Don't worry about trying to reply quickly LOL. It's understood that there is no guarantee for when comments get replied to or if they even get replied to at all. We all have our own lives and circumstances. Though I do try to reply in a timely fashion when I can.

I will apologize for not replying to your detailed post with anything nearly as long. Like I said, I'm just too tired of the topic LOL.

I'd like to simply thank you for providing even more context and for referencing a review which touched on similar concerns. I do really appreciate all the effort you've put in to get across how you feel and how you understand the work.

As for other topics, I was thinking something like talking about Code Geass or Spice and Wolf (season 1) as both were somewhat recent watches for me and are in your favorites. Better yet, you could ask about anime that I've seen that you're interested in, which would give me an opportunity to return the favor and type up some thoughtful posts about stuff I like!

Interesting. So even the manga doesn't have her backstory fully developed?

If the anime had shown that her mental state was truly unstable and messed up before she made her choice, I probably wouldn't have been bothered. Instead, she seems rational throughout the entirety of the episode, which doesn't give her decision to sell herself into slavery the gravitas that it deserves. Ultimately, I'm probably not ever going to agree with how the author handled this setup, but I can forgive them at least.

I'm honestly pretty tired of this topic at this point lol, would you be interested in chatting about other anime or anything else?

Wow, thanks again for the detailed responses!

Yeah I could tell that you were having fun writing that post. That's the kind of discussion I always hope for, and it's so rewarding when you're able to talk to others who feel the same way. It doesn't seem that people were particularly inspired by my post, but I hope that they at least get to read yours and from there, do some thinking of their own beyond their snap-reaction anger.

One thing that I failed to make fully clear is that my issue isn't just with their relationship, it's the setup to it. Why does Chise need to sell herself into slavery, give up her freedom in order to be saved? For instance, the author could've made it so that Chise ran away from home or was simply doing her best and going about her life when she meets Elias by chance. Even if it's to make a point about just how bad her life is, it seems misguided to use slavery in this context. It seems to say that if girls are having a bad time, they should give up their freedom and offer themselves to someone else, specifically a strong man. If you get lucky, you end up in a mystical world and a wonderful (sic) romance with an Elias!

That's probably not what the author wanted to say, but you can see how it's implied, right?

Thank you for your response in the thread!

I was fully prepared for the typical MAL shitshow, but by the same token, seeing such a detailed and thoughful post is a very welcome surprise.
