First review ever, so it might be chaotic sometimes , sorry :D
Honestly, what made me interested in the show was that viral scene where Fena gets reunited with Yukimaru. After looking up the premise of the anime I was already hooked. Then the "The protagonist is the chosen one, just deal with it" happened and it al went down for me.
Spoiler alert.
I was going to give it a generous 7-8 cuz the music and the artsyle and the animation was my taste but the last two episodes totally made me forget about those.
What was that ending?? Why should I feel bad for Fena when
...
that choice she had to make was totally random, why should I feel bad for her and Yukimaru when that separation was not even that serious, and after the "you are the random chosen one"plot it was pretty predictable. I wasn't expecting it to outsmart my expectations but by the end of the show I had a feeling that I'm watching another anime not the one I originally started with and that the plot got lost somewhere.
By the way , where was the legendary Kei the whole time?? After his introduction I expected a big conflict between crew, between brothers between Yukimaru and Shitan, it would have been waay better to develop that storyline. Instead of that Kei appears for 5 seconds in the end and we will never see the legendary fight bitween him and Yukimaru which most of us probably expected.
I wish Fena wasn't so under developed, in the first episode where she showed her "escape" plan I was expecting a strong character who just needs some training and can take care of herself and save others too. But no,she was always the damsel in distress, even after we had a whole "training" sequence she didnt even try to use a sword to at least defend herself. She was only interesting for me when other characters completed her. And the side charaters had more charisma than the protagonist.
For a second I had "Avatar the last aibender" flashbacks because of the whole "traveling with the team, getting followed by bad people etc." and it made me excited, but now I shouldn't even mention the sacred name of the ATLA here.
At the beginning I geniunely got hooked by the promising characters the misterious story and the potencial romance story which is my guilty pleasure. But if it wasnt for my curiosity and hope and respect for the animators and the music (it's not everyones cup of tea, I like it tho) I would give it 4 out of 10.
To finish it with some hope and positivitiy, I think that everyone who puts the work into creating a story ,even if its not the best, deserves recognition, I cant say I didnt have fun at all while watching it, I had moments it made me giggle a bit, or when I was amazed by the animation (the scene with Abels past was very very nice btw) or Yukimaru (sorry not sorry). I think it could be saved with a season two and if there will be I will probably watch it.
