 What a relief it would be if my breathing and heart just stopped and my consciousness disappeared along with the pain. - And that was when and where I met Takaki Tohno. I hung my head lower and lower. And then... A whispered voice entered my ears. "You are going to be okay."  "A cherry petal falls at that speed. They say it's five centimeters per second." These words meant that I felt so natural when we were together. That I always wanted to be with him. I hoped we could, very gradually, get closer over time. At the speed of a falling cherry petal. Slowly, but surely. I wished that we would naturally become one. On that day, I think my existence was the most blessed of all, enveloped in the most beautiful thing in the world. He is loved. By Akari - they are soulmates but not meant for each other. A magic but purely painful love story. By Kanae - it is an unrequited love since Takaki hesitates to give her a chance, although deep inside he knows that she is the one girl of his dreams. Kanae spends 5 years of having a crush on Takaki. 5 years which slowly crush her heart. By Risa - whom he causes pain in their relationship of 3 years by not giving her the love and certainty she deserves. He leaves her in despair. But it is not one of the girls he hurts the most. He uncounsciously hurts himself indefinitely. All the chances that he misses and all the relationships that he loses - after becoming an adult he realizes at a single blow what he lost in life. In the end, all that remains for him to do is to reminisce about his past, his youth, about all the blissful moments that once have been. This moment of reminiscence is a moment of pain. Finally - but too late - he moves on from his past. He lifts his head and walks into his new future which is uncertain but also full of hope. Thank you so much for your awesome Secret Santa manga recommendations!
So far I've only been through Machida-kun and it was everything you said it would be. The transition from year to year was quite a tough time for me personally for a multitude of reasons, so Machida's optimism and heartfelt life-affirming messages really helped me through that! It was the right manga at the right time and I don't think I'll forget it any time soon! Thank you!
Oh, and of course I'm familiar with One Piece! I'm watching the anime, but I'm way behind! I've only just finished the Thriller Bark arc (my favourite so far, Brook is such a great character!)
