Mikoto is my least favorite character in K, but I simply cannot forgive anyone who dismisses him as a character who" seems ruthless and acts almost without emotion".
I can write a whole novel on Suoh Mikoto because of his complexity.
He is the character with most contradictions inside. His fire is for the sake of protection and yet he can only do so by burning himself up because he doesn't know how to it in any other way except through self-sacrifice. You can say he has too much pride but too little confidence in himself at the same time.
Mikoto has a dying wish since the beginning. He did not plan out that tragedy out of revenge. He wants to redeem himself more than anything. He lost and couldn't protect what's important to him, so he doesn't want to have the same regret again. However, he was not able to live with his regret, so he couldn't move forward.
He is a person who is stuck in the past and no longer reaching out for the future himself. But at the same time, he wants those who follow him to have a future, so he creates future where he won't exist anymore.
Mikoto is ruthless on the outside, only to hide his vulnerability on the inside. He acts without emotions because he had no more emotions except regret to express. A person who can no longer change and move forward will act like Mikoto does.
I dislike him exactly because he has given up on himself.
I hope you look more into the characters of K because their psychologies are not simple at all.
