This is my first time ever writing a review, so here goes...
This is not your typical anime- or I mean it is (it's practically entirely tropes), but you shouldn't look at it like you would a typical anime, or else you're gonna absolutely hate it.
Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni is, as the name suggests, an "another world" anime. Take that genre, and think of every stereotype and trope imaginable. Throw them all together, and you get this show.
Dude dies, God feels bad, sends him to another world, he gets a better life than before, he gets a harem, he's op as hell, everything
...
is as convenient as can be, the list goes on...
Seems like pure garbage.
But that is not where the value of this anime lies. The reason I'm giving it a 7 overall is because it's refreshing.
Now hear me out: it's not revolutionary, it's not beautiful, it's not emotional- in fact, it feels very clunky, has odd pacing every now and then, and doesn't offer much.
But I'll be damned, this show has me smiling way more often than some of your other run-of-the-mill shows in it's genre.
Why? Because it's so bad it's good.
This show is like eye bleach to me.
After watching tons and tons of the same stories/genres spun different ways, you can get tired out. This show is one where I can just sit back and relax. I already know everything that's going to happen, and I laugh and smile because it's exactly what I expect it to be, and because it's so dumb.
Maybe I'm just going crazy from all the time I spend watching anime.
Watching this anime helps me appreciate the other stuff I watch, because it almost in a sense helps me reset, seeing as I'm so desensitized to all the uniqueness out there nowadays.
Trust me, this anime is no life-changer, and it is most definitely not for everyone.
But if you're like me, and just need a little break from the anime-watching grind, and need something "other-worldly" (sorry, I had to) to have a good laugh... then watch Konosuba, because it's actually good.
But again, if you're like me, and you've already seen it all, then yes, you can watch this, and appreciate it just like I do, appreciate it in all it's trope-y glory.
It seriously is an anime I shouldn't like, but something in my brain and all the anime I've watched makes me enjoy it. I'm sure there's a few of you out there who will agree... emphasis on "few".
