially the battles(dont mind the fanservice xD)

I've seen Prince of Stride and really liked it, sadly it was abit short :/ Also Major and Eyeshield 21 are really good( but they have alot of eps)
